What Worked The Romance: Loved the romantic dynamic between Jamie and Ryan. They practically sizzled the pages. The Story: The journey that Jamie went through in dealing with her powers, school and trying to balance it all while keeping her secret. The Drama: It erupted when Ryan made his way into Jamie's life turning all eyes on her. Forcing Jamie to deal with the ultimate question. To tell or not to tell? The Aftermath: I enjoyed how a major incident already happened and the focus was on the characters dealing with the aftermath as well as the new obstacles that came their way. Could Have Been Better The Villain - While the main focus was the romance between Jamie and Ryan I would have liked a more serious, deranged, kick ass villain. I didn't really get that in the story. I wanted more out of the villain. Characters Jamie- Stubborn, Independent, Smart Loner. Enjoyed her voice and how she gradually gone from being the snaky, independent loner to opening up her heart to love. Ryan - Persistent Popular Hunk. There was more than meets the eye with him which made me enjoy finding out exactly what that was. I like that he had the guts to see more in Jamie and was not afraid to go after it. Overall Many have a secret dream of becoming a super hero, having super powers and kicking butt. Be what happens when a freak accident happens that leaves you with uncontrollable powers? Does reality live up to that dream? In Being Jamie Baker, Jamie had to deal with life with those crazy powers and I enjoyed reading every moment of it. Being Jamie Baker was a great tale that had me really entertained. I really enjoyed the characters as well as the plot, watching how it all unfolded. Kelly Oram had me at super heroes. I look forward to reading more of her stories.

Did you read that first line up there? That's the first line of the book, wow. I love that line! What better way to start off a novel than with a kiss? I was at a writer's conference a few weeks ago, and someone brought up a question in one of my sessions about voice. She didn't understand what all the writers and agents meant by a novel having a voice. Well, if you are a writer and this is a mystery to you, I suggest reading Being Jamie Baker. This novel is a prime example. The author has a rare talent to make you feel as if you're not reading, but listening in on someone's private thoughts. Not only that, but Jamie is a wonderful character who I related to easily. If I were in her situation, I imagine I would handle it in much the same way and with the same attitude as would any girl, any real girl. It's always refreshing to read something with a little bit of humor, and I found myself laughing with Jamie and Ryan. The two of them definitely have "sparks" and I can't help but love a guy pursuing a girl who doesn't want to be chased, ahh, its good fun. Ryan Miller is your typical Mr. Popular for all intents and purposes, but as you get to know him through Jamie's eyes, you see that he has a depth and sincerity that not only can melt the Ice Queens heart, but also have you swooning and wanting him to win her over. This is a great and beautiful love story with a bit of humor and drama thrown in the mix to make a wonderfully crafted novel. I highly, highly recommend it! I give it 5 flames!

Great book, only on page 121 it says "I cold hear Paidge sniffling" when its supost to be ''I could hear Paidge sniffling". Besides that, great book, awesome plot, I would give it like a 4.5. You should definatly read this.

This book had me wanting more after every page. It was funny, relatable (aside from the being super part) and also serious at certain times. It is absolutely worth 5 stars.

Love this story so much. Wish it was an audiobook as well. How can you not love Ryan Miller. He never gives up on Jamie. They are the ultimate power couple. I've read the whole series. Each book shows a different side to the strength that is Ryan and Jamie. A must read

There is NOTHING I don't love about this story. The premise and plot are fun, the pace is perfect (I couldn't put the book down), the characters are well developed & understandable, and the writing is excellent both in style and substance. The story grabbed me and held on, succeeding in keeping my interest throughout. It also made me think about the many differences in people's abilities & temperaments, and how since we can never really know why others act the ways they do or put ourselves in their shoes, we have no business EVER judging anyone else. I give this story an A+. I dowloaded the second one in the series and am so excited to start reading it... right... NOW!

I had been thinking lately, I had really wanted to read a YA 1) with a strong female character 2) that had powers and 3) was also witty. I know weird little combo. But one day as I’m scrolling down my newsfeed, this story popped up. I knew by the cover. I don’t read much of the blurbs/synopsis’s when I decide on a book to read. It’s just a habit, I like to be surprised. Especially, love it, when I find a story that just stands out. Jamie Baker aka Ice Queen, some of her classmates gave that nickname. In Sacramento, CA. Is just a little misunderstood. She’s keeping everyone away from a secret, one that can be very lethal. Then one day Ryan decides to annoy her, with an unusual request. Everything just begins from there. I loved the build up, this wasn’t a slow drowsy story. It was more fast paced, the way I like it. I really loved Jamie. She may seem at first to be this scared girl, afraid of something that happened in her past. Blaming herself for something, she really had no control over. But through out the story she grows. She becomes stronger, realizing that the powers she has, she can control. Her and Ryan’s relationship. It felt real, I could tell he really cared for her in his own Ryanish way. She was able to overcome so much, by the end of this I was proud of her. It also touches on a lot of issues teens go through. “… Because you kissed me that day. I expected the ice queen and got a funny, go-with-the-flow girl that didn’t care that anyone thought about her. A girl willing to stir up gossip just so that I could win a date with someone else.” This is really a brilliant start to a series. Overall, I really loved it and I can’t wait to read the second one in the series. “.. they don’t understand you. They won’t even listen to me long enough to let me explain.” Lissa
