A wonderfully written story that took me back to a very special time during my teenage years. It was a privilege to look back through 30 years of experience and insight to an age of innocence that in reality was not so innocent. The setting and characters were so compelling that when I sat down to just preview the first chapter I literally did not put the book down until it was finished the same day. I cannot remember the last time I read an entire book in one day.
I would recommend this to any level reader from young adult and up. A great book to have your teenage child read and then discuss. It's a very real lesson in racial tensions that we sometimes do not want to admit still exist today.

The combination of suspense, beautiful descriptions, and real-life drama make this novel, based on a true story, a must-read for those who love historical novels and for those interested in a good book with a message for today. Extremely well-written!

Recently read this in our book club and needless to say it was unanimously loved and made for a very deep and lively discussion. Touching relationships, innocence, deep bonds, everything that makes a great book. Story was very well done. By all means put in on your list for a unforgettable read.

The beginning of Blue Hole Back Home was overloaded with characters. Too many were introduced in a short period. Once I got them all straightened out, I thought the book was great. The theme is prejudice in a small town. The setting is a small town on the side of a mountain. The story is told from the point of view of a Shelby. The community was all white. A new family had moved to town from Sri Lanka. They had creamed coffee-colored skin and shiny black hair. The new girl and Shelby became quick friends. They went swimming at the Blue Hole with Shelby¿s brother and some of him friends. When the ¿Pack¿ began showing interest in the new girl, the town was distressed. They soon learned the KKK existed in their town. The Clan would go to extremes to get the new family to leave town. Blue Hole Back Home is beautifully written with much sensitivity and wisdom. Blue Hole Back Home demonstrates courage and compassion. I highly recommend Blue Hole Back Home.

I thought this tale was pretty well written. It has been awhil since I shed a tear over a story, especially when I had already figured out the "what" and"who" of the plot early on. I cared about the characters, which is part of what a good author makes you do. I especially liked the use of the John Donne poem in the story. That was really beautiful and personally comforting to me. All in all, a very good book.

I really enjoyed Joy Jordan-Lake's book. It was well written and though parts were hard and brought tears, I felt part of that mountain and could see myself there at the blue hole. I rated this a 4 because I really wanted a more just ending..In life we don't get that very often so I look for some sort of happy ending in books and movies.. :)

This heartwrenching story is beautifully told. Discovering that it is based on the author's real experiences made the novel even more profound for me. Not a "new" tale by any means, this book reminds us of the slippery slope that is the fight for human rights.

I started this book this morning, and could hardly tear myself away from it. The setting is described so well, I could smell the peanuts and the fumes from the truck, and feel the waves of heat and humidity. Most of the characters were well-rounded and believable, with the possible exception of the antagonist, Mort. He seemed more like a caricature of an inbred redneck than an actual multidimensional person.
Beautifully written, often surprising, and very moving. I highly recommend it.

I thought the concept of the book was great but i found it difficult to follow. I usually consume 2-3 books a week but i gave up on this one with 100 pages remaining...

Starts out slow, with a lot of characters. Didn't take long to be hooked and I couldn't put it down.
