Intertwined with his first book 'Through the Eyes of a Belfast Child: Life. Personal Reflections. Poems.' “I found this book to present a stark picture I often see in in my practice of law. Many people may find the abuse in this book to be beyond handling and question why anyone would stay so long. The book does an excellent job of showing how the abuser creates an invisible prison by tearing down self-esteem and convincing the abused person that they are not capable of life outside the prison walls.

I think it is a must read for married people so they can see the early signs of domination and abuse and prevent it in their own lives.”

About the Author

Greg McVicker is an Irish author, poet and storyteller. He was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the heightened period of sectarian hatred and a violent, political war known as 'The Troubles'. At age fifteen, his parents relocated their family by way of immigration to Winnipeg, Canada. He describes this as an 'Everlasting Homesickness'. Greg writes unashamedly from the heart, composing stories and narrative poems which delve into difficult topics about the human journey of life. He published three new books which tell his and the story of many others whom he has met and their life experiences: Residential School Survivors, Addictions, Grief and Loss, Poverty, Relationships, the Sex Trade, Child Welfare, Political and Religious ideologies, Spiritual Beliefs, The Troubles, as well as Irish Folklore and Mythology from his perspective. Greg also composes his works as that of a social worker from his direct experiences in working with marginalized populations. Greg works as a Supervisor in the field of Child and Family Services alongside of the First Nations of Manitoba - Anishinaabe. His role is to help young people to leave the care of CFS and assist them in their pursuits of post-secondary education, trade-based programs, or on to other endeavours including ongoing supports when necessary. His first book, a personal memoir, saw countless people equate their life experiences to that of his in their search for a sense of belonging while exploring their past. His titles include: Through the Eyes of a Belfast Child: Life. Personal Reflections. Poems. This reflects on Greg's life, and how his childhood was shaped throughout the 1970s and 1980s growing up in war torn Belfast, Northern Ireland; the challenges he experienced as a young lad after immigrating to Canada and adopting an identity completely removed from the one he left behind; exploring the difficulties that others have faced in their own journey as an adult, to his lifelong quest in defining his worldview. An Irish Heart: Poetic Memoirs of a Belfast Child. Greg uses both narrative poetry and prose along with stunning images to paint vivid stories in the minds of readers. The poetry is his original set of works which launched him into the writing world. One Cross to Bear: Humanity through Narrative Prose. This continues Greg's use of narrative poetry and prose along with stunning images to create vivid stories. The poetry is a new set of his works, delving deeper into the human journey and exploring difficult life experiences often kept in secrecy. The Adventures of Silly Billy: SILLOGY (Volume 1). This is a series of hilarious, true-life stories based on Greg’s childhood misadventures and memories growing up in Newtownabbey. Four Green Fields: Wild Irish Banter & Stories, Shenanigans & Poetry. Co-authored with Mark Rickerby and J.P. Sexton, Greg reveals the humorous and heartfelt aspects of being raised Irish.
