Based on her inspiring, viral 2018 commencement speech to Barnard College’s graduates in New York City, New York Times bestselling author, two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA World Cup champion Abby Wambach delivers her empowering rally cry for women to unleash their individual power, unite with their pack, and emerge victorious together.
Abby Wambach became a champion because of her incredible talent as a soccer player. She became an icon because of her remarkable wisdom as a leader. As the co-captain of the 2015 Women’s World Cup Champion Team, she created a culture not just of excellence, but of honor, commitment, resilience, and sisterhood. She helped transform a group of individual women into one of the most successful, powerful and united Wolfpacks of all time.
In her retirement, Abby’s ready to do the same for her new team: All Women Everywhere.
In Wolfpack, Abby’s message to women is:
We have never been Little Red Riding Hood. We Are the Wolves.
We must wander off the path and blaze a new one: together.
She insists that women must let go of old rules of leadership that neither include or serve them. She’s created a new set of Wolfpack rules to help women unleash their individual power, unite with their Wolfpack, and change the landscape of their lives and world: from the family room to the board room to the White House.
· Make failure your fuel: Transform failure to wisdom and power.
· Lead from the bench: Lead from wherever you are.
· Champion each other: Claim each woman’s victory as your own.
· Demand the effing ball: Don’t ask permission: take what you’ve earned.
In Abby’s vision, we are not Little Red Riding Hoods, staying on the path because we’re told to. We are the wolves, fighting for a better tomorrow for ourselves, our pack, and all the future wolves who will come after us.

I couldn’t put it down! Granted, it’s a lot smaller than her last book, it packs a powerful punch. Have you ever been afraid to fail? Have you ever thought that being yourself meant being unworthy? Have you ever thought that maybe you’re in exactly the perfect position and you couldn’t imagine life to be any better than it is right now? Well, no matter where you are in your life at this precise moment, we can all take something away from this. If not for ourselves, to pass on to our own Wolfpack. We deserve better, our girls deserve better. LEAD NOW from wherever you and be FOR each other! I remember meeting Abby once at friendly game in Cary, NC. It was raining and to avoid getting entirely soaked, I had put a plastic bag on my head from a T-shirt I’d purchased. I was screaming her name from the stands and as she looked up and saw my makeshift rain gear, she cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted to me, “you look like an idiot kid!” I learned then that Abby speaks her mind unapologetically. It’s in our best interest to listen and learn from her ;)
Here’s what I want you to know about this book: Old rules will not make a new world. And if you’ve been looking around this old world thinking, there must be a better way, there MUST—you were right. This is it. This is the new rule book. The old path is not there to keep you safe. The path is there to keep you small. This is a new way forward. Or like Abby says: You were never little red riding hood. You were always the wolf. (And if you are wondering if this is a book for men too, I give you this, from the very first pages: “My dream is that people of every gender—as well as people between or beyond gender—will find themselves in these pages. My hope is that this book becomes a leap forward for HUMANKIND.” This one’s FOR EVERYONE.)
Super inspiring for both me & my soccer-obsessed teen!
