Bring Me The Horizon (A Romancing the Pirate prequel) by Jennifer Bray-Weber

Graciela DuBois is desperate to find the vile pirate who took her sister. What better way to hunt a pirate than with another pirate? When she strikes a reckless bargain with the infamous Captain Banning, she soon realizes a ship full of rogues isn’t as dangerous as her growing desires for the captain.

Captain Cutler Banning is hardly impressed by the lass’s quest—especially when the man she seeks is a member of his pirate brethren. That is, until she offers to pay handsomely with a legendary gold nugget and her body. the curse the gold is said to bring, he agrees to help. Doing so invites trouble both on board his ship and in his wounded heart. And Gracie has a secret that just may destroy the brethren.

This novella was a quick read with plenty of adventure on the high seas. Gracie wants to hire Cutler and his ship of pirates to go after another pirate who took her sister. When she sees that not even the promise of a legendary gold nugget will get Cutler to break ranks with the other pirate, she offers herself as part of the bargain. While Carrion is the kind of pirate who gives pirates a bad name, Cutler would rather not stir up trouble with the pirate brethren. But the gold would satisfy his crew, and the woman might satisfy him for a while. He has no intention of actually caring for her. He tried that once and got his heart ripped out. These two have chemistry from the beginning, but of course, secrets and lies threaten to tear apart any trust between the two. The twist at the end was unexpected, and the novella introduces other characters that are sure to be part of the rest of the Romancing the Pirate series. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Frankly, I found Bring Me The Horizon a great book. The plot was amazing, and the ending isn't even a cliffhanger. It kept me turning pages, and when it ended, I wanted more! I'll definitely be buying more of this author.
