Be Creative... The information and techniques in this book can be applied to many different life challenges

I was introduced to the material in this book in it's early drafts. Now that the book is out... WOW! As a therapist, I have used this material to help people through the death of loved one, divorce, and even the trauma of rape. I have never been disappointed with the results that I see after using these techniques. It's as if the weight of the world is lifted off a person's shoulders at the end. I highly recommend this book to those of you wanting to overcome loss, grief, or trauma as well as to those people who are in the great position to help others do the same.

'When Time Doesn't Heal' You Need Help Fast - Try This Approach - This Could Be the Difference

Alfonso Fillon, MPA - 35 Year Career Prison Administrator - In my opinion, Dr. Nichol's Book offers a new and innovative perspective on dealing with grief, personal disappointment or just life experiences that you would like to get behind you. Useable information and techniques offered for the individual or the behavioral treatment specialist, this book offers a road map, reasoning and logic that is likely to produce surprising results. Perhaps the title of the book can lead one to believe that it is 'too good to be true' (you don't get something for nothing); especially if you've paid street prices for 'professional' therapy and counseling or have spent a lot of time praying about the issue or on the bar stool and still have lingering 'issues'. Reading the book and digesting the theories will take some time and is no '30 minute or less' proposition. However, in my experience in the people business, reality is we sometimes carry baggage around that gets in the way of going on with our life. We assume that it will take too much time and money to get to the root of our grief and disappointment and be able to shelve it; so - we don't! I personally believe that the techniques provided in this book can help even one in despair to get those detrimental experiences behind them and let them get on with life - 'like now' and with personal commitment, start a new beginning!

    M. L. Nichols. When Time Doesn't Heal: How to Overcome Loss, Grief, Trauma and PTSD in 30 Minutes or Less. Bloomington: 1stBooks. 2004

    M. L. Nichols, whose credentials include a Doctor of Ministry degree and certifications in hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming, has used his experience working as a U.S. Navy Chaplain and a chaplain for the California state prison system to create a program to radically reduce the long-term negative emotional impact of various types of trauma. The author recognizes the place for legitimate grief and the different amounts of time required by many to overcome the grief response. The death of his mother, however, led him to query whether the legitimate grief process can be hastened and whether long-term grief can be reduced or eliminated. He developed a series of techniques that led him to answer with a resounding ¿Yes!¿ I have read various drafts of this book and have used most of the techniques on myself and in helping others through the grief process. In short¿the process works! Whether one is looking for a self-help book to assist in overcoming an emotional loss or a variety of techniques to help others go through the healing process, this book has many gems to offer. While the techniques are designed to only take a few minutes to administer, learning them properly will take a while longer. The basic technique described on pages 12-25 provides in easy to understand language ¿how to¿ steps that anyone can use with immediate improvement. The rest of the book merely elaborates on subtle ways the process can be improved. While the rest of the book is not written from a technical perspective, Nichols writes using hypnotic language patterns similar to that which he uses helping clients during a live demonstration. His desire evidently is not only to model ¿the language of change,¿ but also to facilitate his readers¿ healing process as they work through the book. His writing is also laced with jargon found in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, in which the casual reader may not be accustomed. Nichols does, however, provide a glossary of terms in the back of the book. As I was working through the book I found myself wishing that Dr. Nichols included illustrations with his book, facilitating a quicker understanding and utilization of his concepts. In this book Dr. Nichols gives us much more than a ¿quick fix¿ formula for working through painful emotions and memories. He helps the reader apply a new way of thinking and relating to others. One may argue with his claims or his presentation style. Others may prefer a ¿smoother¿ reading book. Most will not discover, however, more quick life transforming techniques than found in this self-help tome. Robbie ¿Hal¿ Scott, Ph.D., Chaplain
