Greek Mythology Retellings Worthy of the Gods

Love affairs, betrayal, family rivalries, murder. I’m not talking about the latest CW primetime drama, I’m talking about the OG masters of scandal, the pantheon of Greek gods and goddesses. If legends are to be believed, these guys didn’t know how to lead a boring life. It seems like in every tale someone is either lusting after someone, scheming about how to gain power, or just causing general chaos in the lives of their human worshippers. I wouldn’t want to have to answer to such capricious gods, but their shenanigans are definitely fun to read about. YA authors know that the gods provide plenty of material for some juicy stories, and these retellings are funny, dark, and sexy, covering everything from gorgons to muses to the gods themselves, with a few mythical heroes thrown in for variety. (Plus, there are swoon-worthy godly characters, aplenty.)

Abandon, by Meg Cabot
Pierce nearly dies in an accident, but manages to escape the Underworld and return to the land of the living. But a certain someone isn’t happy about that, and won’t leave her alone until he brings her back to where she belongs. It doesn’t help that this someone happens to be dark, hot, and brooding, and Pierce isn’t sure if she should really be running away or staying put. Meg Cabot, queen of YA, tries her hand at a mythological love story, and I fully approve.
