Every woman has that group of friends in her life ~ her "go to girls" The friends that she can turn to who "get it." The ones who are there for you no matter what. The ones who laugh with you and cry with you. The ones that will always be there. These are the women of Napa Valley.

Jamie is the editor-in-chief of Wine Lover's Magazine, a single mother and caretaker to her senile mother-in-law ~ a woman who thinks her daily caregiver is Dean Martin. Jamie is still recovering, financially and emotionally from the death of her husband several years earlier. And when she finds what could be the key to happiness, can she open the door and let it in? Or will her feelings of guilt and betrayal hold her back?

Danielle is a vintner and the divorced mom of two. She's basking in what she knows is going to be a successful launch of her new wines. Wines she created on her own after her divorce. But what she doesn't expect is for her daughter to come home with news that will shock her to her core. Will an old flame help her accept the changes that are coming and find the love she's been missing in her life for so long? Or will a tragedy that no one sees coming change their lives forever?

Kat is a sommelier, co-owner of a magnificent restaurant with her chef husband, and mother of a blended family. But is being deeply in love with your husband enough to get them through the teenage years, step-children and exes? And what happens when old faces return and she's faced with the knowledge that not everything is what you thought it was. What happens when she finds she was mad at the wrong person and finds out the "right one" was in the wrong? Can she forgive and move on? Can love overcome everything and truly bring a family together?

Alyssa is an artist and gallery owner with a secret of her own. One she was hoping would stay buried deep in her closet. But the time has come for her to put someone else first, to face the past and to deal with her demons. What she never expected to find was love and her "home."

No matter what is going on in their own lives, no matter the heartache or joy they're experiencing these four women are always there to love, support and encourage each other.

Editorial Reviews

Style, Substance, Soul
Get out the sunscreen – we’ve found the first beach read of the year! Happy Hour is the kind of novel we like to enjoy while lying in the sun with a frozen drink in our hand — but don’t wait for the temperature to rise: you’ll be as engrossed in the story even if you’re huddled under the covers with a cup of hot tea. It’s what we used to affectionately call chick lit – before the term developed a negative connotation – because we cou

    LOVED IT! Must Read!

This is a book that every woman can in some way relate to. It is about four friends working in Napa Valley. They get together on the weekend to have their own personal Happy Hour where they laugh, lean on each other and occasionally cry. They are all dealing with various issues from financial crises to aging parents, raising kids and dealing with careers, etc...I loved it. I laughed. I cried. I drank a glass of wine from the author's recommendations. I really enjoyed this book and plan to give copies to all of the women I love in my life! I am suggesting it for our next book club read.

    HAPPY HOUR by Michelle Scott

    Family, Friends, Faith

Every woman needs a group of friends like this.

Jamie is the Editor-in-Chief of a Wine Lovers magazine.
Kat is a Sommelier at a restaurant she owns with her husband.
Danielle is a Vintner of a fabulous new winery.
Alyssa is a Gallery Owner and artist.

Together they meet every other Sunday evening for Happy Hour, wine, food and conversation. They help each other through whatever crisis may arrive.

Kat's life is full of strife as she deals with her or her husband's ex, and the hard work it takes to make a blended family survive.

Jamie is dealing with the death of her husband and caring for her daughter while caring for her senile but wonderful mother-in-law and having the finances needed to do it all.

Danielle is divorced and has a daughter in college who is about to drop a "bombshell" and another in those "magnificent" teenage years.

Alyssa has a secret she has carried for many years and is trying to figure out if she should share it with her friends when something happens and she has no choice.

These woman grow to rely on each other as their lives face each hurdle. They offer each other strength, support and love, and sometimes tell each other what they don't want to hear. They hug, laugh and cry with each other. Can their friendships survive all that is in front of them? You'll have to read the book and find out.

This is a wonderful story of lasting friendships. This book is full of humor and tears, you will laugh and cry right along with them as they face the struggles life brings. Michelle Scott has the true gift of a great writer, her words take you into the lives of her characters and almost make you forget the world happening around you. This is a book every woman should read and savor with a class of fine wine.

    Not what I expected

So much heartbreak for these women, at times the book became depressing. It could have used more laugh out loud moments between the friends.

This book is a clear example of the power of friendship and how it can last throughout the years. You will laugh with them and you will cry with them. It's the story of true and lasting friendships. It's the type of friendships that every woman should experience and a story we can hopefully all relate to. A book that anyone with friends can not afford to not read.
