If questions persist about the quality of the data or the relevance of the story, editorial advisors are consulted. Based on the input from our editorial advisors, either the reporting process begins or the story is dropped. During the reporting process, comment from a source not affiliated with the primary researchers is required for inclusion in the story to provide an unbiased perspective.

What is Bladder Cancer?

The bladder is composed of various "cells", which are intricately combined together into "tissues" which form the "organ" . These cells divide to produce new ones, and grow very rapidly during womb life, early childhood and puberty. In adulthood, new cells are produced only to replace those that die of old age, injury or disease. Normally, division of cells is under very tight control.

This control is exerted by the "genes" inside each cell, which are housed in long clumps forming "chromosomes", which are visible under a light microscope.

Bladder Cancer occurs in many different forms and it's proper treatment can be confusing for both the doctor and patient. While removal of the bladder was the historic treatment for any bladder tumor invading muscle, today new treatment options most often allow the bladder to be saved, with no decrease in patient survival.

It is critical to understand you options up front in dealing with bladder cancer. This can literally make the difference between life and death. Being well educated about this cancer will give you the peace-of-mind knowing you have done everything possible for a happy outcome.

If you've been diagnosed with bladder cancer, you probably have a lot of medical questions related to symptoms and treatment for your doctor. Be sure to find a doctor that you feel comfortable with and who will answer your questions truthfully.

Our material explains to you, in plain English, the definition, frequency, risk factors, symptoms, evaluation, staging, historic and latest effective treatment for bladder cancer. We describe surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and Interstitial brachytherapy.
