What the Hail (Hail Raisers Series #4) by Lani Lynn Vale

He's wanted her since he repossessed her car and made her cry.

Baylor Hail knew two things. One, he hated crying females. Two, it was even worse when he was the one to make that female cry.

He never meant to do anything but his job, but when one thing leads to another, suddenly all he can think about is the broken woman whose car he towed.

She's wanted him since he patted her back and told her it was okay to cry even though she knew he was lying.
Nothing ever goes right for Lark.

Not when she got married. Not when she tried to leave her abusive husband, and not when she arrived in a new town with a fresh, clean slate.

That clean slate came courtesy of a secret organization that specializes in helping abused women find a way out. They set her up with a whole new life. It just turns out that it happened to be right smack dab in the middle of another woman's old one.

That woman also happens to be down on her luck, something that Lark learns the hard way when on her first day there, her car is towed by a handsome stranger.

It's been two years since she's felt any kind of sexual attraction toward a man, and she reacts badly. We're talking full-on, hysterical breakdown as he loads her car onto his tow truck while looking at her like she's lost it.

Maybe being crazy isn't all that bad.

The next thing she knows, she's spending time with the sexy stranger and life couldn't be better--even though she still doesn't have a car.

She thinks she's in the clear, that she's got it all figured out... well, that is until her ex-husband finds her again.

Now the ball is in her sexy stranger's court as he decides whether or not her kind of crazy is worth getting killed over.

Turns out, for Baylor Hail, maybe it is.

I liked this book more than I was expecting to. Though the events of this novel seem like coincidence after miraculously dangerous events on repeat. Overall, it was a straightforward story with nods to past and future storylines in this series. Baylor was protective and sweet but had a mean side when dealing with infuriating situations that required a heavier hand. Though the cover threw me off and I still haven't gotten over it. The way he's described doesn't reflect in the eyes of the cover model, in my opinion. It was one of the reasons why it took me so long to read this novel. Lark's situation broke my heart. She was set up from the beginning to fail and not have a chance at an actual life without her knowledge. It hurts to know that her situation isn't uncommon around the world and that not everybody finds help in time. I liked Lark's personality. She's introverted and isn't the most easygoing person you'll meet, but she'll help friends in any way she can even though she may not be open about how she feels most of the time. This was a good novel! It started off slow and built up into something worthwhile. I was expecting a different kind of conclusion (based on a few other novels I've read by this author), but I was pleasantly surprised with this ending. Favorite Quotes: "I learned to protect myself the only way I knew how. By walking away." "I love sarcasm. It's like punching people in the face with your words." "You can't blame yourself for other peoples sins [...]. I've tried. It doesn't turn out well."

What can I say about What the Hail? This is one very fast-paced love story, for sure!! When two sets of eyes connect, the attraction is undeniable! Baylor is a man who knows what he wants in life. A tow truck driver, who repossesses vehicles, no matter the situation. You don’t pay your car note? Too bad, so sad. But the day that he picked up Lark’s was the day that his life changed. Baylor didn’t feel sorry at first, but she just kept appearing. Why was she always around and why did trouble always seem to find her? Lark was drop dead gorgeous and his little man downstairs even knew it. Before long, there wasn’t a thing he wouldn’t do to protect her. Lark was running. She was running from her POS cop ex-husband. Lark was careful not to slip up, so that she wouldn't be found. Unfortunately, her “cover man” had it out for her. It didn’t matter what she did, Harold made sure to make her pay for it. The wrong thing to do was to cross him, but Lark and Baylor had enough. Was that the wrong thing to do?? The chemistry between these two is insurmountable. It’s like their parts know they fit together. Their hearts beat in tune. What the Hail shows us that when you find your soul mate, it doesn’t matter how long it’s been. You just know it’s right! As always, Lani’s writing is on point and pulls at our heart strings. Another top 2017 read!!

Lark finds help through an organization to leave her abusive husband and assume another identity. An assumed life that already has turmoil broiling in it. You can't help but feel for Lark she just can't seem to get a break. Then to top it all off her car gets towed for payments being in arrears. The tow truck driver is none other than super hot Baylor Hail. He does his job but can't get Lark out of his thoughts. I love these two. Their bantering is beyond description. It just made it more realistic and pulled me in that much more into the story. I love the twists of humor too. There were several times I laughed out loud. Lark is proving what a strong tough young lady she is. She's determined to get live life on her terms. Baylor is just as determined to help her and when push comes to shove to knock down all those stumbling blocks in her way. When Lark's past finds her these two are in a fight for their lives. I love the glimpses we get of Rafe. I think he's a very intriguing not only as another champion for Lark. I hope we get to know him better in future books. This book is very well written and has everything that I could crave in a book. Great characters, humor, intrigue, suspense, 'hotness', great dialague between the characters... What the Hail is Book 4 in The Hail Raisers Series. It can be a stand alone. In fact this is the first book in the series I have read. The first book I have read by this author. The only thing I can say now is that I'm throughly addicted to this series and now consider any book written by Lani Lynn Vale a 'must' read.

