Storyline unique from the usual...even down to the dom being vulnerable which made for an even more compelling story. My only complaint keeping it from 5 stars is that it was just over 100 oages...more of a novella than a full book develop it more and you would have had 10 stars! ?

Everything changed for Marine Kenna Sloane when an IED killed her best friend and left her with a prosthetic arm. As Kenna struggles with survivor’s guilt and lingering pain she realizes her only choice is the BDSM club that provided her that mind-numbing relief that only a submissive can achieve. But returning to Blasphemy means running into her old lover, Master Griffin — the man who turned her away after she confessed her growing feelings for him. Griffin Hudson has regretted losing Kenna every day for the past five years but by the time he realized his mistake, Kenna had disappeared from Baltimore. When Griffin sees Kenna back at the club he’s determined to show her just how much he cares for her. I’ll start off by saying that I haven’t read too much BDSM/erotica but Laura Kaye is one of my all time favorite authors so I figured I would give this series a try. I ended up really enjoying Bound to Submit and plan to read more in the series even if the kinks and intimacies are a bit out of my personal interest — that’s what fantasy is all about right? Kaye has always been a wonderful writer who really knows how to embed emotion into her stories and I felt so much for her characters right along with them. Kenna’s journey throughout this book was heart-wrenching but you can see how each day she gets better and better as she learns to accept herself and what happened overseas. A large part of that acceptance comes from Griffin who supports Kenna and shows her that she’s still the strong, beautiful woman she’s always been. When it comes to heroes, Griffin was pretty perfect; he realized he loved Kenna after she left and no woman has been able to reach his heart. In fact, he even has a tattoo of Kenna’s face on his back, that’s how much he loves her. He’s always assumed he would never see Kenna again so when she shows up at Blasphemy he goes all in to earn Kenna’s trust and love. I adored the way Griffen took his cues from Kenna and went at her pace. He understood that she was vulnerable and working through her problems and he made sure he was there to support and encourage her without trying to take over. As for the chemistry, these two were on fire! They’re clearly perfect for each other as they can easily read what the other needs in and out of the bedroom. BDSM is certainly outside my wheelhouse but Kaye does an excellent job of showing the culture of BDSM in a positive and caring light in ways that past books have not. I can certainly understand how it can provide the mental and emotional relief that Kenna desperately needed from her own dark thoughts. I’m really looking forward to reading the next in the series which features the sexy and charming Master Quinton.

Definitely more romantic than BDSM or erotica, but still pretty good. Well developed characters, and they read well. Wish it had more actual BDSM action.

This was just THE BEST! Right from the start I was hooked and completely entranced by Kenna and Griffin’s story. It was filled with an incredible amount of emotion and heat and I loved how everything intertwined. Amazing read! Laura Kaye writes some of the best heroines. I'm sure I've said this with previous books of hers as well but it's true. They just really resonate with me and effect me. I absolutely adored Kenna. There was so much strength in this women and she puts herself out there to really start healing and living her life to the fullest. It was just full of so much emotion and it was was incredibly well written. Griffin was so sweet and so there for Kenna as they come together. I loved that level of strength he gave to her to be able to really open up. The story was amazing. The writing just had me so engrossed and the world around me fell away. I loved learning Griffin and Kenna's history, there were such great details and character development. And somebody pass me a fan because oh my goodness these two together are so freaking hot together! There was some really nice scenes in there. ;-) There is a major amount of intensity and emotion in this but I loved that there were a few lighter moments too bringing some much needed levity to the story. I swear some of those more intense and emotional scenes had me holding my breath. They were just so raw and real with vulnerable moments. I also really enjoyed getting more of a glimpse at the other Masters and can’t wait to read Quinton’s story. I really liked seeing Kyler and Mia again too. I think it’s just an all around great cast of characters. This was such a well crafted story with rich characters and I loved the dual POV of storytelling. And yes it has super hot moments but it is so much more than that. It's this truly amazing journey of healing and finding love and becoming whole again. Absolutely amazing!

Not as gritty and raw as some BDSM series, but a moving connection between the friends and couples made for a good read! The characters were well developed and they dealt with real issues. Can't wait to read about more of Blasphemy's dominants! Griffin Hudson has lived years haunted by the knowledge that his own immaturity and hesitation cost him the only woman he ever loved. He goes on about his daily life as one of the owners of Baltimore's popular BDSM club, Blasphemy ... but he has never forgotten her. One night he glances up after a scene and can't believe his eyes ... it's her! Kenna Sloane was devastated by Griffin all those years ago, but she found something to give herself to that made her feel more complete than ever before. Now her career as a Marine is over, and she's carrying the scars, guilt and flashbacks that just might bring her to her knees. The only thing in life that has ever made her lose herself and feel free is submitting. She has to return to Blasphemy and see if it can bring her any peace ... she's just not sure if Griffin is still there ... and if he will even be willing to help her!

