Christine Feehan’s Power Game is a Passionate Romance

The newest novel in Christine Feehan’s GhostWalkers series, Power Game, has it all: high-stakes political intrigue, paranormal intensity, and toe-curling romance.
The GhostWalkers are an elite, almost invisible group of soldiers marked by genetic enhancement; their abilities allow them to kill without mercy in the name of protecting the innocent. But what happens when protecting the innocent can endanger the people you love most?
Bellisia is a genetically-enhanced spy who witnesses a United States Senator engaging in treason by selling out a team of GhostWalkers. Her cover blown and her life at risk thanks to a virus the mastermind behind the GhostWalkers, Dr. Whitney, has implanted in her system, which will kill her if she does not return to base in time, Bellisia narrowly escapes with her life. She travels to the swampy bayou fortress to warn the team sold out by the Senator: they are being targeted, and their next mission is a trap.
But of course, it becomes difficult for Bellisia to keep her head clear and her mind on her mission—which is first and foremost staying alive, with Dr. Whitney AND the US Government trying to kill her—when she meets Ezekiel Fortunes, a member of the GhostWalkers…and the man Dr. Whitney always intended for her to partner with, as their DNA has been engineered to compliment one another. Bellisia is a soldier, too: she has survived a war inside of herself, the one that made her believe she would never find true love, or a family, and would instead die a pawn in Dr. Whitney’s game. But falling for Ezekial shows her that she wants more to her life—and that she is willing to fight, and perhaps still die anyway, to get it.

Feehan balances the military drama of hostage rescue with just the right amount of hot romance. Ezekiel is a powerful machine of a man, drawn equally to Bellisia’s strength as he is to her vulnerability. Feehan also manages to explore the complexities of their upbringings and families and create memorable side characters (some who make cameos from previous installments of the series). Impressively, the central conspiracy does not take a backseat to the romance; instead, like Ezekiel and Bellisia, they seek to find balance together, making for a genuinely interesting read as the mystery unfolds.
Sexy spies and soldiers in a southern setting may be a mouthful, but that’s exactly what you get in Power Game, and you’ll enjoy every page.
