Overview

Rose Fleming has been presumed dead for the last decade. It required leaving everything—and everyone—she loved behind, including MacAllister Campbell. But faking her death allowed her to stay safe until the threat posed by a mysterious villain had passed. Believing it’s finally safe again, she returns...and runs smack into the only man she ever loved.

But Rose was wrong and the stalker she escaped years ago still has her in his sights.

Ten years ago, Mac mourned the death of the woman he loved. It’s taken years to heal his heart only to discover that not only is Rose still alive, but still in grave danger. Mac can forgive Rose’s deception, but he’d never be able to forgive himself if he didn’t protect her from the evil still stalking her.

The only thing worse than losing her once would be losing her again... and he won’t let that happen.

a mysterious and fun story

What an engaging tale Our tale begins with our heroine Rose fleeing a villain who we do not know a whole lot about. Her family is lost to her, she is alone, unable to seek help from the one man she wants because she fears to endanger him. After close to a decade of being invisible she resurfaces in London to seek out some answers. Not such a smart move. It seems she has been found and not just by the enemy. Mac has always felt the loss of his Rose deeply. He has questioned if he made the right decisions all those years ago. A night that begins like any other brings him face to face with his lost Rose. Not only is she alive but it seems she may require a bit of assistance. As Rose and MacAllister unravel the mystery of who is after her and why they must also face the true depth of their feelings for one another. The characters were well crafted and the story stayed at a pretty steady pace. Lots of breadcrumbs surrounding the mystery kept me engaged and turning the pages. Rose IMO needed to back down a bit and take a thorough evaluation of her actions and reactions. Her character felt a bit waffly going from intelligent decisions to WTheck are you thinking moments. Mac stumbled a few times with regards to how he felt but IMO he was more levelheaded than Rose and a lot more honest with himself about his feelings When it came to the chemistry between them I had some doubts. For me, the romance felt secondary to the mystery in this story. I enjoyed the hunt. I am curious to read some of the other books in this series The copy I read was provided by Netgalley #WhenALadyKissesAScot #NetGalley

There is so much going on in When a Lady Kisses a Scot--a heroine in hiding, presumed dead; a hero and associates who are part of "Her Majesty's Most Secret Service;" a secret society with evil intentions; hidden tattoos; mysterious pictures and jewelry; so many characters with probably nefarious intentions--at times it was all a bit much to keep track of, and not having read earlier books in the series, I wasn't familiar with those characters either. (They play roles here, but you don't have to have read their stories to read this one; it just would have been easier to keep track of who was who if I'd read the others first.) The pacing also seemed a bit uneven--at times we were hurtling around at breakneck speed, and at other times I found myself checking how much more of the book was left... Overall it was a decent story--the ending is satisfying, and the bad guys/gals eventually get their due (though I still don't 100% understand what exactly they were trying to do--their precise motivations were a bit vague beyond the idea of somehow gaining immortality and power). I do like the idea of men and women working together in "secret service" type organizations, especially in a historical romance, so chances are good that I'd pick up another book by this author even if I didn't totally love everything about this one. Rating: 3 1/2 stars / C+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

MacAllister Campbell can’t believe his eyes the woman he has loved and supposedly died ten years ago is standing right in front of him running from something. Rose Fleming has been presumed dead for the last decade is on the hunt for evidence against the man who killed her family ten years ago. She’s been in hiding biding her time until the threat posed by the villain had passed, but Rose has returned to England in disguise to get to the bottom of her aunt's untimely death and to lay to rest once and for all the mystery behind what’s been going on, why is she being pursued by an arcane arts practitioner and his thugs, why as a child did she get a falcon tattoo, and what does it all mean? Mac is secretly working for Colton Agency, acting for the Home Office and he’s determined to solve the mystery as to who wants Rose killed and why. Mac and Rose have a past, they once loved each other and then Mac left, can they rekindle their lost love and finally find the happiness they both want and deserve? I loved this story it’s filled with intrigue, mystery and a whole of passion and romance!!! An excellent story and one I voluntarily read and reviewed.

I received an advance reader’s copy of this book. This is a well-written book. Action-filled from the first page, the reader is pulled into the story. Rose has returned to England after faking her death years ago. She quickly learns that despite the passage of time she is not safe. A chance encounter with MacAllister reawakens passions and opens her heart, which she believed she’d protected. MacAllister, though angry that he’d been allowed to believe Rose dead all this time, vows to protect her from the dangers facing her. Rose who’s been managing on her own all this time must learn to trust again while MacAllister must do what he can to not lose Rose again. I liked Rose as a character though her reluctance to reveal important information to those helping her was frustrating at times, although her reasons for being reticent were valid. MacAllister and Rose communicated well once she revealed all. I appreciated that they were direct and honest with each other as far as their feelings. The plot twists kept me reading throughout. Overall, I enjoyed this story. It is standalone even though it’s part of a series.

