Why Didn't They Ask Evans? by Agatha Christie

A dying man’s bewildering last words pull an inquisitive young man and his beautiful companion into a dangerous web of lethal secrets in Agatha Christie’s classic mystery, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?

While playing an erratic round of golf, Bobby Jones slices his ball over the edge of a cliff. His ball is lost, but on the rocks below he finds the crumpled body of a dying man. The man opens his eyes and with his last breath says, "Why didn't they ask Evans?"

Haunted by those words, Bobby and his vivacious companion, Frankie, set out to solve a mystery that will bring them into mortal danger. . .

Brilliant! The characters are amusing, the ending was strong... An amazing book. Five stars! The Evans topic could have been more dominant, however. I feel that it was a bit overshadowed by other things that were going on. Despite the fact neuther Poirot or Miss Marple starres in this novel, it was still pretty fantastic.

Another book that doesnt have M. Hercule POirot in it nor miss Jane Marple. But still the book is very interesting though not a very intelligent plot. A very plain story that lacks credibility at times. But Christie has done a marvellous job by giving it this title that keeps the reader wondering till the very end. The book has a few characters and the last words of a dying man which are the most intriguing part of it.

This mystery is, in a way, more light-hearted than some of Dame Christie's other works. She usually has humor in her works somewhere (be it ironic, dry, or overt). It still has villains and murder, but handled with a touch more humor. Perhaps, because the intrepid heroes are in their early 20's as opposed to the more mature Poirot and Marple. Christie's description of Badger (a couple of paragraphs on page 59) is one of my favorite bits of prose ever.
