Rory Madigan and Rebekah Sinclair swear eternal love when he is 21 and she 17. This proves a vow easier to make than to keep. The result is that when they are separated both become bitter, feeling the other is to blame. Several years later, the two meet again. She is now a glittering political hostess and he a ruthless power broker. And although neither will admit it, they are still both deeply in love. I enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first because Rebekah has become stronger and because what separates them now is far more dangerous than her father who is a bit of a bigoted hypocrite (although he does repent) or even Amos Wells the rather nasty sicko she was forced to marry. They are caught in the middle of a high stakes political intrigue that might get them both killed. Not as much action as in most of Henke's other novels but a solid story and sensual love scenes. Worth a reader's time.
