I was born to Alfred and Lena Mandel on July 1, 1928. My parents owned a Stoney Creek Cheese Factory that we lived above. I grew up in the country 3 1/2 miles from the small town of Loyal, Wisconsin. I went to a one room country school with 36 others, grades 1-8. My mother and older sister both worked in the factory, while I cared for four siblings younger than me.
