Overview

He's known as Father Anton to his teammates—the brooding, sexy captain of the NHL's Chicago Blaze has a reputation for...not having a reputation. Just like his diet and sleep routines, celibacy is part of Anton Petrov's on-ice mojo. Or so they say. Anton stays mum on the subject. If the world thinks he chooses to abstain from sex, so be it. Better that than the truth getting out: there is a woman he burns for, but he can never have her. She's his teammate's wife, after all.
Mia Marceau is finally on her own. Now that she and her husband are living apart, she's finding the peace she was desperate for. She spends her days in classes and late nights bartending, making her own way in the world at last. After what she's been through, as long as her husband leaves her alone, she doesn't plan to rock the boat. He still has the power to hurt those dearest to her, and she can't demand a divorce with such a high cost.
A chance encounter with Mia has Anton hoping for a shot he never thought he'd get. And while she's drawn to the intense, serious hockey center, Mia's leery about playing with fire. That's all Anton has ever known for Mia, though—a living, burning desire that won't be denied—no matter the cost.

I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Anton. This was one of the best books I have read from Brenda Rothert and that is saying something as I love her writing style. Anton Petrov is the captain of the NHL’s Chicago Blaze has a reputation for being rather aloof and a little brooding. Little do people know that he has been in love with a team mates’ wife for several years. However being a man of integrity, he has made no moves or indicated his feelings; he remains alone. Mia Marceau is finally away from her bullying soon to be ex husband Adam who is a player for the Chicago Blaze. I admit right here that I wanted to deck Adam and call him out on his hideous behaviour towards Mia. I really loved Mia, a woman who has cowered in the past but who with the love of a good man and the building up of her shattered confidence emerges to take on the world. This was at times an emotional roller coaster of a read as Anton and Mia fought the rocky path towards their happily ever after. The secondary characters were fabulous and I adored Uncle Dix, a man who I bet got up to a lot of mischief in his younger days. I laughed, I cried but throughout it all I loved Mia and Anton, both separately and together. I was anxious that they would get the chance together that they both so richly deserved. Not going to say anymore other than do yourselves a favour and one click this one on release. You won’t be disappointed and I cannot wait to read more in this series.

What a great start to the new Chicago Blaze Series from Brenda Rothert. You know you are reading a great book when you struggle to put it down and when you wake up a couple of hours later thinking I need to finish that book I need to know if Anton and Mia get the HEA they so deserve. I really don’t want to give too much of the story away because I think you will get the best from this book without knowing the full story what I will say is If you love Sports theme romance this is a must read if you love romance this is a must read, what I’m really trying to say is this is a must read....... Once again this very talented author has given us characters we will swoon over, characters we will laugh with and not at as well as a story we will not want to end. Anton and Mia are the most adorable couple with many obstacles to cross on their path to true love and I have to say Brenda Rothert has given us a love story that’s beautifully written and full of compassion. I’m hoping the next book in this series is Anton’s twin brothers story (oh did I forget to mention that titbit earlier) .......

This is a 164 nook pages of good reading. Its filled with humor, heartache, some steamy romance, conflict, an just a wonderful book. Only thing I had a small problem with was some unanswered question. One her grandfather issue was kind of left hanging;two Adam....seemed more should have been done to him in my opinion. It did not take away from the story, just left me some questions when I finished. I also thought the ending was just a little bit rushed. With that being said, it was good read, an can not wait for Luca's story.****

Brenda Rothert can write a hockey romance like nobody's business, and, truly, the books in her FIRE ON ICE series are still some of my favorites of hers. Now, Brenda is giving us more hockey heroes to love with the release of ANTON, the first book in her new Chicago Blaze series. Anton is pretty much everything that a book boyfriend should be. Besides all the usual attributes, he's got to be one of the most loyal guys that I've seen, and Mia is one lucky lady. And, even though she's got a 'past,' she is fierce, and I really enjoyed seeing her grow into herself. These two are definitely poster children for #couplegoals, and their story is, by turn, sexy, affirming, and exciting. Fans of sports romance, fans of Brenda's books, and, heck, fans of sexy Russian skaters will love this book. And, lucky us, it's almost like there are two Antons, because his twin brother, Alexei, another sexy Russian hockey player, is getting his own book very soon. In the meantime, though, as an avowed Brenda fan, I say go out and get yourself a copy of this book. Anton's waiting, and he is not to be missed.