Rose had to disappear when she learned that someone was trying to murder her. Her aunt let everyone believe that she was dead. She moved to America and started a new life for herself. But she hears from her aunt and returns to her homeland. Not long after her arrival, she literally runs into her old flame. Not wanting to drag him into her troubles, she tells him she is not who he thinks she is. Mac can't believe that Rose is alive. He is ecstatic to have a second chance with her. As hard as Rose is trying to push him away, he is fighting with everything he has to protect her and to never let her go. Can they make something of this second chance? I loved Rose and Mac's story!! Reunion stories are always one of my favorites! I loved watching them interact with each other and the bantering between them had me laughing out loud! I love how Kingston is able to mingle the action/mystery parts of her story without distracting from the love story! Hopefully she is continuing with this series as I have throughly enjoyed each one!

I was drawn to this book based on the storyline - a lost love still alive and a chance to rekindle the romance. The mystery behind her disappearance, her family's involvement, and the repeated attempts at her life kept me reading. However, they failed to draw me into the story. I did not feel connected to the characters, nor did they seem connected to each other.

When a Lady Kisses a Scot is the fourth book in Her Majesty’s Most Secret Service series. I haven’t’ read the other books in the series and felt that it could be read as a standalone. Rose Fleming fled to America when her life is in danger, but when she receives word that her aunt needs her she returns. She is trying to solve the mystery of why she is in danger when she runs into MacAllister, the man she loved and had to leave behind. MacAllister works for the Secret Service and is convinced that the investigation he is working on is somehow connected to Rose’s mystery. As they work together to solve the mystery their love for one another grows, but there are mysteries to solve and obstacles to overcome before they can have their HEA. The book was well written and full of twists. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinion are my own.

I was granted the privilege to read an ARC of this book not knowing it was number 4 in the series. I was worried when I noticed but this can be read as a stand-alone. You get to meet the other characters from past books as you find out they are together but honestly if you are a romance lover like me, we all know the hero and heroine will get together in the end . I also had no clue how much adventure and suspense I would find with in the pages of this amazing book! Tara Kingston is a new to me author but not anymore! I loved her style of writing; she has created a wonderful world were women and men work together to keep people safe. I loved every page, cried, screamed, and wanted to cover my eyes at parts. Rose and MacAllister are two headstrong set in their lives people and even though they want to be together it doesn’t look possible. Rose lives in NYC and MacAllister lives in London, not exactly the easiest commute. Not that they get to think about that in the beginning anyway. There is someone trying to keep their happy ever after from becoming a possibility. Rose and MacAllister have to work together to know if a future is even possible. So, what are you waiting for go grab this fantastic book, curl up in your spot an enjoy!

London 1894 "It was not every day that a man looks into the eyes of a dead woman. All things considered, the imposing Scot who'd once broken Rose Fleming's heart was taking it rather well." MacAllister Campbell's jaw seemed to drop as he looked at her. Of course he would see through her disguise and recognize her, oh and the villian was on her trail and about to catch her. So she decided kissing Mac would make the man walk by and not know it was her. Oh not a bad idea at all! A wonderful story full of suspense, intrigue, murder, heartfelt emotions and a second chance at love. Everything I look forward to in a historical romance. Plus a sigh worthy hero in Mac who had mourned the death of Rose ten years ago and really never gotten over her. But the surprising news is, she is not dead and she just appeared before him! Rose had to escape ten years ago when her brother was killed and a villan was on her trail. She came back to England to find the out about her aunt's death and runs into the man of her heart. What she doesn't know if that Mac is part of a group of spies and there is a lot more going on and that he is determined to keep her safe. What will happen to these two? An engaging story that will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can!! Lori D.

Someone wants Rose Fleming dead. She has faked her death for the last ten years to keep herself safe. Why is someone after her? She only knows that she was promised to someone for a debt. When she comes to London from America, she is being followed. When she is due to meet someone, she runs into an old childhood friend. MacAllister Campbell is someone who has known Rose since they were young and In love. No promises were made, so he left Scotland to travel and explore. He finds she is in danger and swears to protect her. It is more than criminals. There is a secret cult who wants her for more than her body. She already bears the mark. Will MacAllister and the Colton Detective Agency along with the Home Office be able to protect her? The feelings between Rose and MacAllister are strong but his career is in London and hers is in New York. Will they be able to make it work? I loved this book. It is a story with the occult but it is not a paranormal romance. I loved the story and the characters. I received this book from Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for a honest review.

