The latest addition to the Regency Spies series, While You Were Spying is the highly anticipated prequel to When Dashing Met Danger and Pride and Petticoats.

Francesca Dashing would like to forget that Ethan Caxton, the Marquess of Winterbourne, exists. He humiliated her in front of all of London Society-and he doesn't even remember it! But when Ethan shows up in her sleepy Hampshire town, he's hard to overlook, and his presence stirs up long-buried feelings. Francesca tries to keep her distance...until her life is threatened and the mysterious and handsome marquess comes to her rescue, in more ways than she ever thought possible.

Winterbourne has traveled to Hampshire on orders from the Foreign Office-he's investigating an arms smuggling ring and is determined to find its leader. Miss Dashing stumbles into his way-literally-and derails both Ethan's assignment and his ordered country life. Ethan knows he needs to ignore the distraction, but when Francesca is the victim of a vicious attack, he's compelled to put aside his mission to protect her. Guarding the viscount's daughter is work, nothing more, and Ethan has no plans to let down his guard...until Francesca's chocolate-brown eyes and endless compassion melt the ice in his heart and lay siege to his defenses.

"While You Were Spying" by Shana Galen A Regency Spies Novel Francesca Dashing was secretly looking through a window into a crumbling mud building at a poor ill used colt she had intention of saving from his fate when the bucket she was standing on lurched from under her and she pinwheeled helplessly backwards tumbling into a wall of hard, unyielding muscle. The man pulled her close to him with one arm while he covered her mouth with the other. The Marquess of Winterbourne was sent to Hampshire by the Foreign Office to find the leader of the local smuggling ring. He was investigating the owner of the colt and didn't want to be found snooping around his place. Francesca turned and recognized the man who left her in the middle of the dance floor last season. Leaving her caused quite a scandal but Ethan, the Marquess of Winterbourne didn't even remember it much less remember her name. She had gotten betrothed shortly after that scandal but she backed out of that for reasons of abuse by her fiancee which she never told anyone about. After her failed engagement she again turned to caring for animals with a vengeance like the abused colt. Ehan, had been betrothed with the love of his life but came upon her cheating with his best friend. He left love behind and dedicated his life to serving the crown. Later Francesca was attacked as she was leaving her animal hospital on her estate. Ethan had the feeling that the attack was connected to the smuggler as the owner of the colt was killed the previous day. Ethan felt he had to protect her. Francesca still had a crush on him but could she trust him? Could Ethan trust her? Could he keep her safe? Lot of Intrigue and suspense. You can't go wrong reading anything by Shana Galen. I really liked this book in her spy series.... Happy Reading!

This is a wonderful book. Shana has always written a wonderful novel. But this a great book. I can't wait to read more of this series. This has me so involved in that I couldn't put the book down. The storyline between the characters is wonderful. I would recommend this book to everyone. I love that the men are doing what is best for their country but also trying to protect everyone that they love. It shows how men have not changed through the years.

This is not a sweet book, it has 3 attempted rape episodes in it. I didn't like Ethan and Francesca's characters in this book either. Their characters were much better in the books "When Dashing Met Danger" and "Pride and Petticoats". If I had read this book first I wouldn't have read the other two. I didn't enjoy reading this book at all! I have deleted this book off of my nook and I will not be buying anymore of her books in the future.

This story is a prequel to the Regency Spies series and it features the lively Francesca Dashing and the roguish spy, Ethan Caxton, the Marquess of Winterbourne.  When Francesca ends up in the middle of Ethan’s investigation of an arms smuggling ring as she’s trying to rescue an abused horse, he finds it hard to ignore her.  When he hears that she’s been brutally attacked, he feels he must protect her.  And away we go…with danger, intrigue, and lots of conflicted emotions for our hero and heroine, it’s touch and go as to whether they’ll get over past hurts and find a way to trust each other enough to give love a chance.  I loved Francesca’s kind heart and courage, and as for Ethan’s stubborn determination to keep her at arm’s length, at times it seemed like he really needed a kick in the pants to wise up and see what he had right in front of his nose.  Of course it wouldn’t be half as good a story if everything all worked out from the first, and the conflicts they encounter make it all that much sweeter when we get to the happily ever after.  I always know I’m in for a great story whenever I pick up a Shana Galen book, and this one was definitely another winner.

Another captivating and sweet Regency romance! It's always a delight to read Shana Galen's books, so when I saw “While You Were Spying” I had to get it. I wasn't disappointed! Another fabulous historical romance very well written. It tells the story of Francesca Dashing would like to forget that Ethan Caxton, the Marquess of Winterbourne, exists. He humiliated her in front of all of London Society! But when Ethan shows up in Hampshire, her heart still has strong feelings for him. What will she do? Meanwhile, Ethan is investigating an arms smuggling ring and is determined to find its leader. Will she complicate his plan? It's really a charming romance filled with mystery, romance and intrigue! Very well written, it was a page turner! I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and BMLA Digital in exchange for an honest review

Her love for animals gets Francesca Dashing in trouble. When she goes to a neighbour’s to rescue an abused foal, she literally falls into the arms of Ethan Caxton. He doesn’t remember her, but she couldn’t forget the man who humiliated her publicly a year before. However, Ethan, Marquess of Winterbourne, was not near Francesca’s home by accident: he is an agent of the Crown and is looking to dismantle a smuggling operation, villains who are selling arms to the French, and rumour has it the traitors are on Miss Dashing’s doorstep. WHILE YOU WERE SPYING is a prequel to the Regency Spies series, and it is terrific, as expected from Shana Galen. Francesca is a very independent miss, who doesn’t want to marry; she collects stray animals and loves her puddings, especially chocolate tarts; she’s a heroine for the ages: full of spunk, vivacious, and witty. Ethan is wickedly seductive, but still Francesca doesn’t think he’s a nice man, even though he’s so appealing. Ethan tries to conduct his investigation, but he feels Francesca is always in his way; only when her life is in danger, he rushes to her rescue barely thinking of the consequences.  WHILE YOU WERE SPYING is a delightful romp, filled with romance, adventures, and fabulous characters. Ethan and Francesca are splendid, but secondary characters are just as enticing: Pocklington Ethan’s valet is a riot, as is Francesca’s irrepressible mother with all her Italian pretensions. I love how the romance progresses, amid the underlying mystery; everything is connected for a reason, plot twists abound. Shana Galen pens yet another winner!
