First off, let me say this is not a novel so stop complaining about its length. It is, as advertised, a short story. The story may only be 78 pages but it is totally worth the three bucks. Briggs actually wrote this story before begining the Alpha and Omega series. It prequels the series and tells how Anna and Charles (the main characters) met. Anna, who is an Omega wolf is lving in the Chicago pack and being physically, sexually and mentally abused. One day she see's a boy's picture in the paper telling about his disappearance. She recognizes the boy because a member of her pack took him. So, Anna calls The Marrok (leader/commander of of the wolves)and he sends over his second in command/executioner Charles. Charles is also The Marrok's youngest son. Anyway, when he first meets her, his wolf immediately recgonzies her as his mate. Briggs writes this part very well. Charles's wolf knows Anna is his mate but Charles's human part, though very attracted to Anna, has a little 'catching up' to do. Charles and Anna investigate the missing boy, try to find out what happen, etc. Meanwhile, Charles investigates what is up with the Chicago pack because something is very wrong. The pack leader didn't file reports when some of his wolves died or went missing, etc. The story mainly focuses on Anna and Charles' romance/mating. But, the missing boy and other stuff make the story all more suspenseful and exciting. I know, I know, that's alot of stuff to be happening in such a short story but believe me; Patricia Briggs does an amazing job. The story was wonderfully written, the characters were fascinating and insightful. Great story I highly recommend it. Try reading the prequel then the series. The first book of the series, Cry Wolf, picks up exactly where the short story left off. So that was pretty cool. But if you have read the other books first, that's cool too. I did, well because, I didn't find out about the prequel to after...Great story! Enjoy! :))

This short story is worth every penny you'll spend on it. It is the start to a series by the same name and is fantastic. It inertwines with the author's other series, Mercy Thompson, enough to give you a sense of famliarity with what's going on. This is a very good read and if you like werewolves and verious other fantisical creatures, you should read it as soon as possible.

This is one of the best series I have read in a long time. Have read the Novella and the two books after it three times and enjoyed them immensely each time. So happy the third book is coming out while I am on vacation so I won,t have to read in pieces.

This was great, especially considering that it is a short story. I have read the all of the Mercy Thompson books, so know a bit about Charles and Anna, but I am just starting their series. It was great to learn how they met and to get much better acquainted with them. I thought they were both wonderful characters, and I enjoyed the storyline. I'm looking forward to seeing where the next books take them. Anna Latham was turned into a Werewolf against her will. She has been treated very poorly by her pack, and she is made to feel like a submissive and worthless wolf. When she reads an alarming news article that she knows connects to her pack, she contacts Bran "The Marrok" Cornick, the leader of the North American werewolves. Bran sends his son, Charles, to investigate the goings on in Anna's Chicago pack. When Charles meets Anna, he is immediately drawn to her, and knows his wolf has selected her as his mate. Charles recognizes Anna as a rare Omega wolf, not a submissive. He is appalled and angered at how she has been treated by her pack, and they begin to get to know and care for one another as they try to unravel the secrets and misdeeds of the pack. I loved this one! Charles and Anna are both great, and I really enjoyed the way this story picked up right as Moon Called ended. I loved the interaction between Charles and Anna, and I appreciated the way that Bran was so accepting of Charles' quick attachment to her. As a fan of the Mercy Thompson Series, I have been looking forward to reading the Alpha & Omega books, and after this short story, I am even more thrilled to read them.

I'm new to Patricia Briggs and was looking into getting the first book of the series then saw everyone talking about this "short story" and thought that would be nice to see if I like her first, lets just say I loved it! and will def be buying the others in this series.

I bought and downloaded this book to my nook. I was all set to read the novella when I opened it up on the nook to find out that it was really "Alpha and Omega: The Search for the Beginning and End of the Universe" by Charles Seife. Oh my! Ready to read about werewolves and to have a cosmology book thrust upon me, how rude! Had to call and get a form submitted for review of the content, try to get a refund, and who knows when the correct book will be back for download in the future. Hope others don't get caught in this trap!

This is basically the first couple of chapters in Cry Wolf. You will be paying twice for the same chapters. I like the story in Cry Wolf --not too happy to realize I am re-reading the same chapters I just paid $2.99 for.

For having read the Mercy books first, and then turning to the Alpha and Omega series, the transition was somewhat difficult. Anna took a long time to come around (and she's still coming around as I read Hunting Ground) but I think that her character is believable. She was beaten down to believe that she was submissive, although she was a rare and wonderful gift to the wolf world - Omega. And as Charles (Sam's brother, another Alpha) encounters this Omega, you see a transition in the stoic leader and assassin for the Marrock.

In this novella, Anna Latham is a three year old werewolf. She works at a restaurant and is barely making ends meet. When a boy is kidnapped, Anna fears that her pack¿s behavior will bring attention to werewolves, which is forbidden by rules. Anna decides to risk her alpha¿s ire and the Marrok, the Werewolf Overlord, to report the crime. The Marrock sends his right man, his son Charles Cornick, to investigate the situation. When Charles meets Anna, they connect immediate because his inner wolf (brother wolf) recognizes Anna as a rare type of werewolf¿An Omega. An Omega wolf is a wolf that is outside of the pack structure because they are neither alpha nor submissive. They provide a calming influence to the other wolves. Omegas also inspire a need for protection in other alpha wolves.Anyway, when Anna, meets Charles, the Marrok¿s enforcer, she was terrified. Charles was a dominant alpha wolf and she has been brutalized by alphas for so long. Charles¿s wolf desires to take Anna as a mate and she agrees because she feels safe with him. Anna helps Charles figure out the secret dealings of this pack and sets off to begin a new phase of her life, as Charles Cornick¿s mate.

Patricia Briggs brings her characters to life. The story is set with the idea that all our storybook creatures are well and alive living side by side with you

Sha has not written anything I have not liked. I have all her books and this one has joined the ranks also. One of the few authors I watch closely for the next book!

I love Mercy books, but this series is so good. While Mercy's books are 1st person, these are 3rd person. I love the growth in the relationship Charles & Anna
