The third season brings a third score release for the CW superhero series Arrow
, which returns composer Blake Neely
, The Mentalist
spinoff The Flash
). The series' urgent, orchestral, action-motivated fare relies heavily on strings, brass, and drums, but a track like the impulsive-seeming "Mean Streets of Hong Kong" has textured percussion and Eastern scales to vary the atmosphere. Elsewhere, "Ra's Al Guhl" uses distorted voices and pinging melodic percussion to accompany low thumping drums for a tribal effect. Most of the music signals danger just around the corner -- or immediately present -- but even Arrow needs physical if not emotional down time now and again, such as on the tender "Someone You Love." The CD edition includes the bonus disc The Flash vs. Arrow
(from two crossover episodes), bringing the total playing time to a whopping two hours and 20 minutes, with the first disc or digital download constituting nearly 75 minutes.
