Overview

Big Nate is on a roll!

Nate’s a big deal in his scout troop . . . until Artur—aka Mr. Perfect—joins up. Now Nate’s stuck in second place. And Artur means business.

Will Nate take the grand prize? Or wipe out, big time?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Big Nate is irresistible! His middle school adventures will get even the most down and out curmudgeon to smile, maybe even laugh out loud. Big Nate and his nemesis, Gina the genius, do battle throughout the book; Nate's big plan to interest Arthur in Gina backfires in an amusing way. Meanwhile, Nate schemes and fantasizes of sweeping his secret crush Jenny off her feet, but, alas, Jenny only has eyes for Arthur. Of course, Nate gets detention and makes us laugh about his "unfairly" being blamed for all sorts of catastrophes. His best friends Francis and Teddy often try to talk Nate out of his harebrained schemes, without much success. He's into scouting and skateboarding and being recognized for his awesomeness. Readers also get to meet Nate's hapless dad and "favorite" teachers. The cartoons and dialogue will hook readers in from the very start and keep them entertained until the end. This title is a must for Big Nate fans, and is sure to create a legion of fans among uninitiated readers. A great feature of being in Nate's fan club is that readers can find his adventures continuing in their daily news comic strips. Reviewer: Jeanne K. Pettenati, J.D.
School Library Journal
Gr 3–6—Big Nate is used to being the shining star of his scout troop, but now Artur-Mr. Perfect-is stealing his spotlight. Not only that, but it is Artur's fault that Nate has detention, and it is his fault that a certain obnoxious girl thinks Nate has a crush on her. The sixth grader is fed up and determined to show that he is better than Mr. Perfect by outselling Artur for the troop's fund-raiser. At stake is more than Nate's reputation-the winner also receives a new skateboard. This series is a great answer for kids looking for "Wimpy Kid" read-alikes, and Nate delivers the comic relief and action appealing to reluctant readers. The comic-strip illustrations throughout add to the fun. This book delivers what fans have come to expect.—Elizabeth Swistock, Jefferson Madison Regional Library, Charlottesville, VA

    SUPER FANTASTIC BOOK!

Big Nate By: Lincoln pierce Fiction graphic novel Book review by: Pancake dude Nate is on a roll!-until he looses his skateboard and has to walk to the timber scouts meeting! AND finds out Artur (Nates worst enemy) joined the timber scouts... The first important event in this book is when Nate looses his skateboard and has to walk all the way to the timber scouts meeting to find out he missed the whole thing and that Artur is the new timber scout. Another important event event...PRIZES!!! One of the biggest events yet! Nate is DYING to win a skateboard for a timber scout fundraiser. The timber scouts have to sell “warm fuzzies.” They’re some kind of weird wall hangings. The third biggest or most important event is when Nate goes to see the play peter pan. He sees ARTUR selling warm fuzzies wall hangings! “Why haven't I thought of that!” “How come he has special privileges?” Nate might say. Not only that but when the kids are in the flying scene when they fly around the room Chad crashed into the wall! Okay last event (not counting the fundraising party) is when Nate starts writing little cards that say: No job to big or to small! People would find these in their doors and car doors and call Nate to help them with yard work and other stuff. That’s how Nate changes. He becomes a hard worker. But not a good worker. Nate is a dynamic character the protagonist and the primary character. I would say Nate is a trouble making kid who if you saw his locker your might say he’s a slob. Nate is DESPERATE for a skateboard that’s FIRST PRIZE for fundraising and selling wall hangings. Nate pretty much HATES Gina and Artur! Gina hates Nate but Artur acts like Nate's best friend! Nate struggles with school a little bit and teachers give him some really hard times! If Nate were real you might just find him in the detention room a lot.Nate is important to the story because he’s the main character of course! Artur doesn't really say his English like everyone else does. He kinda talks like Yoda. Nate would say Artur is Mr lucky but Artur is just plain nice to EVERYONE! Artur and Nate are like COMPLETE OPPOSITES! Artur is PERFECT at selling “Warm fuzzies” which would seem IMPOSSIBLE! Artur always beats Nate at chess and stuff. I wish I could disagree though. Artur is important to the story because Nate wants to FINALLY beat Artur at once! Will he? Teddy is a static character a Protagonist and a secondary character. Gina and Nate are worst enemys! Gina is a static character and a antagonist. Gina and Nate are WORST ENEMY'S. Gina is ALWAYS bragging about her grades. Gina and Artur are both kind to the teachers and the teachers are nice to them. It’s sick. Gina and Nate fight in EVERY book. Gina says “I...HATE...YOUR...GUTS!!!” Nate says “I don’t hate your guts Gina, It’s your face that disgusts me!” Gina is the most ANNOYING character in the book! Gina is important to the book because she’s Nate’s WORST enemy! And I can see why! I like Big Nate because it’s a fun book FILLED with NON-STOP laughs! If your like Diary of a wimpy kid by Jeff Kenny you will LOVE Big Nate! I can read Big Nate all day and so can you! Big Nate=BIG laughs that will keep you laughing FOREVER! Big Nate Is AWESOME and I recommend it to kids who enjoy laughing and reading funny graphic novels!

    Deer Hunting Book

I read Big Nate On a Roll and I rated it five stars. It is new and the latest book of Big Nate.Nate starts to understand Artur more but he still gets on Nate's nerves when Artur is with Jenny who is Nate's girlfriend. Also Nate is a timber scout which is like a boy scout but it is a club. When Teddy's father tells them about selling wall hangings door-to-door Nate hates the idea but then after Nate looks at the grand prizefor most money raised he totally reconsiders. He could win a costumized skateboard! But will Artur sell more wall hangings? Find out by reading to see if Nate will lose the skateboard to his arch-enemy ''Artur?'' Will Gina his arch-arch-enemy ruin his chances? Will she tattle on him until he gets suspended?Find out by reading the latest and greatest Big Nate on a roll.

Every child should own this book!

My son has bookcases filled with books of all sorts. This is the first book he actually wanted to read without us reminding him it was reading time. He read it in three days and he "hates" to read. We will definitely be buying the complete series!

A REVIEW BY ZACH of Madderly Review

Nate is a boy who is a Timber Scout. This year the Timber Scouts are selling wall hangings. The grand prize for selling the most is a new skateboard. Nate wants to win the skateboard, but he has some competition. BIG NATE ON A ROLL is gut-busting fun for the whole family. I couldn't stop myself from laughing at the comics Nate drew about what was happening in his life. This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I have loved reading books since I was four. Now I am an active nine, and for me to like a book it has to be a good one. This one was so good I read it twice!!!
