White Hot (Hidden Legacy Series #2) by Ilona Andrews

The Hidden Legacy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews continues as Nevada and Rogan navigate a world where magic is the norm…and their relationship burns hot

Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …

About the Author

"Ilona Andrews" is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored two New York Times and USA Today bestselling series—the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and the romantic urban fantasy of The Edge—and are working on the next volumes for both. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

Wow. I always look forward to an Ilona Andrews book because they never disappoint. White Hot was full of action and was fast-paced. I could hardly put it down and stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to read it. I can't wait for Wildfire!

I had to refresh and read the first book again and enjoyed it as much as the first time. This 2nd book is just as well written with a fresh storyline. Can't wait for the next in series to be released Aug 2017!

I have to admit that I pretty much love everything that they have written. But, they hold up to their end of the bargain by continuing to write such fantastic stories. The characters grow and evolve, and the story pulls you in until you can't put it down. Thank goodness my kids are old enough to feed themselves now. If you like a great story with the best characters that has action and humor and some sizzle, well then you should love this book!

The fist I’ve read from Ilona Andrews, and this won’t be the last! With everything I love in a story: action, drama, characters to befriend and just the right amount of backstory to help build a reader’s connection to those characters, the fun was never-ending. Having not read the first in this series, I was worried about missing pieces of the story, or walking away with questions. Andrews answered all of the possible questions in resolutions and information, without making it feel overwhelming: and I felt confident enough in the world that was built and the ongoing progression of the plot to feel as if I missed nothing but the pleasure of diving into this world from the beginning. Nevada is a wonderful heroine – brave, determined and developing skills that are little short of remarkable. Working out her own place in this world, as well as her relationship with / to Connor is constantly in flux, and the whole relationship is bundled into a two steps forward three steps back series of circumstances, often mixed with danger and action, complicated by the fact that, essentially he is her boss. And Connor “Mad” Rogan is just marvelous. One of those people who at first glance are just scary badass, but look a bit deeper and you find a heart of gold, honorable and upright, determined to protect what he sees as his. And they are his – as leader of the Primes, he keenly feels any affront as a personal attack – and responds in kind. Between the action, threats and wonderful moments of romance, Andrews added secondary characters and humor that added depth and a richness to the story that would have otherwise been a very tense, if wholly enjoyable read. Mixing in secondary characters (Bug most notably) and adding the humor kept the story balanced, just when the tension became too much a laugh, a new character or even a bit of romance kept me engaged and intrigued, turning the pages faster and faster. A wonderful read that had me grabbing the first in the series, and checking out the backlist for Ilona Andrews for more great reads. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Everything I expected and more. Nevada and Rogan have a chemistry that lures you in and doesn't let go. The world building is off the charts. I'm frantic to get to read Wildfire. Without question, three books won't be enough.

I'm glad we finally got the 2nd one in this series. As usual it was great. Can't wait for the finale and to see what Gordan and Ilona do next.

Cover issues aside, 2017 is the Hidden Legacy year. Not only did we had the re-release of Burn For Me, we'll also have the next two on the trilogy published. And let me tell you, Wildfire cannot be on my hands soon enough. But let's talk about White Hot. It is freaking amazing. Best read of the year so far. We get to see how life goes after the "Price incident". We get to see Nevada settling into her power. We get to see Mad Rogan as Connor. We have a new mystery, a solid plot, we get to see more of Nevada's family. We have some twists and turns. Politics and power plays. We get deeper on the major conspiracy theory. And since we have a sizzling attraction, we get more of that too. And we have enough promises for Wildfire that make me think that I'll need more stars to rate it. If you are a Paranormal Romance fan, pick this series. If you are a urban fantasy fan, please don't let the covers or the romance promises, and pick this series up. Is that good. It is as good... or maybe better than Kate Daniels. And I don't want it to stop at three. Best. Read. Of. The. Year.

I just could not put White Hot down. I love this series so much. Nevada is a wonderful heroine. She is strong-willed, loyal, and she is also funny. I love her as a character. While there are times when she frustrates me, I still can't get enough of her adventures. The supporting cast of characters are just as complex and entertaining. I'd love for this series to continue but eventually, give the other characters their own stories. I don't want to get too caught up on the "will they? When will they?" push and pull between Nevada and Rogen. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely worth the long wait. The dark humor had me howling with laughter. Nevada and Rogan are my new favorite power couple. Hail the Authorlords.

This is the second book in The Hidden Legacy Trilogy. It needs to be read in order and the first book is Burn for Me. For Nevada, life has returned to normal. Well, minus Mad Rogan in it. Then a new client, an unexpected one, and one who she has meant, Cornelius Harris, has a job offer, he wants to know who killed his wife... And so Nevada is once again pulled into the world of Primes, pulled into the gravitational pull of Mad Rogan, fate forcing them to work together once more. Then if her life isn't a mess already, a family secret will come out forcing Nevada to fully admit what she has already known, she is a Prime, and not only that, several family members lives will change too. And by the time this case comes to a close, Baylor Investigations has a new employee, its first not family member, and when everything seems to be going well for Nevada, the new threat, she knew was coming, has begun to move into play...not to mention the "Cesar" is still at large. As the first book in this series, you get to know more of the world of magic. More of the lives of the characters you love and all the twists and turns that makes a good story. Worth the time to dive into the world pf Legacies and Primes, magic and mayhem.

