Anne McAllister is the queen of the cowboy book, and her modern westerns are practically a genre of their own. Each of her hard ridin¿ heroes is special, but the hero of A COWBOY¿S SECRET is vulnerable in an unusual way that will probably take you by surprise. The woman who loves him has a mountain to climb before she can get him to open his heart to her, and the result is a really poignant love story with an extra `magic¿ ingredient.
I have loved all the Code of the West books, but I particularly like J.D. Holt, the hero of A COWBOY'S SECRET. He's a man with a past -- and hopes for the future. He wants to buy back his family's ranch. He thinks he can -- he's got a promise from Trey Phillips that he will sell to J.D. Then all of a sudden Trey sells to someone else! J.D. is furious -- and rightly so. At least that's the way it seems at first glance. J.D. has a lot of secrets. And a lot of pride. He has to come to terms with them all -- and Lydia, the woman who has bought his ranch. It was fun -- and moving -- to watch him do so. Loved this book!