* Book Synopsis Excerpt #1 From the ruins of an abandoned church comes Baltimore’s hottest and most exclusive BDSM club. Twelve Masters. Infinite fantasies. Welcome to Blasphemy... He thinks he caused her pain, but she knows he’s the only one who can heal her… * My thoughts: Oh my word! Just let me say... WOW! All of this book blew me away! Nice job, Laura Kay! * Book Synopsis Excerpt #2 Kenna Sloane lost her career and her arm in the Marines, and now she feels like she’s losing herself. Submission is the only thing that ever freed her from pain and made her feel secure, and Kenna needs to serve again. Bad. The only problem is the Dom she wants once refused her submission and broke her heart, but, scarred on the inside and out, she’s not looking for love this time. She’s not even sure she’s capable. * My thoughts: Talk about miscommunication. Or no communication. I felt for Kenna and understand why she thought what she did. * Book Synopsis Excerpt #3 Griffin Hudson is haunted by the mistakes that cost him the only woman he ever loved. Now she’s back at his BDSM club, Blasphemy, and more beautiful than ever, and she’s asking for his help with the pain he knows he caused. Even though he’s scared to hurt her again, he can’t refuse her, because he’d give anything to earn a second chance. And this time, he’ll hold on forever. * My thoughts: Griffin was an excellent man and I liked him a lot. Like, a whole lot. He was perfect for Kenna and wanted her back when she entered his life again. No, needed her back. For him. Bound to Submit was brilliantly written and the characters fleshed out. Griffin and Kenna were made for each other. I look forward to reading more of Laura Kaye's books!

Bound to Submit is a second chance romance story, and very sweet--no small feat, because there are large chunks of it that are not sweet at all... ;) Kenna and Griffin were in a mostly-exclusive D/s relationship five years ago when she told him she wanted more. Griffin said he didn't, and Kenna left. He regretted it almost immediately, but it was already too late--Kenna had quit her job and moved away. Griffin didn't know it at the time, but she'd joined the Marines. Now she's back, having survived an IED explosion. She suffers from survivor guilt, has trouble sleeping, and feels phantom pain from her missing right forearm. She needs something to take her out of her own head for a while, so she returns to Griffin's club, Blasphemy. Griffin is a master of Shibari, an artistic form of rope bondage, and I really liked how he did all he could to find out how he could use his art and not compromise Kenna's prosthetic arm. He did a great job of helping her figure out what she needed to start on the path of real healing, and wow, did their scenes sound amazing. However, I found myself wishing that the book had been longer. Even though the two had clearly been pining for each other for the last five years, their reunion was accomplished really quickly and they transitioned into something more almost right away. Don't get me wrong, I wanted them together, but it hardly felt like they had to work at it at all--the blips they ran into along the way were pretty much just that, blips. A longer story could have given them more time to develop their relationship more fully, and shown us in more detail the path that Kenna's new life is going to take from this point on. Still, it was an entertaining way to spend a few hours. I liked the old and new series characters, and I am looking forward to finding out what's going to happen with the rest of the Masters of Blasphemy as the series continues. Rating: 4 stars / B+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Like everyone, I have my go-to favorite authors. Admittedly, I rarely deviate from them mostly because they manage to keep me busy reading without the need to look elsewhere. But when I read the synopsis for Bound to Submit, I was intrigued, and decided to take a chance on an author and a storyline that were new to me. I have to say, I’m so glad I did; it did not disappoint. Kenna Stone has recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. She’s a wounded veteran, having received an injury that resulted in the amputation of a portion of her arm. Struggling with the physical and emotional pain of that experience, Kenna decides that returning to a former lifestyle may be her only hope in dealing with her injuries and her guilt. But what if the man she is counting on to help her rejects her again? Master Griffin hasn’t stopped thinking about the submissive he allowed to walk out of his life five years ago. When he spots Kenna as an observer in the crowd during a Shibari demonstration at Blasphemy, the exclusive BDSM club he co-owns, it momentarily robs him of all focus on the scene. Bound to Submit wasn’t, for me, a cliché erotic romance. The relationship between the characters was deeply sensual and thought-provoking. The book is written in third person, allowing the author to not give the reader the characters’ back-story, but to also allow the reader to see both perspectives. The relationship between Griffin and Kenna goes far beyond D/s. It’s an all-encompassing connection, a bond that was both erotic and emotional. Bound to Submit is the first in the Blasphemy series by author Laura Kaye. It’s also my first Laura Kaye novel, but it certainly won’t be my last. She has definitely hooked me in for the series! Five erotic (and touching) stars!

