About the Author

About The Author
William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was an English playwright and poet; his works are among the most widely read in the English language. Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, Shakespeare married at 18 to the older Anne Hathaway, fathering three children (Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith). He began a successful acting and playwriting career in London around 1585, although most of his work was produced between 1589 and 1613. He became a respected and successful bard in his day, but renewed interest in his works in the 19th century led to much of his current popularity. He retired in 1613 and died three years later in Stratford.
