About the Author

Mo Willems is the author and illustrator of such groundbreaking books as Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (Caldecott Honor winner 2004) and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! (Caldecott Honor winner 2003), leading the New York Times to declare him "the biggest new talent to emerge thus far in the '00s." Mo considers this series some of his most fun work.

Mo's deceptively simple art style was developed in his early career as a six-time Emmy Award-winning writer and animator for Sesame Street and the creator of Cartoon Network's Sheep in the Big City. He lives with his family in Brooklyn, New York.

This is a great book for emergent readers. My kindergartener and 4 year old loved this book the first time through and my kindergartener loves to read it aloud to family. The story is very easy to follow and my young children are able to relate to the characters because the characters' facial expressions/body language are open to interpretation! The pictures help my eager reader figure out words she's unfamiliar with. This is also a great book to ask prediction/comprehension questions with... Great find!

My 3-yr-old son and I love to read this book. A must-have for any parent/child reading relationship.

I've enjoyed the adventures of Piggie and Gerald. These books teach about sharing, adversity, friendship and humor. I've shared them with the teachers at my preschool and the children love them. The facial expressions on Piggie and Gerald are priceless. Great for parents to read to their kids. I look forward to more adventures.

Piggie's whining seems out of character, but I do appreciate Gerald's attempts to cheer her up. Good, but not the best of the Elephant and Piggie books.

My 20 month old daughter took to Gerald and Piggie right away! The story is engaging with lots to talk about even when not reading. (rain, play, pigs, elephants) Also, she loves the title so when she wakes up on a sunny day we often ask, "Are you ready to play outside!?" This is met with an enthusiastic "Yes!" The lessons in the books are great, too. Sometimes rain is ok and sometimes it's not. Friends are great to have around to help you when you are down. There is always a way to make a bad situation better. The list goes on. We are excited to purchase out next Piggie and Gerald tale - this was a great start to our collection!

My son and I are HUGE fans of Gerald and Piggie, they are so silly, and they always teach a good lesson. We can't say enough, Mo Willems can always be counted on to give a great story, simple and funny pictures for the kids to look at and "read" and easy words for the beginning reader too. We have almost all of the elephant and piggie books and will continue to collect them as long as they are written!