Bound to Submit is the first story in Laura Kaye's new BDSM erotic romance series, set at club Blasphemy in Baltimore. I've read some of this author's other stories and enjoyed them all, so I was interested to see what she would do with a BDSM theme. The story definitely lives up to its description as an erotic romance with some hot and heavy scenes mixed in with a second chance romance and is a great start to this new series! Right off the bat what I really liked was having the war veteran in this story be the female character. There are an abundance of romance stories featuring male veterans, so I really appreciated having the viewpoint of a woman who had been injured in combat. Kenna has learned to deal with her injury as best she can, though she still feels guilt for surviving the blast that killed her fellow female soldier. I thought the scenes with her dealing with the reality of having a prosthetic were well written. She tends to keep it hidden for fear of being pitied unless she's doing an event as a motivational speaker, but this isn't going to fly in a sex club. Once she and Griffin reconnect there he takes it in stride, reassuring her that he sees her whole self and not just the parts. Griffin treats her the same way as he did before the injury, to Kenna's relief, and this goes a long way to re-establishing the trust between them. Griffin definitely comes across as the good guy hero, ready and willing to make amends for the mistake he made in letting Kenna go in the first place, and knowing exactly what gives her pleasure. Whether they are doing a scene or not, he's an attentive lover who obviously cares for her. While BDSM stories obviously can encompass a lot of different kinds of scenes, the keys to this one are the bondage and domination ones. Kenna likes being bound and Griffin is an expert in Shibari, the japanese art of erotic rope bondage and this makes them very compatible. She also is a submissive, and this pairs perfectly with Griffin as a Dom. For those who are leery of the SM part of BDSM, this story steers clear of that and Kenna makes it clear that it's not for her (though a little discipline is okay, but nothing too painful). We get a glimpse of what else goes on in the club though, and with introductions to several of the other characters, this is definitely a series that will have lots to play with (pun intended). The second chance romance is tied up very nicely with a happy ending, and I look forward to reading what will come next in the series!

3.75 stars--BOUND TO SUBMIT is the first full length installment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult BLASPHEMY BDSM romance series focusing on the exclusive BDSM club Blasphemy. This is Master/Dominant Griffin Hudson, and former Marine/submissive Kenna Sloane’s story line. There is a prequel introductory novella –HARD TO SERVE-found in the 1001 Dark Nights multi-authored series, as well as part of Laura’s Hard Ink series. Told from dual third person perspectives (Kenna and Griffin) BOUND TO SUBMIT follows the second chance romance between Master Griffin, co-owner and Dominant at the exclusive BDSM club Blasphemy, and former Marine Kenna Sloane. Five years earlier Kenna proclaimed her love to Master Griffin but was met with rejection and no hopes for the future. As her personal life began to unravel, our heroine enlisted into the Marines and found herself stationed in Afghanistan where everything went to h*ll. Upon her return to American soil,tTwo more years would pass before Kenna makes a decision to re-examine her life as a submissive because she knows that something is missing from her life. Enter Griffin Hudson, the man she has always loved, and the man who will give Kenna the control that she has been missing. BOUND TO SUBMIT focuses on recovery and acceptance. Kenna’s return from Afghanistan brought with it memories of death and destruction, and she needed some stability and order in her life. As a submissive, she is expected to follow orders and her time in the Marines was perfect until the day she lost more than she could handle. Griffin is a man who made a mistake five years earlier but he was too late to make amends when the woman that he loved, walked away to places unknown. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense. Griffin is a Dominant into rope play and bondage-the BDSM element is light and never crosses into hardcore territory. Laura Kaye takes the reader up close and personal with the various aspects of BDSM bondage. There is very little conflict between our story line couple. Kenna is a woman willing to forgive and forget; Griffin is a man who knows that Kenna is the woman for the rest of his life. There is no outside interference, and the drama is limited to the rekindling romance, and Kenna’s need to confront the past. BOUND TO SUBMIT is a quick and easy read; the premise is positive and moving; the characters are passionate and forgiving; the romance is sensual and energetic. Because of the lack of conflict I did feel that there was something missing in the telling of the story-the energy level was too even without the emotional highs and lows.