The second book in the Hidden Legacy installment was even better than the first.  The tremendous character development was beyond words.  Not only do we get a better insight into Nevada and Rogan but we see more of Nevada’s outstanding family.  They are such colorful and vivid secondary characters that it’s hard to not want to be Nevada, not to mention if you are Nevada you get Rogan.  Oh man, what a package! Once again, in White Hot, the story is fast-paced, full of action and danger, with magic and intrigue.  The sexual chemistry between Nevada and Rogan is off the charts and he is Alpha male to the max, swoon!  I can’t wait for more! I am giving White Hot 5 Boundless Stars, I loved it!

4.5 stars ~ In WHITE HOT by Ilona Andrews, Nevada and Connor are back on the hunt for the secret conspiracy organization responsible for Pierce’s plan to destroy Houston in BURN FOR ME. When the group decides she and her family must be silenced for good, Nevada once again partners with Connor “Mad” Rogan to bring them to justice. Andrews delivers a unique mixture of magically enhanced warfare, an endearing cast of characters, and wickedly heated romance in this riveting second book of the Hidden Legacy series. I fell hard for Nevada in BURN FOR ME and after devouring the second book in the series, I’m as enamored as ever. She will do anything to keep her family and the people who need her help safe, even if it means revealing the secret of her truthseeker powers to the world, revealing her “monstrous” powers that even the most dangerous mages fear, and never returning to the normal life she desires. Teaming up with Connor Rogan is not Nevada’s idea of a good time. She is wickedly attracted to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Dangerous, but she won’t settle for physical attraction, she wants love. That’s not the only reason to avoid a relationship with the man. He IS named Mad Rogan for a reason. While she’s not so sure she believes he’s the sociopath he appears to be in BURN FOR ME, she’s not sure she’d survive a relationship with the man. I can’t say I blame her for avoiding a relationship with the most dangerous Prime in the country, but as the mystery behind what made Mad Rogan a force to be reckoned with begins to clear, it’s hard to fault any woman for falling for him. Yes, he considers some actions most people consider wrong as a means to an end, but he is also loyal, principled, and never goes back on his word. After reading WHITE HOT, he has earned the title of Book Boyfriend. But an intensely sexy romance with yummy magically charged sex is not all WHITE HOT has to offer. There’s the delightfully weird, but oh so hilarious Baylor family composed of Nevada’s mechanic grandmother who builds tanks and other armored vehicles, an ex-military sniper mother who’d rather shoot first and ask questions later, two sisters whose powers may be even more terrifying than Nevada’s, two cousins with very handy talents, and a father whose death still hurts, but who’s mysterious past comes back to haunt them in WHITE HOT. There’s also Cornelius Harrison, Significant level animal mage of the Prime House Harrison and his adorable four-year old daughter. They have their own parts to play in WHITE HOT and they’re just as entertaining as the Baylor family. I’ve never read an Ilona Andrews novel that I didn’t love. Her worlds are well-crafted, unique, and always one of a kind. Her characters are heartwarming, heartbreaking, and just plain moving. If you’ve never experienced the addictive writing of an Ilona Andrews novel, you are missing out.

My Disclaimer: I purchased this book for full price at BN.com. I am voluntarily providing an honest review in which all opinions are fully my own. I am not being compensated in any way. ~ Judi E. Easley for Blue Cat Review My Review: ✭✭✭✭ I couldn’t resist buying the second book, and it was worth every penny I spent on it. The first book stopped at a place that just begged for the next one. Not exactly a cliffhanger, but pretty darn close. So, since book 2 came out in May, I was able to buy it and get busy reading. In this one, Nevada hasn’t heard from Rogan since the ending of the last case when they first met. She has a new client. Cornelius wants Nevada to find out who killed his wife. He knows he’s been lied to about what happened and he wants the truth. Rogan, of course, gets involved as Nevada stumbles through the intricate society that makes up their magic world. She’s too new to the social swirl to know when she has or is about to make a mistake. Rogan and her new client try to help her pick her way through the dance that seems to be the rules of their high society, but Nevada isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, especially in a fight. She goes to one high society event in a lovely dress with brutal markings around her neck showing where someone tried to kill her. She always makes an impression. The relationship is gaining momentum in this book and getting steamier. They are both aware of their feelings for each other and open about them. People close around them definitely see them as a couple and their society is becoming aware of them as a pair as well. Some are delighted and some are ready to kill them. Literally. There seems to be a conspiracy afoot and Rogan and Nevada seem to keep getting in its way of starting a New Rome and putting their own Ceasar at its head. For a bonus from this case, Nevada gets a large blue cat-like creature and a non-aggressive Grizzly bear, named Teddy to add to her family. She also gets her first non-family employee and House support. Other than House Rogan, that is. And I needed the third book when I was done with this one, of course. You will, too.

It seemed like forever since we were introduced to Rogan and Nevada and their explosive personalities and emotions. "Burn for Me" was epic. White Hot, has left me fanning. I'm starting Wildfire now. Ilona Andrews has not disappointed me yet.
