What this book did for me!

In 1968, I was in the Seattle Airport waiting to go to Alaska to work in the oil field. I was 21 year old, had two children in Texas. I had a high school education, which is still the only formal education me or my wife have every received. I was broke and my only prospects were working in the oil field the rest of my life. I bought two books that day that changed my life. Think and Grow Rich; and How to Win Friends and Influence People. Over the next year working in weather down to 70 below zero my life changed from the information I received from these two books. I was no longer on a road to nowhere. I had a goal. We goal now was to have a well round life and become a millionaire.
I am 62 years old now. My Net Worth is around 10 million dollars. I am currently an investor. I owe three companies that others run for me. I own the real estate that these companies sat on. My office is in my home. I average working about one hour a day before I go to the golf course.
My wife works about an hour per day at her office in our house. We choose to spend that time checking on our businesses. My wife plays tennis most every day. We vacation 6 or 8 times a year. We have been married 43 years. Our family life is great. Last week we took our children and grand children to Disney World for a week. Life for us is very very good.
If I had stayed on the path I was headed in, I would be lucky to be alive. Working in the oil field in Alaska's North Slope was very dangerous. My family life was not all that good when I read these two books.
I encourage you to read these two books at least three times each and apply the principles they give you. These books changed my life to one of great happiness and prosperity. I hope they do the same for you.

A Book from the Past Made to Order for Our Time

Think and Grow Rich: The Complete Classic Text [the original version of the book copyrighted 1937] is a gift from the publisher to fans of Napoleon Hill's teachings and writings. I had read the 1960 Copyright version literally 12 times cover to cover, and I also have read Think and Grow Rich: The 21st-Century Edition. It was a treat to read the original version, written back in the midst of the Great Depression, and with hints/signs of a recovery in the air [applicable to our own times in 2008-2009]. To Napoleon Hill, a Positive Mental Attitude and thought control of one's own mind by will-power are all-important to personal success. The six-step dynamic plan to convert desire for riches into their financial equivalent on pages 26-27 is alone worth the price of this landmark book, and can be used for any goal, financial or otherwise.

    Bunk

I was highly disappointed when I read this book. Napoleon Hill is dead on on some very obvious and commonsensical things but way off on tons of others. Yes, autosuggestion & visualizing your outcomes are good exercises but are common sense for most people unless you have super low self-esteem. Nothing new here. Tips on how to write a resume and apply for a job are helpful to the would-be job applicant, but that isn¿t why you bought this book. My biggest bone of contention is due to the metaphysical/new-age overtones throughout the book. Napoleon Hill espouses a concept called ¿infinite intelligence,¿ but never defines it. It is something more like an omnipresent god-force or life force. This is total hogwash, and won¿t solve any MAJOR problems. You don¿t hear of scientists tapping into ¿infinite intelligence¿ to seek out a cure for cancer. How come I can't tap into this mysterious force, to say, tell me the winning lotto numbers or pick winning stocks? Maybe because it is total nonsense. Hill also commits the sunk cost fallacy in the story he tells where somebody stopped digging just three feet short from striking gold. While I see his point that many times just a little more effort will result in a sizeable payoff, sometimes one must know when to stop a futile endeavor. Hill advocates being persistent, but says nothing about how to identify situations when it should be stopped and a new goal should be sought. Hill is a strong advocate of positive thinking. Who isn¿t? Did I have to read this book to find out that it is better to think positively than negatively? No way. While positive thinking is good for many things, it cannot cure Parkinson's Disease or Alzheimer¿s. Napoleon Hill says you can be anything you want to be. Total bunk. If this is true, why didn't he become the next Carnigee or Rockefeller? Does this statement not apply to him, and if it doesn't apply to him, why should it apply to others? Hill also commits the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, which is ¿Someone did x to become successful, therefore x caused their success.¿ You can't use an example of one person who achieved sucess against tremendous odds and say that therefore anyone can surmount these odds. We hear of the few who are successful against the odds but not of the many who fail. That is how the real world works. Not everyone can be a Bill Gates or a Micheal Jordan. Hill mentions nothing about realistically assessing your skillsets against your goals. He just says go for it. That is stupid. Better advice is to try lowering your standards a bit and you will find you can achieve your goals much easier. Maybe you can¿t build a huge software corporation but you can have a thriving small consulting firm. I don't care how positive you are, there's some things you can't do because of lack of competency. That¿s the sober truth, and it won't sell books.

Napoleon Hill has left his inspirational mark!