I loved Brenda Rothert’s Fire On Ice series, so it was a no brainer for me to dive into her newest hockey romance about Anton Petrov, captain of the Chicago Blaze and all-around good guy. Anton is an atypical professional athlete - one who his teammates call ‘Father Anton’ due to his strict regiment and clean living lifestyle. There’s a litany of reasons why Anton thrives on structure and routine, and while his teammates give him shit for how he chooses to live, there’s not much that can throw him off his game, except for maybe a certain beautiful woman who’s owned his heart and his body since he first met her almost three years ago. The problem with his feelings, though, is the fact that Mia Marceau belongs to another man, her husband of eight years, who just so happens to be one of Anton’s teammates. The life that Mia Marceau envisioned when she said ‘I do’ is definitely not the life she’s living; at 29 years old, she’s separated from her husband, working at a bar, and attempting to finish her degree all on her own with very little money. In her mind, the strong, confident, and independent woman she was is no longer present due to her estranged husband’s abuse and neglect and finding herself again, amidst the pain, the heartache, the self-doubt, and the bitterness is a battle, but it’s one that Anton is going to help make happen. The fact that Anton doesn’t cross the line while Mia is still married proves just how honorable he is and the way things play out between Anton and Mia - their friendship, their growing connection, his ability to know exactly what to do and say to make her see herself as he sees her - makes everything about him that much sweeter and it makes the payoff in the end everything I wanted and needed it to be. Anton’s Uncle Nix is a great secondary character. I love his interactions with Anton and his twin brother, Alexei, and as ornery and foul-mouthed Nix is, once Mia is in charge of his care, readers get to know the other side of Nix and how the bond he created with Mia helped them both. There are quite a few hockey hunks’ stories I’m eager to read, but the one I’m hoping to see soon is Anton’s brother. He needs to be put in check by a sassy and sweet heroine who gives as good as she gets! 4 Poison Apples

I am a fairly new reader to Brenda Rothert, but she has made me a fan! She has unique storylines and great characters, both stay with me long after I have read the last page. Anton and Mia know each other. After all, she is married to his teammate, Adam. Anton is the direct opposite of Adam...responsible and sweet. He takes his job as captain seriously. His biggest vice is he is in love with Mia, and he can never have her. He doesn’t mess around with other men’s wives. Anton has no idea that Mia has left Adam, and she is finally on the brink of having her independence from her cheating, abusive husband. One innocent, chance encounter between these two will possibly give them a chance at happiness, but it definitely won’t be an easy road. Please know this isn’t a novel about cheating. Anton and Mia have too much integrity for that. The two develop a friendship which is huge for Mia. She doesn’t trust easily after enduring years with Adam. Anton is everything Adam isn’t. He epitomizes “warmth, love, and joy.” He loves his family, and he is so patient with Mia. He also becomes her biggest champion. Mia doesn’t believe in herself much anymore. She is fierce, sassy, and trying to gain her independence again. Anton helps her find that belief in herself again. Like Anton, she is loyal and loving. She spreads joy to those around her, especially Anton’s grumpy but loveable Uncle Dix. If you are expecting a normal hockey romance, this one isn’t. It is much better!!!! There is definitely chemistry between both of them, but it isn’t the foundation of the story. The foundation of the book revolves around love...love between a couple, love of family, love of friendship, and love for your fellow man!!!! Rothert continues to amaze me with her storytelling ability. It’s somewhat outside of the box, and I LOVE it!!! I can’t wait to get stories from the other guys, especially Anton’s twin brother. I hope Mia’s friend, Anita, will get her HEA too!!!!