Laura Kaye made me smile. And sigh. And cringe. And get turned on. And cry. And hope. And it was EVERYTHING! BDSM stories are not my go to. I don't really relate to them on a visceral level typically, as that's just not my kink. But I so enjoyed the prequel, Hard to Serve, that I was excited to read this one as well. I originally picked up Hard to Serve, because it took place in LK's Hard Ink world, which I loved so much, and I was excited to get another story from there, even if it wasn't something I normally would have read. I loved it and I was actually surprised by how much I loved it. LK made everything so real and pulled me in so hard that I didn't even realize the things about the story that had pulled me right out of similar stories before. She's done the same thing here with Bound to Submit. Kenna hasn't been to Blasphemy in 5 years. She and Master Griffin were previously involved. It turned into love for her, but he told her it hadn't for him, and that he didn't want a committed relationship. So, they parted ways, and Kenna left town to join the Marine Corps. Griffin knew he'd made a terrible mistake, and about 3 weeks later he went to make things right, but she was gone. He thought he'd never see her again. Kenna gained a lot in the Marine Corps, but she lost a lot too, including her best friend, and her own right arm. She suffers from many things: guilt, and flashbacks, but mostly, she has phantom pain and nightmares that make it so she can never really rest. She comes back to the club in the hopes that Master Griffin can take her out of her head again, the way he used to, as she needs that so badly. Griffin was resigned to the fact that he'd lost his love, and would never have that chance again, when Kenna comes back into his life. He's thrilled to see her, but he can tell that she's not the same as she used to be, and eventually he figures out all the whys. It only makes him want her more, love her more. He decides he's in this for good, and he'll fight for Kenna, whatever it takes. I really enjoyed watching them reconnect to each other, sexually and emotionally, through their mutual need of the D/s relationship. Most especially they are both into bondage, and they both need that from each other, as a big part of their connection. Kenna had a lot of ghosts and guilt from her past that she needed to lay to rest before she could really be happy in her life again. Her relationships have been strained as she hadn't actually dealt with many of her issues. She hadn't even really confided in her own sister, and that was starting to wear on her. Also, she feels responsible for her best friend's death, and though she knows in her head it isn't true, she hasn't been able to accept it in her heart. As she starts to come alive again, through her relationship with Griffin, she begins to fix other things in her life. She and her sister grow closer again. And, she finally books the trip she's been dreading and putting off for 2 years. She goes to see her best friend, Georgia's, mom, and give her the gifts Georgia left for her before she died. That meeting really had all the feels for me and made me cry, in a way a book hasn't in a while. It was cathartic, for me and for Kenna! I love the way she's written all of her former military characters with such respect and care. Overall, this book was perfection. I truly loved Griffin and Kenna, separately and together, and I can't wait to see what's next!

We first discovered Blasphemy in Hard to Serve. Now we meet Master Griffin and the heartache he has endured for five years since Kenna walked out of his life. He has never forgotten her so imagine his shock when he finds her at the club one night. Where has she been? Well it is going to blow his mind and his heart to shreds when she finally lets him know. She has never forgotten or gotten over Master Griffin and now she wants so much but is afraid of it all considering she blames herself on so many levels. Can he be what she needed then and what she needs most of all now? This is a great start to a new series that is super sexy, loving, and more than just a Dom and Sub. Cannot wait to see what the author has next in this series.

Laura Kaye is not afraid to delve inside the human psyche. Some of her best stories tackle tough and controversial subjects. Bound to Submit is her latest. Kenna is a complex character. Having endured the tragedies of war and a career ending injury, she shields her emotional pain. Her broken body and bruised spirit has lead her to seek out a dark avenue of expression. In order to feel alive, she thrives on the physical expression of pain. In that moment she can expose herself without the prying eyes and the heartbreaking looks. Griffin is no white knight. He has his own demons to contend with, but nothing hurts him more than the shell that Kenna has become. The distance between them is like a chasm. Heartache broke them apart, can tragedy heal the rift? There is no black and white with Bound to Submit. The story is designed on feelings and the power they have. Disturbing, sensual, tragic, inspiring -there is no halfway with Kenna and Griffin.
