Overview

Gideon is more than a hit man. In a world of money, violence, women, and love on the run, he's the master of the game. Now Gideon's got the job of a lifetime. The prize is the woman he desires and a cool million. The problem is it's just the kind of hit that can make him more enemies. Like the two beautiful strangers on Gideon's tail. Are they there to protect him or bring him down? There's one way to find out. Follow them into an underworld where killers and victims alike thrive on the darker passions of revenge and desire.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

After a brutal hit in Tampa on high-profile rapper Big Bad Wolf, contract killer Gideon, the star of this fast-paced thriller from bestseller Dickey, jets to London for his next assignment. On the plane, paranoia brewing just beneath his poker face keeps him wary of two mysterious passengers who could be either harmless squares or hired guns out to avenge Big Bad Wolf's murder. This constant uncertainty over who's in the game and who isn't keeps Gideon—and readers—on edge as Gideon navigates London's underworld and pursues a personal vendetta. Dickey occasionally shifts away from Gideon's point of view to that of another hit man who has just received his next contract: Gideon. The plot is taut, fast and bold—total blockbuster entertainment, replete with an abundance of sex, violence and James Bond touches. A tense cliffhanger caps a wild ride. The next installment is due in August, which for many readers won't be soon enough. (Apr.)

Meet the Author

Eric Jerome Dickey
Eric Jerome Dickey

Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Eric Jerome Dickey is the author of thirteen novels, including the New York Times bestsellers Chasing Destiny, Genevieve, Drive Me Crazy, The Other Woman, Thieves' Paradise, Between Lovers, and Liar's Game. His novel Naughty or Nice has been optioned by Lions Gate Films.

Biography

Eric Jerome Dickey was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended the University of Memphis (the former Memphis State), where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and earned a degree in computer system technology. In 1983, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in engineering.

After landing a job in the aerospace industry working as a software developer, Dickey's artistic talents surfaced, inspiring him to become an actor and a stand-up comedian. He soon began working the local and national comedy circuit. In the early 1990s the aerospace industry took a downward turn and Dickey found himself "downsized," but took this as an opportunity to embark on a writing career.

Having written several scripts for his personal comedy act, Dickey started writing poetry and short stories. He joined the IBWA (International Black Writers and Artists), participated in their development workshops, and became a recipient of the IBWA SEED Scholarship to attend UCLA's creative writing classes. In 1994 his first published short story, "Thirteen," appeared in the IBWA's River Crossing, Voices of the Diaspora: An Anthology of the International Black Experience. A second short story, "Days Gone By," was published in the magazine A Place to Enter.

With those successes behind him, Dickey decided to fine-tune some of his earlier work and developed a screenplay called Cappuccino. Cappuccino was directed and produced by Craig Ross Jr. and appeared in coffeehouses around the Los Angeles area. In February 1998, Cappuccino made its local debut during the Pan African Film Festival at the Magic Johnson Theater in Los Angeles and is currently on the film festival circuit.

Dickey's book-signing tours for Sister, Sister, Friends and Lovers, and Milk in My Coffee took him coast to coast and helped propel these novels to No. 1 on the Blackboard bestsellers List. His books have been featured in many publications, including Essence magazine and USA Today, and have appeared on the bestseller lists of The Los Angeles Times, Blackboard, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Dickey has appeared as a guest on many television shows, including BET's Our Voices and CNN's Sunday Morning Live.

    Buy BOTH!

This book is so intense and well written, I found myself tearing to the store to buy the sequel. Save yourself the time and buy Waking With Enemies, too. You won't be disappointed. I must say, EJD has really stepped up his game.

Man I couldn't put this book down. It was everything you hope for in a EJD book! The suspense and the love scenes are incredible and I couldn't wait until the sequel came out to finish this story. Excellent work! This is a must have for all collectors and even the non.

    Good til' the last drop

After reading Sleeping with Strangers (SwS) I needed to get a refill - meaning I'm definitely excited about reading the next episode of Gideon. The book is superb how it allows readers to thrist for the name of the Fox. EJD expressed his talents in this one. SwS was a mystery, love story, drama, informative and definitely spellbinding.

OMG!! This guy has done it again. Not only has he mixed violence and sex, but he did it in my hometown!!! Tampa!!! I met EJD in 2006 I didn't know he was writing SWS then. But now I know why he was late to the book signing of Chasing Destiny. He was hanging out at the Mons Venus...LOL...I don't blame you bro. SWS is what we've come to expect from this guy. A must read if you're a fan. If you're just getting started you need to go back to Thieve's Paradise, let that Drive You(Me) Crazy, then and only then are you worthy to Sleep With Strangers...

This Book Is Not Worth The Money

This book sucks! It's too slow, too wordy & too many unnecessary details. I bought this book along with the sequel & I am pissed because I can't even finish part 1, so I really don't know if I will be able to read part 2. I am so ferious with myself because I threw away my receipts & now I can't get my money back. Shame on you Eric Jerome Dickey for writing such a boring book. If you plan on purchasing this book, please read the first two chapters in the store before buying it.

All that and a bag of chips!

"Sleeping With Strangers" was the first book I read by Eric Jerome Dickey and it will not be the last. The book was so unbelievably good I had to go back to previous books and read those as well to believe a man could right such a spectacular work. I was trapped within the pages of this book until the end and love the following books as well. All the books deserve a standing ovation!

I Never Put The Book Down!

Eric has out done himself once again. I absolutely love his work. He is an amazing writer. This book had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. I think I finished the book in three days! I can't wait to read the next two Gideon series.

    Dangerous

Gideon is a contracted assassin who is caught up in a bit of a dilemma. When the hunter becomes the hunted things become complicated. In his company are two women who he met on a plane that makes his lonely nights anything but.

With the sexy sophistication of a James Bond movie, Gideon is top notch all the way. Being an assassin doesn't steel his heart. After nearly escaping with his life on a number of occasions, he allows the Detroit contractor live to see another day. I'm cracking open Waking with Enemies today, I think Gideon's problems with Detroit are only going to get worse. A nonstop action must read!
