Meet the Author

Katherine Applegate's many books include the Roscoe Riley Rules chapter book series, the picture book The Buffalo Storm, and the award-winning novel Home of the Brave. With her husband, Michael Grant, she wrote the hugely popular series Animorphs, which has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide.

Katherine was inspired to write The One and Only Ivan after reading about the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, the Shopping Mall Gorilla. The real Ivan lived alone in a tiny cage for twenty-seven years in a Washington State shopping mall before being moved to Zoo Atlanta after a public outcry. He was a beloved celebrity at the zoo, which houses the nation's largest collection of western lowland gorillas. Ivan was well-known for his paintings, which he "signed" with a thumbprint.

Katherine lives in California with her husband and two children.

Everything Goes is a series of books written and illustrated by Brian Biggs. The first books in the series, Everything Goes: On Land and Everything Goes: In the Air, are a celebration of cars, trucks, motorcycles, planes, and other things that go!

Roscoe Riley Rules #2: Never Swipe a Bully's Bear

Chapter One

Welcome to Time-Out

Welcome to the Official Roscoe Riley Time-out Corner.

It's nice to have some company.

Getting stuck in time-out can be awfully boring.

Thing is, I got in a teensy bit of trouble. Again.

Even though I really, truly didn't mean to.

You know, it's hard for a guy like me to keep track of so many rules.

So I've started keeping a list.

This time I broke rule number 214: Do not kidnap your classmate's teddy bear.

And hide him in the dirty clothes basket.

Who knew?

You've bear-napped before, right?

Oh.

Bunny-napped? Pig-napped? Kangaroo-napped?

Oh.

Well, looking back, I guess it does seem like a bad idea.

But maybe you'll understand better if I tell you the whole story. . . .

    Great book for little boys

My son loves this series. Roscoe starts the book in trouble and the rest is the story of how he got there. It's a great "read to your kid" book

    I Also Recommend:

funny, easy to understand and teaches a lesson

My first grade son and I enjoyed this story. It is told from a first grade boy's perspective which is funny and entertaining. The interaction and dialogue between characters is believable. The ending is great because he decides to tell his father the truth and learns what it means to jump to conclusions. This is our first Roscoe Riley book. We are going to read Don't Tap-Dance on Your Teacher next.

    I Also Recommend:

My 6 yr old son and his class love this series!!!

This entire series is fantastic!!! This is one of my favorites, but I truly like them all. This was recommended by the librarian in Barnes and Noble who deals with kids books. She said it was funny and kids loved it. Well was she right! We ended up buying all 8 books (wish there were more!) and then we shared it with his Kindergarten class. While most kids and Kindergarten can't read at this level, they certainly love to have it read to them. The Kindergarten teacher has been reading them to his class as an introduction to chapter books. Now chapter books are everyone's favorite. Roscoe Riley is loved by girls and boys!!
