Behind the Throne begins K. B. Wagers's action-packed science fiction adventure, with a heroine as rebellious as Han Solo, as savvy as Leia, and as skilled as Rey.
Hail Bristol has made a name for herself as one of the most fearsome gunrunners in the galaxy. But she can't escape her past forever: twenty years ago, she was a runaway princess of the Indranan Empire. Now, her mother's people have finally come to bring her home.
But when Hail is dragged back to her Indrana to take her rightful place as the only remaining heir, she finds that trading her ship for a palace is her most dangerous move yet.
In a world where the only safe options are fight or flight, Hail must rule.

About the Author
K.B. Wagers is the author of the Indranan War trilogy and the forthcoming Farian War trilogy, about the gunrunner empress Hail Bristol. They live in the shadow of Colorado's Pikes Peak with their partner and a crew of poorly behaved cats. They're especially proud of their second-degree black belt in Shaolin Kung Fu and their three Tough Mudder completions. There's never really a moment when they're not writing, but they do enjoy fountain pens and good whiskey.

First and foremost, this is a terrific, breakneck ride through a brave new galaxy. Hail Bristol - and we - start the action at a dead sprint, and the pace only picks up from there. Besides its kickass main character, the story features several truly great supporting roles, including Emmory and Zin, as great a couple as you'll find in SFF. And, K.B. Wagers has placed these memorable players in an intricate chess game of imperial power plays, set in a speculative future that gleefully upends all the power structures on which our own flawed present is built. I'm ordering the next in the series right now.
Excellent tale, well told. Echoes of Bujold in the telling. Hoping for much more from KB Wagers.
Very enjoyable read and I am looking forward to the next installment. KB Wagers is definitely going to be on my automatic Read list of authors.
