Abram Carl Frederik Preller Geldenhuys qualified for his South African Air Force 'Wings' in March 1941. With only twenty more flying hours, Preller Geldenhuys was dispatched to join No 3 Fighter Squadron to East Africa. Once the Italians were defeated at Gondar, ACFP Geldenhuys recovered to South Africa to patrol the coasts for German and Japeneze submarines that threatened the shipping lanes.