Brenda Rothert ANTON is an excellent start to the Chicago Blaze series. Anton Petrov is captain of the NHL’s Chicago Blaze. He is the poster boy for perfect behavior. He has secretly been lusting over his team mates’ wife, Mia Marceau. When he discovers that the two are separated, he finds it hard to resist her. I like Anton. He works hard. He always felt that he had to maintain a strict diet and workout routine to keep up with his naturally talented twin brother, Alexei, who is also in the NHL. He has a good heart, and he is patient. I love that he takes care of his biological and billet family. I like that Mia is a strong heroine who got out of an abusive marriage. As a result, her self-confidence has taken a hit. I appreciate that she regains her confidence throughout this story because of the things that take place. I love how Mia interacts with Anton’s uncle Dix. ANTON is a skillfully written and heartwarming read. There are relevant and believable obstacles that the characters face. This book sets an excellent foundation to the Chicago Blaze series. I look forward to the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

From the moment he first saw her at a team hosted event, hockey player Anton Petrov fell head over heels for Mia Marceau, she was gorgeous and made his heart skip a beat. But unfortunately there wasn't a dang thing he could do about his little crush because she belonged to one of his teammates. So for the last couple years he has kept his feelings a secret, and decided to wait for her, no matter how long it took. He knew it was just a matter of time before his team mate screwed up and lost her, and he wanted to be the one to help her pick up the pieces, and hopefully when the time was right, he would make his move. And hopefully win the heart of his girl... Mia Marceua is stuck between a rock and hard place, she is stuck being married to a jerk that doesn't appreciate her, or treat her well, but she doesn't have the means to divorce him. When things started to get really bad between them, she took her meager belongings and found a place to stay. But he doesn't seem to want to let her go, he's always pestering her, and reigning his dominance over her, and all she wants is for him to move on. She doesn't really have any friends to turn to for help, thanks to him, he has taken care of keeping her sheltered from the outside world. But that is all about to change when Anton Petrov comes skating in to her life... Between the pages of this superbly crafted book you will find a beautiful love story, albeit heart-wrenching at times, that will leave you deeply moved. If ever there were a character that needed a happily ever after, it was Mia, she had been dealt a crappy hand at life, and Anton was truly her savior. He came in, lifted her spirits, gave her a reason to believe, and renewed her faith in unconditional love. I just cannot say enough good things about this story, the words were heartfelt, and the characters were downright amazing, I loved every single second I spent with them! Ms. Rothert truly outdid herself with this one, it's got bestseller written all over it! I highly recommend you get your hands on this one, the words will squeeze your heart, and the characters will steal it! I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Anton Petrov, Captain of the Chicago Blaze hockey team, is known for his healthy eating habits, great work ethic, and celibate lifestyle. The first two are what he needs to be a great hockey player but the last is because once he met Mia Marceau he was spoiled for anyone else. Unfortunately, Mia is married to one of his teammates. When he fortuitously runs into Mia tending bar he finds out she and his teammate, while still married, are separated. Wanting to be in her life, even if they are only friends, he starts driving her home when she gets off work late at night and ultimately hires her as caretaker to his uncle. Their attraction catches fire yet she is still married and Anton doesn’t want to cross that line. Despite the beautiful cover model, Anton is a slow burn novel. Mia’s marriage creates a distance between the two of them and they are both so honorable that until her divorce they remain friends. I loved how their friendship was fully developed before the romance really started. Mia’s marital situation, unsurprisingly has a rather harsh reality so there is plenty of drama in this novel, but it’s balanced really nicely with some humor from Anton’s uncle who is a rather salty old soul. There were some interesting characters on Anton’s hockey team so if you’re a fan of these romances I think you’ll want to keep track of when the rest of these novels come out. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for you!

