YA-Inspired Cosplay We Want to See at Comic-Con

Adam, Ronan, Noah, and GANSEY! (The Raven Boys, by Maggie Stiefvater)
Gansey and co. are just your average private school boys who happen to spend their free time tracking down dead Welsh kings with the help of the local psychic’s daughter, Blue. And boy, do we love them for their dream-thieving antics. Please, please, please, someone do this. Not only would it be an epic foursome (five, if you add in Blue), but also an easy one—just grab some grey sweaters and striped ties, convince one of your friends to shave their head and glare a lot, show up in a half-functional car, and you’re good to go! Bonus points: bring an actual raven and an aversion to hornets.

Simon and Baz (Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell)
It’s a testament to the awesomeness of Rainbow Rowell that we’re just as attached to her fictional-fictional characters as we are to the merely fictional ones. And since we’re eagerly awaiting the release of Carry On, we would sacrifice (almost) anything to get a glimpse of Simon and Baz IRL. The best part is, you can finally repurpose that Draco Malfoy costume you’ve been re-wearing for the past 5 years; just tell everyone you and your vampiric friend go to Watford, not Hogwarts. Of course, it’d be much easier to cosplay Levi: just grab a plaid shirt, a latte, and a Carhartt jacket.

Celaena (Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas)
Celaena Sardothien is as badass as they come, and who doesn’t love a top-notch assassin who can alternate between lacy frills and black leather? The blond hair! The super cool swords! The boots! We’re 98% sure we could all use another hardcore heroine at Comic-Con, and really, all you have to do is dress in all black and you could be any assassin you want. (But you want to be Celaena. Trust us. Any girl who’s got time to stop and read books in between fighting for her life is a girl you want to be.)

Seraphina (Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman)
Seraphina is another one of those awesome heroines we’d love to meet in person. She breaks down cultural barriers, stops wars, and handles relationship drama like one hell of a classy dame. And with all the dedicated fans out there, we’re sure someone will take the time to paint on the silver scales of our favorite music-playing half-dragon. Besides, who doesn’t want to be a half dragon? Bonus points: gather together enough friends to cosplay Seraphina’s entire garden of misfits.

Karou (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, by Laini Taylor)
We’ve got two words for you: blue hair. If that’s not enough to make you want to be Karou, well, we might not be able to be friends. (Just kidding. We can totally still be friends.) But seriously, Karou is amazing: she’s just a regular student, trying to figure out her way in the world…except her way happens to include chimera, angels, and devils. Since Karou tends to wear normal clothes like jeans, all you need is the blue hair and the tattoos—particularly the hamsas on her palms.

Nimona (Nimona, by Noelle Stevenson)
Nimona. Oh, Nimona. She’s just a regular supervillain’s sidekick…or is she? With all those shapeshifting abilities (and her propensity for destruction and mayhem), it’s hard to tell—especially for Ballister and Goldenloin. With all the armor, mechanical arms, and pink tails, we’d love to see the entire cast of Nimona at Comic-Con, but we’ll settle for just Nimona in any of her many physical appearances. Especially this one. Or this one. Bonus points: wear a giant shark head and yell, “I’m a shark!”
