I am one of those women who is desperately in love with love. Romance novels are among my favorite reads, but I'm pretty picky when it comes to which ones I'll thoroughly enjoy. I've never delved too deeply into the western genre before, but after a random urge to read a book in that genre- I found the Redemption Mountain series. Redemption's Edge (Book 1 in the series) had me hooked and in love with the storyline, and I couldn't wait to begin reading this second book in the series, Wildfire Creek. This particular romance story follows Luke, your typical newfound cowboy in every sense of the word. For any girl who grew up in a small rodeo town- you'll understand Luke to a T. In love with being a single man and a rancher, the last thing he intends to do is fall in love. Ginny is just as independent as Luke, but unlike Luke she hasn't lived as privilaged of a life. Her unfortunate past and free-spirit demeanor draws Luke in and that's where this story gets interesting. Neither Ginny nor Luke have plans to fall in love- but love can happen without us planning on it, can't it? They're up and down friendship takes a few tumbles as they figure out what exactly they think of one another, and what exactly their hearts want. The Montana setting of this story is captured perfectly. As a girl who loves a lot of the country lifestyle (but doesn't necessarily live in rancher country), I liked reading into a nice escape from reality. The scenery, the small town essence, the rodeo mentality, were brought forth in perfect detail. I grew up in a small farming town in Illinois and I know the ways of ranchers pretty well. I feel like this book captured the romance and simplicity of that kind of life perfectly. Ginny stole my heart right from the beginning. Her independent attitude and determination to succeed in life amidst all odds is admirable to say the least. She's the kind of woman, many women hope to be. Luke, on the other hand, is attractive as heck- but I took some time warming up to him. He and Ginny will appeal to two different people, but the fact they're attracted to one another makes this story really interesting. It is an 'opposites attract' tale, and I love those kinds of stories, so I really enjoyed this one. The western setting fit these two characters perfectly and allowed their story to play out at the slow, but perfect pace that it needed to. Like I said, I love romance novels- but rarely read westerns. This combination of both genres was done really well and I feel like any small-town country girl will fall madly in love with the sceneries and people in this magnificant little love story.

Wildfire In the continuing story of the Pelletier brothers, Luke faces a challenge greater than anything he faced in the war, his time as a Texas Ranger, or growing a successful ranch. A woman. Ginny Sorensen is a sweet and innocent young woman who has never know what it's like to have feelings for a man before. They met in book 1, and you could tell from the start that they were attracted to each other. In this book, that attraction grows and starts to become a problem because they both want lives that don't include each other. There are also several side stories that will keep you thoroughly entertained. Lots of romance, action, mystery, and suspense. And as always a nice bridge to the next book at the end. Shirleen Davies is one of my favorites for a good reason. She is one of the best!

“Wildfire Creek” is the second novel in the “Redemption Mountain” historical western series, and it tells the story of Luke, who was introduced in the first book but who took a backseat in the storyline to his brother Dax.  Luke isn’t interested in a wife or children—he’s determined to live a life of adventure, whether working on the ranch or trying to track down gold thieves for Pinkerton’s. Despite his resolve, he can’t help but be drawn toward selfless and kind Ginny, a barmaid who tirelessly works to care for her five-year-old sister; he finds himself stepping in to help her when she needs it most, even though it hurts her pride.  However, he also has to deal with danger from Indians, mysterious disappearances from the ranch, and a renegade named Flatnose… Western romance is one of my favorite genres, and “Wildfire Creek” is an entertaining and satisfying read—it’s got a handsome, rough-and-tumble cowboy who’s both sensitive and complex, a spunky and likeable heroine, and a plot full of adventure and suspense over whether their romance can work itself out despite the obstacles in its way. I also liked the secondary romance between Noah and Abigail—it was a sweet bonus for me within the larger plot. The author has a talent for bringing this period to life realistically and vividly, and doesn’t shy away from some of the harder aspects of frontier life even though it’s fiction.  Recommended to readers who like sweeping historical romances that are grounded with memorable, likeable characters and a strong sense of place and setting.

Shirleen Davies returns us to a time just after the Civil War with “Wildfire Creek” Book 2 in the ‘Redemption Mountain Series.’ In Book 1, Dax found his life turned upside down and his soul mate when he met Rachel. Now it’s his younger brother’s turn. Luke, a part inheritor of a ranch with his older brother, Dax, is in the Montana Territory. Unlike Dax though, Luke still finds the wild in his heart, a yearning for adventure that the Pinkerton Detective Agency soothes occasionally. A run in with an arrow lays Luke up a bit before he chomps at the bit and ends up in the bar in town, the place where he first met pretty barmaid Ginny. All the townsfolk believed he had his sights set on the girl- something the bachelor happy young man adamantly refused – yet something his heart decided on anyway. Responsible Ginny is as far from Luke as one can imagine, though they truly are made for each other. Here they learn about each other, their families, their pain, their surprising commonalities and learn about love. Heartwarming and compelling, this is a contemporary romance that made me smile and allowed my heart to grin. Luke is likable and Ginny is absolutely loveable – though I think Mary was my favorite.

She has done it again! Shirleen Davies never ceases to amaze me and her latest book is the best of them all. The Civil War era is my most favorite time in history and to have Wildfire Creek set just after that era makes this book even more perfect. As always, the author introduces her characters to us in such a  fashion, that almost immediately we make a connection with them and that is what true storytelling is all about for this reader. Luke and Ginny are a great couple that never should be and telling their story this way, adds to the intrigue that I love. Western romance is my favorite book genre and when they are based on a historical note as well, you can be sure that I will be first in line to buy the book. I wasn't expecting what happened with Ginny farther into the book and the ending was a shock as well. Leave it to an author of this caliber to keep the reader guessing even when we think we know what it going to happen.

I love books like this and this one is amazing. It is a romantic western with such passion and action. I was held by it from the start and hated to see it end. Everything is perfect; the details are outstanding and clear. I could feel and see everything. I love the strength of the characters, each one lending part of them selves to make the story so real. Ginny is my favorite and the relationship between her and Luke is both heart warming and heart wrenching. I love this series and Shirleen has certainly become a favorite author of mine. I love her style and her love for writing. I can not wait to read the next book. I most definitely recommend this book to all lovers of romance. I loved it and you will too

'Wildfire Creek' continues the Redemption Mountain series as we follow Luke and Ginny and their choices that bring them closer together, but not before they are pulled apart first. Ginny is truly an unbreakable and independent young woman, as nothing can stand in her way of making a life for herself and her little sister. I didn't like Luke as much as I did Dax from the previous book, but that's not to say that he doesn't have some charming and redeeming qualities of his own. It is undeniable how much Luke cares about Ginny, and his character really shines through when he's close to her. Davies really brings to life the Montana setting in 1866, including the harsher weather, Indians, and what it takes to stay alive and make it. With gold wagons being attacked and survival items being stolen around them, it only adds to the tensions of just who is responsible and how dangerous they may be. I was happy to see Dax and Rachel from the first book in this series as well. I can't wait until the next book from this exceptional author!

… an art of perfection. I am utterly wowed by this extravagant romantic tale of adventure, surprise and drama. Each page left an empty suspense that kept me reading and reading. I was captivated by the characters and the lives they shared amidst their distinct personalities and how they came together was an art of perfection. This book is nothing less than incredible!