4 stars — I started this one late at night, and I had a HELL of a time putting it down, I was definitely compelled by the story and characters! I feel like there were pieces of this story that shined brilliantly, but also some bits that felt somewhat disjointed near the end… It was still good, I just lost the flow somewhat. Anton was 99% of the time a sweetheart. The 1% was honestly just the times where he didn’t understand Mia’s pushbacks/need for independence, but I do get that they had to grow with each other. I kind of loved when he explained why he was attracted to her, that it was beyond physical attraction (even though they didn’t know each other that well), and I really loved that his fascination with her meant he wasn’t interested in other women. Most of the time in unrequited love stories I find the one with the feelings tends to avoid commitment with others, but not sex. Which, I’m sure it’s like that for many people (and there’s nothing wrong with that). But as I can’t imagine sex with someone when you have feelings for someone else, it was nice to see it represented in book form for once. The thing that made Anton such a great hero is that he really tried so hard to not push his agenda on Mia. He didn’t want her to be a cheater either, and he respected that and tried to be a solid friend…which he was. I kind of felt like we missed a bit in his background with his family back in Russia though…I kept expecting us to get something more there, and we didn’t. Perhaps in Alexei’s book? As for Mia, WOW. I was not expecting her story. She had so much going on, at times it felt like too much (mostly near the end). That girl needed to catch a break. But I suppose that’s what Anton’s love for her was…the universe saying “my bad, here you go, we even right?” I found the abuse that she underwent from her husband to be disgusting, heart-wrenching, and eye-opening. I especially loved that through Mia the author tried to showcase the shame that many domestic abuse victims feel, and how it’s hard to accept that they shouldn’t feel ashamed. I really loved that she was this feisty, strong woman in so many situations, because it shows that it’s not “weak” women who find themselves in abusive relationships, it can be ANYONE. It’s not black & white. However, as someone who has not dealt with abuse personally, I can’t say how accurate/helpful this portrayal was…it felt respectful, but what do I know? I really loved that we got to see Mia and Anton develop a friendship first. And that while you could feel the undercurrents in their relationship, you could feel how much they cared for one another regardless of attraction. There were a lot of great secondary characters in this story as well, and each of their relationships with Mia and/or Anton brought something else to the story. From Anita & Dre, and the struggle of single mothers trying to move up from poverty; to Mia’s grandfather and the devastation that is alzheimer’s; to Uncle Dix, who struggled with strokes, age, and some PTSD probably. I will admit it was almost too much for one story. But at the same time I loved each part, and how our characters dealt with life’s blows. So yeah. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, but it definitely started stronger than it ended, for me at least. Definitely looking forward to more though!

I LOVED Anton. He’s so dreamy. Anton Petrov is the team captain for the hockey team, the Chicago Blaze. He’s known for his strict regimen of healthy eating and working out. His teammates give him a hard time for abstaining from sex. But they don’t realize he is in love with someone he can’t have. Mia is married to a man she no longer wants to be with. She trying her best to get out from under his thumb and making it on her own. I loved Mia almost as much as I loved Anton. I admired her strength and determination. She did everything she could to make things right in her life and those close to her. Anton was amazing. He was a great friend to Mia when she needed one the most. And although he had pined for her for the last few years, he respected her wishes on taking things slow. Their relationship felt real and not rushed. I enjoyed both characters immensely and loved watching their relationship evolve. I definitely recommend this story to everyone. I promise you won’t regret reading it.

Anton wasn't really what I was expecting when I started reading, but this one took me by surprise. Mia has a rough start at the beginning and is not in a good place but it gets so much better for her by the end. Anton and Mia are awesome together and there are a couple of side relationships in this book that really got to me and were very touching and special. A great beginning to Brenda Rothert's newest series and I am super excited to read the next book and I'm hoping that it will have Luca, one of my favorite of Anton's teammates in it :)

I love hockey romance. I think it’s my favorite out of all of the sports romance genres. I’m not sure what it is, but the books just seem to have so much energy to them. And I’m always on the look out for something new. This author is one I’ve not read before, but I’ve heard a lot about. The blurb sounded interesting, and I have to admit, that cover jumped at me! I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to read this one! Mia is a strong woman that has been beaten down by life. Even though she was raised in a rougher part of Chicago, she was brought up in a loving home with her grandparents. She has watched her grandmother die, and her grandfather’s health deteriorate to the point that he doesn’t know who she is anymore. The one person that she should have been able to count on, tried to destroy her mentally. And he almost succeeded. But Mia is slowly pulling herself out from under the pile of garbage that he has buried her under. She is making her way in the world, despite his continued verbal assaults. Anton is a NHL player. He has worked tirelessly to get where he is, devoting his entire life to the game that he loves. But the past few years something else has kept his mind equally occupied. Mia. He wants her, but knows that he can’t go there. Until he realizes that things aren’t exactly how they seem. He just has to be patient and wait for things to play out in his favor. This book was amazing! The chemistry between Mia and Anton was fiery, and their devotion to each other and doing things the right way was beautiful! I was captivated from beginning to end. (And even though Mia was married in this book, there is no cheating!)
