Definately a page turner- loved it!

How would you feel to wake up buried in a coffen? That is exactly what happened to Vickie. She moves far away from her town and family to try to deal with the thought that she is a Vampire? How did that happen? What does she do now? Who can she trust? She is on her own.

She starts a new life, and does everything in her power not to kill people just to feed. She has to user her new powers (compulsion-making people believe things happen) on everyone.

Vicky meets Drake and she falls in love with him. He is hurt, and it must be instinct, but she saves him.

Even thought the vampire who bit her is after her, and wants her back, Vickie is strong willed and is trying to make it the best she can in this new world.

Will her maker catch up with her? What will happen with Drake and Vickie?

This book is filled with action, romance and friendship.

    Really good Young Adult book

I came across this book because the author was giving it away on her blog for one day. I took a chance and emailed Karly Kirkpatrick. I got the book and read it. I have read other free books that haven't been all that great. I like the author's writing.

I liked the fact that Vicky Hernandez is Latina. I haven't read too many books with Latinos in them. I like that she's the lead character and she has a good self-esteem. She's not a weak female character that needs protection like in other books. She's turned into a vampire and she can take care of herself.

Vicky leaves the town she lived in because her parents had buried her. That's how the book opens, Vicky in her coffin. She moves away where she gazes into people's eyes and hypnotizes them so they will do what she wants and she put whatever she wants into their mind. In this new town she meets Drake, who of course she falls in love with but also wants to drink his blood. She does learn to control herself around him by drinking the blood she has in a cooler. Vicky shares her secret with Drake after an incident outside of his work.

She does take a drink from Drake and then she supplies him with her blood because she leaves him weak. Drake had no problem sharing his blood with Vicky. Vicky keeps getting attacked by vampires who are trying to take her back to the one who turned her. She has no idea why she was turned into a vampire. That's not something she learns till close to the end of the story. Drake and Monty have accidents while trying to help Vicky and they end up being turned into vampires. Vicky does make friends in the new town.

She even hypnotizes a librarian and tells her she is her niece. The lady lets her stay with her and is clueless as to what Vicky is. The effects never really seem to wear off. People believe what Vicky says and it becomes part of their memory.

What I didn't like was that Vicky meets this couple in the beginning and she sucks them dry. Vicky tries to find out what happened to them but it's like they vanished into thin air and no one ever found out about them. Kids are being turned into vampires and no one seems to notice. Vicky drinks blood from blood bags like it's juice. I found that to be disturbing and disgusting. I get she's a vampire but I didn't need to be told Vicky was having her breakfast, lunch or dinner. I got that she was a vampire and needed to drink blood. My other problem was Vicky went to blood banks to get blook and after hypnitizing people no one seem to miss the bags of blood she took. Aside from that it's are really good book.

I like that Vicky is a female who can take care of herself even if she is lonely. She's the one that defends her boyfriend Drake. She's the one who turns him. This is better than Twilight in that Vicky is a strong female character. There is no whining about wanting to be turned by anyone in this story. When people are turned its done to try and "save" them in a way. I would definitely recommend this book.

    A Great Vampire Novel

Bloody Little Secrets is a different type of vampire novel. No sparkles, no vegetarians… real life vampires that can’t go about in the daylight, that use their glamour more often than not, and that yearn for blood. But Vicky is a little different. She doesn’t know who made her. She doesn’t know why she can walk in the daylight. She doesn’t mean to kill people. All she knows is that the vampires hunting her are not the type of people she wants to get to know better, sending her on a journey to stay hidden and safe, while also finding her niche and fitting in with society. But her creator will stop at nothing to get ahold of her blood and walk in the light, as she does.

I really enjoyed this novel. Kirkpatrick is a phenomenal writer, and he characters are divine. I absolutely adored Drake; he’s a very dreamy guy, and his treatment of Vicky, both before and after he knew what she was, makes him a keeper. The whole novel was very captivating and not sugar coated. Vicky craves blood; she kills people—but not in the vicious man eating type of way that “evil” vampires like to kill people—it’s a necessity and an accident, but it’s more believable than a vampire who only eats animals, if you catch my drift. Overall, this is a great read with a fast-paced story line and I highly recommend it to all.

A wonderful vampire book - original

I decided to try two things I normally hadn't done - young adult fiction and a local writer. I am happy to say that they both worked out better than I could have hoped for.
First, vampires had been done and over done thanks to a certain book. But Karly's descriptions of the characters, their senses and feelings, and the surroundings, made for a unique, wonderful story. It didn't follow the traditional storylines and that made for an enjoyable book.
Ans secondly, reading a local writers story was something we don't normally get to do. Her descriptions of the area as it is set locally, were fantastic. I felt like I was right there with the characters getting pizza, or the famous kitchen sink, etc.
Loved this book and recommend her to all I know!

Better than your average vampire novel

Bloody Little Secrets is better than your average vampire novel. When 17 year old Vicky Hernandez wakes up and realizes she's been turned into a vampire, she does what she can to make the best out of her new situation. She leaves town and attempts to create a new life, fall in love and dodge the lackeys of the guy who created her. The book is witty, humorous and action packed. It's definitely a great read whether you're into vampires or not. And best of all... it has a very happy ending.