This was my first read by Tara. The prologue had sucked me in, although with chapter 1 happening ten years later I kind of was hoping the main couple Mac and Rose weren't going to meet again so quickly due to the circumstances. I kind of wanted more of an anticipation as a reader. I'm also unsure if these characters appear in the other books in this series, but they are all standalones. I was surprised by the mystery and action that happened and 10% left in the book was glad for a change of a longer ending. Overall this was a good read! I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

*I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review* As a whole, this is an entertaining and fun read. My favorite aspect was the mystery behind the attempts on Rose's life and the murders of those close to her. Watching the investigation unfold and bringing in the additional agents from the investigation agency kept the action moving along at a good pace. The prologue sucks you in immediately and I liked that the next chapter picks up 10 years later and drops you right into the middle of the action. The final revelation isn't a complete surprise, but there are a few twists and turns that keep you interested. Rose is a strong heroine and (as it is pointed out multiple times) is able to overcome her fears and do what she has to in order to free herself from those plotting against her. MacAllister is everything a historical romance hero should be. With that said, it was actually the romance part of the book that I found least interesting. Some of the dialogue between Rose and MacAllister is a little cheesy and had me rolling my eyes at times. I loved them as a couple, it really was just the times they were speaking lovingly to one another that I thought could have been better written. I don't want to give away too much, but I have to say I did thoroughly enjoy Rose fighting for her freedom rather than waiting to be rescued - she was definitely not a damsel in distress. It was also nice to see that she didn't have to automatically give up the life she had made for herself simply for being a woman in this time period.

3.5 stars from me I enjoyed that this book had both romance and action/suspense. That's not really a normal thing in historical romance books. Although this is part of a series it can easily be read as a stand alone without missing a beat. I also liked how strong a heroine Rose makes. She is by no means a push over a knows what she wants to do. Thanks to netgalley and entangled publishing for the ARC for the review

Believing it’s finally safe again, Rose returns.and runs smack into the only man she ever loved. Rose was wrong about the danger being gone. The stalker she escaped years ago still has her in his sights. What does this man want with Rose and why are the people she loves being systematically killed off one by one? As expected from this author this newest book is a suspense thriller with romantic overtones. This is book #4 in Her Majesty’s Most Secret Service series and although the title may lead you to think otherwise the story doesn't occur in Scotland. Our hero though is Scottish born. This Romantic Suspense starts out in London and most of the story happens there. There are a surplus of characters being murdered and some are closely connected to our heroine and some only briefly crossed paths with her. All are connected to our villain though. The murder victims seem almost ceaseless but the romance is a very nice compliment to this tragic storyline. I gave this book 4.25 (rounded down to 4) of 5 stars. I received a complimentary copy of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

This was such a great book to read, I had a hard time putting it down because I wanted to know what would happen next! lol This story is filled with mystery, intrigue, murder, betrayal....and best of all, romance and love. Rose Fleming and MacAllister Campbell are given a second chance at love when years after he had thought her dead, she's suddenly standing right there in front of him! Her life is in danger, someone is out to get her and MacAllister will do everything in his power to help her. Every time I thought I had figured out who was after her, there would be a twist in the story and then I was left guessing again! lol Wonderfully written and it sure kept me on the edge of my seat. Never a dull moment!! I was given an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

3.5 Stars “We all have our secrets…” Rose Fleming has been in hiding for the better part of her life. After the death of her brother and the threat on her own life, Rose flees her home in Scotland and builds a new life for herself in New York. Finally feeling safe with an ocean between her and the villain that has haunted her dreams, Rose is stricken with fear when she receives an ominous note from her aunt beseeching her help. Without thought to her own safety, Rose rushes to her aunt’s side only to discover she is too late, and was lured back to London for reasons far too sinister to imagine. MacAllister Campbell is shocked to discover that the woman who ran into his arms as if the very Devil was chasing her is non-other than his lost love, Rose Fleming. Long thought dead these past 10 years, when she clings to him and begs for his kiss, he’s, of course, obliged to come to her rescue. But as the plot of her reasons for fleeing the country and faking her death unravels, MacAllister vows to protect Rose at any cost…even if it’s his own life. When A Lady Kisses a Scot is my first read by Tara Kingston. What lies within these pages, is not what the shiny cover portrays. Rose and MacAllister’s journey to a happily ever after is filled with a macabre mystery. Once I set the thought of this being a romance to the side and read it as a mystery, I found myself enjoying the story more. This is part of Tara Kingston’s Her Majesty’s Most Secret Service Series, but may be read standalone. There are no cliffhangers. Would recommend to fans of historical reads. **I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

A heroine, Rose, whom somebody is trying to hurt and an old lover hero, MacAllister, who tries to keep her out of danger. This is a new to me author. I think the author could have revealed the truth behind the danger to Rose much earlier in the story. It was a bit dark for me with many murders occurring. I felt it was more of a mystery story than a romance. I received an ARC for my honest review.

A story that explores the opportunity to see the love of your life after you thought they were dead. Rose stumbled into McAllister as she is running from someone following her. He thought he was seeing a ghost. After a decade apart fate has brought them back together. The author takes us on a tale of desperation and intrigue as someone tries to kill Rose and Mc. and his friends fight to protect her. Tense moments ensue on the path to their happy ending.

Rose Fleming has escaped her home and been presumed dead, leaving her dead family behind except her Aunt Helen, and the man she loves MacAllister Campbell. Now ten years later she appears in London. But the man who she escaped from has her in his sights again, but still does not know what he wants from her. Who can she trust. Though fourth in the series the book can easily be read as a standalone story, even though the characters from the previous books to make an appearance and contribute to the story. An enjoyable and fun, well-written mystery/thriller with some romance in the story. As with the other books in the series the main couple are a likeable pair.