This series just gets better and better. Big, silent, ex-special services since he was injured on duty, Baylor Hail works with his brothers in the repair, repo business. Doing the latter is how he met sweet little Lark. He repossessed her car and she cried. Darn, he'd rather take on a violent man than deal with a crying female. Especially this female. He hadn't wanted a woman like this for...well, forever. When he wanted something he got it. He just had to figure out how. Lark didn't socialize. She didn't date or anything else with a man. And what a man this guy was. He was doing his job. She didn't mean to cry it was just too much. A victim of abuse she'd escaped her former husband but knew he hadn't given up. She wasn't letting anyone else into her messed up life. But, man, was he hot! It's amazing they get anywhere with the lack of communication--not misunderstandings. Silence. Guess they managed but Lark said once. Just once and that was it. Yeah, right. Baylor didn't argue, but he knew different. Now that he'd had her he wasn't letting go. Can he get her to spill her problems? Can he protect her from her cop ex? What will it cost? Don't miss this one. These guys are every bit as hot, and alpha as any MC guy! We learn a lot about Baylor and other family members. I strongly recommend this as a stand-alone, and the whole series. Reviewed for Words Turn Me on.

4.5 Stars What the Hail, is the fourth title in the Hail Raisers series, and it's by far my favorite of this series. Lani Lynn Vale has this amazing ability to create quirky, endearing, relate-able, imperfect characters and engaging and unique plot lines. Lark and Baylor are an incredibly like-able pair, with a chemistry and attraction that is instantaneous and intense, it just draws you into their story. Lark has a past she's desperately trying to put behind her, and has difficulty knowing who to trust. She's complex, endearing, sweet and funny. She's a survivor and portrays a great blend of strength and vulnerability. Baylor is protective, patient, persistent alpha who's not afraid to go after what he wants. The banter this pair share is fun, flirty, witty and laced with humor filled one liners. Their love scenes are passionate and full of steam, and dirty talk. Overall What the Hail is a great blend of heat, heart, humor, intrigue and suspense that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a romantic suspense, or is a fan of Lani's previous titles.

Baylor Once again Lani has woven a tale that sweeps in and knock you off your feet. Lark is a woman who has been through something that a lot of women go through but she decides to do what's needed to get out of the situation and back on her feet. She thought she had it figured out until the car she was given gets towed by the delectable Baylor. One thing Baylor Hail can't stand is a crying woman and to be the reason that she's crying, one pat on the back leads him to thinking about the broken woman whose car he towed and how he can make it better. These two are a match made in heaven and when someone tries to step in the way of their HEA there will be HAIL to pay. The Hail family is one that you would want to be a part of they have each other back regardless of the reason why. This is a world that I enjoy and can't wait for the next!!!

Much better than the last book with editing and this one didn't feel rushed like the third book in the series. Can't wait for the next one.

Received an ARC at no cost to author..Thanks Lani for Baylor's book! This was the fourth installment to the Hail Raisers and what an installment it was. You can't help but feel sorry for Lark, poor woman has gone thru enough, so when she meet Baylor she breaks down it was just one more horrible thing to happen to her. Thank God for Baylor, who even though he has his own issues he was patient with her. When these two finally agreed to something between them it was combustible. I can't tell you more though, hopefully I just wet your appetite enough to grab a copy..do it..and Enjoy!

These Hail brothers do not disappoint!! I knew Baylor’s story was going to be complex and it was. And Lark definitely got her story told. And wow do they have a story between the two of them! Lark knew that when Baylor repo’d her car, she saw some feeling in his eyes. Baylor proved to be different from her past and someone she can count on, even if she did meet him under less than ideal circumstances. I think I might be partial to Baylor’s story the most just because he’s so layered and complex. Plus he didn’t like people much so that made me like him even more. I hope to read Dante’s story next! I know his will be a huge doozy.

I was so excited for Lark book and boy did she meet her other half in Baylor. I absolutely loved how regardless that Lark can't seem to catch a break she never gives up, she just digs in and continues to try hard. Baylor is exactly who she needs a possessive alpha who doesn't back down either and is there for her every step of the way...even when she tries to give him the slip. Their chemistry and connection was down to earth and easy. They honestly just fit. Oh, yeah and Baylor long monologue was priceless! The way this story comes full circle was perfection! I love how Lani Lynn Vale write her heros and heroines and What the Hail was no different. You are pretty much guaranteed that not only will the characters from the current series make an appearance but from other series too, everyone is interconnected. I am anxiously awaiting Dante story!

Lani Lynn Vale - What the Hail did you put that poor man through. First the issue with his left "you know what", then the sprain, this issue with his dog, and the sword. Poor Baylor when through a lot to finally get his happy ending. Loved how he and Lark fit each other. Loved reading more about Rafe and Janie, which should get very interesting with her dad and "uncles". No matter how many books you read of hers, Lani Lynn Vale keeps making each one different, funny and unique.

Being a tow truck driver comes with certain expectations; pleading, begging, tears, anger, and violence top the list. For Baylor is a bit of a rush, not knowing what will happen at the next pick up, what he doesn't expect is for the tears she shed to bother him as much as they did. He even goes the extra step to make sure that she gets her stuff after the fact, even though that's against policy. He doesn't really know what to make of Lark, he just knows that there is something that makes him want to make her his. For Lark, her car being towed was just another check on the crappy things to happen, and that was just the first time it happened. Being thrown into the life she has now has come with its challenges but she isn't going to give up. She doesn't understand why she has this pull towards Baylor, by all rights she shouldn't trust men ever again, but he has something that makes her gravitate towards and she doesn't regret it at all..... that is until her past shows up to ruin everything she has worked towards. Can Baylor help her make it to the other side in one piece? Will Lark let the past win? So this is part of a series, and TBH I do suggest that you just read from Boomtown on, as this just makes the experience so much better! Lani Lynn Vale has this knack for spinning a story that it plays like a movie in your head. You get sucked into this world she created and its absolutely amazing. I loved that we got to see some of our fave characters from previous books. With drama that has you on the edge of your seat, moments that have you almost sobbing, that right amount of violence, and some funny (seriously laughing out loud) bits to round out this read. This is a 5 star read all the way!
