About the Author

The author, Dave Smith, is a native of North Carolina who has lived from one end of the state to the other. Born in the quiet town of Granite Falls NC, as a child he moved from town to town with his family, then joining the Navy after graduating high school in Hildebran NC. Everywhere he lived or visited, he was drawn to the history of the area. He is an avid history buff and is constantly fascinated by some facet of history. He also loves Science Fiction and has written several short stories.

His love of weather, coupled with being an Aerographer's Mate (a Weatherman) in the Navy, compelled him re-enter school after the service and earning his B.S. in Meteorology from NC State in Raleigh NC. After landing a job for the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, he met the Captain of a Civil War Reenactment group from Tennessee. He was recruited and the die was cast. History, camping, lifelong friends, all came together in one place for him.

He has since retired and resides on a small farm in the southwest part of the state, keeping bees, playing with his dog and riding his horses. Springtime almost always brings the roar of black powder fire in the pasture as his troops gather for drill, shaking off the winter and getting ready for the coming year.