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, is one of the most inspirational books I've ever read. Napoleon Hill has left his mark on this planet that can never be erased. To this day, he delivers an important message to all that's so powerful and when used correctly, it will guide anyone to obtain nothing but great success. Imagine, having the power to deflect all negative energy by learning to utilize all positive energies, in all areas of your life. Think and Grow Rich, is captivating and enriches your mind by introducing you to recognize your strengths through understanding your weaknesses. Riding your fears and strengthening your subconscious mind is key into becoming the best person that you can be. Understanding the importance of having a great sense of strong values and morals benefit your life in many ways and are essential in keeping your mind fit for life. This book is empowering and will hand you a motivational key to jump start your engine in your life's goals. It did for me! Think and Grow Rich, reminds us to always have goals in life and to never give up on working towards them. Like Mr. Hill mentions time and time again, have a main purpose in life, know what that purpose is, and do this by finding that burning desire deep down inside, that desire you feel you must share with the world. Think and Grow Rich, remains the one book that delivers this strong message and applying the principals taught in this book will only bring rewarding experiences and help you reach any goal or dream you want in life.

    The Original True Classic

This is one of the greatest self-help books ever, back in the the original 1937 text. Next to the Bible, this is my favorite book. I was introduced to Think and Grow Rich when I read former world champion and International Boxing Hall of Famer Ken Norton's autobiography entitled 'Going the Distance.' Norton shared in his book that he read Think & Grow Rich repeatedly and it changed his life. Norton's book states he was given Think & Grow Rich to read after he suffered his first boxing defeat and had to start over. Norton then went on a fourteen fight winning streak that lasted over three years, including a huge upset over Muhammed Ali for the heavyweight title. This is an outstanding book that embodies Andrew Carnigie's philosophy of achievement to help individuals reach their full potential and succeed. Think and Grow Rich is one of the all time greats.

There are some very helpful recommendations in this book such as visualizing and affirming your success. A positive attitude is considered almighty. But written later, two excellent books, Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman explains the advantages and disadvantages of pessimism and optimism and Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self shows you how to make the most of your thinking, any situation, your life and career. I would read all three books.

    This version is obsolete, tired

This version of 'Think and Grow Rich' by Napoleon Hill is antiquated and obsolete. It contains numerous errors. It contains language and phrases that are sexist and racially offensive. It contains ideas, specifically concerning scientific matters, that are just plain wrong and no longer valid. There are a couple of good editions of 'Think and Grow Rich' available. Either of them is preferable to this old and tired one.

This man knows what it takes to succeed.

Napoleon Hill was a consultant living in the White House when FDR was leading the nation through the Great Depression. It was while he was in the White House that Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich. More than twenty years before, Hill was commissioned by the richest man in the world at the time, Andrew Carnegie, to research and develop a philosophy of success so that every person didn't have to learn through the hard process of trial and error every time. Carnegie thought it was a shame that the accumulated know-how of each successful man went the grave with him. Carnegie gave Hill letters of introduction to five hundred of the most successful people in the country - Henry Ford, John Wanamaker, Thomas Edison, and the list goes on - and Hill interviewed these men extensively, sometimes living with them for a time. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I am an expert on what is effective. The principles Hill put in Think and Grow Rich will definitely help you become successful.

One of the Greatest Books in History

I cannot say enough about how the principles in this book have literally changed my life. Mr. Hill has helped me open my mind and begin thinking and acting in ways that are beyond the space alloted here. Any of my friends or business acquaintances who have read this book have all experienced positive changes when the parctice what is in the book. It is best to read it through first. I know you will want to stop all the time. Have a pad and pen with you for the second reading. The ideas and inspiration can be overwhelming. I also purchased it on Audio CD and listen to is while driving; along with some of his other works. I can never go back and I don't wish to either. It will change your life for the better if you follow through with whatever happens when you read it.

Information Worth It's Weight In Gold

I purchased the book "Think & Grow Rich" months ago. I decided to order the cd set to listen to in my car. Listening to the cd helped me absorb all of the information supplied in the book. I have listened to it at least three times and hear something new each time. I loaned it to my sister recently for a trip she had planned. She called me as soon as she arrived at her destination to tell me how much she had learned. I also ordered it for one of my best friends for Christmas.

    A Good Visual

The thirteen steps presented by Mr. Hill are to the point and very honest. His book is not some egotistical scam for our money, thank goodness. I should think that any one who is supposedly 'down on his luck' needs to purchase this book and maybe redirect his steps.

Great Old Read - Words For Today

It boils down to keeping your eye on the prize. No matter what level of education you have, learn from the setbacks and keep moving towards the brass ring. This is a pretty enjoyable read written in an era when writing was full bodied.

    Groundbreaking

This is the foundation for any reading about success and achievement. Reading one chapter per day to mull over and internalize what is being said brings new direction and expands the mind. Despite the date of first printing, the lessons are timeless and can be used by all. A wise investment and one to be re-read numerous times.

Read this book ONLY if you...

...want to succeed in life and in business! This is a classic book. Before the so called "success gurus" around today. Napoleon Hill is the ORIGINAL success motivator. I've personally read the book Think And Grow Rich numerous times. I asked for (and received) the original CD of the book so that I could listen to and be inspired while I am driving. I can't imagine anyone listening to this CD and not being inspired! Mr. Hill's story is truly fascinating. If you've never read the book...you need to own the book AND the CD! Surround yourself with his teachings! And do yourself a favor...stick with the original recording. The 21st Century version is okay...but doesn't beat the original. http://www.facebook.com/photographybyski
