How far will they go for a second chance...

Years ago, Layla Parker's romantic dreams came true. She married her high school sweetheart and settled into a house on his family's ranch to live happily ever after. But sometimes dreams turn into nightmares and when Layla's husband became abusive, she felt there was no way out. Her big brother was serving overseas, her friends were away at college, and her single father insisted she'd made her bed and now she had to lie in it. It isn't until her father's death over a decade later that Layla gains the courage to leave her marriage. She hopes to find peace living alone, but her dreams of happily ever after died a long time ago.

Cole Lawson has spent years secretly pining for his former best friend. Layla Parker captured his heart sophomore year of high school, but she was already taken. When she married her boyfriend two years later, she and Cole grew apart and have rarely seen each other since. Cole's been a lady killer since the day he realized that his dimpled smile made all the cowgirls swoon, but when he discovers Layla is newly single he's ready to put an end to his womanizing ways and make a serious play for the one who got away.

When tragedy strikes the Lawson family, Cole and Layla's rekindled friendship grows into something more, but soon a dark secret from Layla's past threatens to destroy their shot at forever. Now Cole will have to decide--listen to his heart or to the people warning him that Layla might not be as innocent as she seems.

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary romances she loves to read.

She's married to the man of her dreams, and together they're raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she's not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

I ABSOLUTELY loved this book. I could not put this down until I finished it. Jessie Evans hit it out of the park with this one. You should read the entire series. You won't be disappointed! Two thumbs Up on this book.

I just LOVE Jessie Evans' books. They come out and I just have to read them. They always seem to have the perfect combination of sweet and sassy, sexy and fun and Chaps and Chance had those as well as some suspense. I have to say, I loved Cole Lawson, he is a great character. We have had bits and pieces of Cole prior to this book, but in getting the full Cole experience I can only say I love him. He is sweet and ridiculously sexy, he is an awesome uncle and brother, he stands up for what he believes in, does what makes him happy and after a brush with death (check out Glitter and Grit for details) he lives each day to the fullest. When he figures out what Layla went through in her marriage, he instantly stands up for her and tells her if she needs anything at all, he is there for her. He is just an all around great guy.  Layla was a great character as well. Seeing her go from the battered wife that she was to someone willing to fight for her life, to stand up for herself and take a chance on love again, was a great progression. Layla and Cole together was even better. They seemed to complement each other in the best ways and really bring out the best in each other. This book was fun, sexy, suspenseful, heartbreaking and sweet all together and I just can't wait for the conclusion of the series.

Read this author's other series and enjoyed it a lot. Tried this out because it said it could be read as a stand alone. It can, and it was a gut wrenching wonderful read but also a lot sexier than the other books I read. I still enjoyed it a lot but could have done without some of the boundary pushing moments.

Another great addition to the Lonesome Point series. Layla's life has been hell for the last ten years.  Although I can't even begin to imagine being in her situation, Ms. Evans does a wonderful job bringing us into her world. When she finally realizes that she must leave her husband in order to survive, she never planned on meeting up with her childhood friend, Cole.  Cole has never gotten over his crush for Layla, and now that he has a chance at a future with her, he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.  There is a lot of heartbreak and unexpected tragedy in this story.  There are also some very tender and sexy moments.  Bubba, a character in a previous story, is one of my favorite heroes, and his brother Cole did not disappoint in the least.   This is an amazing series, and while this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend you read all the books - you will not be disappointed. Chaps and Chance was another exceptional addition to the Lonesome Point series. All of these books have heart and fantastic characters, all of which have flaws, which make the stories that much more impactful. Cole Lawson and Layla Parker have known each other for years and both have harbored romantic feelings for the others for as long as they can remember, but their lives took them in different directions. Cole didn't have the guts to ask her out all of those years ago and because he didn't, she wound up going out with the man that would become her husband. Her abusive husband. Now many years later, the two old friends reconnect and Cole isn't going to make the same mistake twice. Not only does he want the chance to be with Layla that he never had before, he wants to keep her safe when she is threatened by her soon-to-be ex-husband. Throughout the course of the book we are not only treated to the unfolding of a beautiful love story between Cole and Layla, but we also see the trails and tribulations the two of them must endure to ensure that love lasts. In the end will their second chance at love really be the relationship they were meant to have for the rest of their lives? I adore Jessie Evans' books and I'm so looking forward to the next one in this series!

Wow, Jessie Evans just Wow! I loved Cole from the minute I was introduced to him in Glitter and Grit and was so excited to read more about him in Chaps and Chance. Cole is one of the lovely Lawson men, brothers with Bubba from Saddles and Sin. Cole is the man you want on your side. Not only is he HOT, SEXY, SWEET and LOYAL, but also a man to not mess with. He protects his family and friends, especially the woman that he LOVES. Layla Parker is the woman that Cole just couldn't forget. Yea, he may have the player reputation, but no one comes close to his Layla. Layla was always fond of Cole and had deep feelings for him, but chose her high sweetheart to marry. What started as a beautiful courtship quickly changed into a horror. Layla, running away from her abusive husband, brings her back to Lonesome Point and into the arms of Cole. Their chemistry cannot be denied, and although Layla wants to only be friends soon she cannot deny her lust for Cole. She is done being afraid of loving again and Cole is more than ready for his second chance. Twist and tragedy soon effect their blossoming relationship, and both Layla and Cole are left in limbo. Can Layla and Cole overcome all the obstacles standing in their way and finally have their second chance in love? I love this book! There were so many moments that I was laughing and crying. It was filled with sadness, humor, grief, suspense and second chances in love. Thank you Jessie for once again hitting it out of the ball park!

Chaps and Chance by Jessie Evans I just finished reading the most compelling book and I wish there was more to read!   Chaps and Chance was so well written by Jessie Evans that she draws you in the story and keeps you there until the  very end of the book when she writes THE END. I read a lot of books but Jessie Evans has a special way of telling her  story in her books.  She memorizes the reader and captures your attention and when the end comes you just have to  sigh……it’s that good! EXCELLENT READ and you won’t be disappointed.   Patricia Greco

Jessie's Lonesome Point, TX, series just keeps getting better and better. I know, I say it after each book, but it is absolutely true. When each new installment in the series releases, I know that it's going to have me riveted from the first page, unwilling to do anything but read, and Chaps and Chance delivers in the most wonderful way. Once I met Cole Lawson, there was no way that I was willing or able to do anything but fly through this book as fast as I could. All of the Lawson brothers are yummy, but Cole, mmmmm, Cole. Hot as heck, sexy as sin, and steadfast to the end, he is the stuff that book boyfriends are made of. He's loved Layla Parker since they were kids, and wants nothing more than to put the smile back on her face that years of living with her abusive husband Wayne took away. He knows that it's not often that a second chance at love comes along, and will do whatever it takes to have the happy ending that they missed out on when they were younger. Layla is one strong woman. Having survived ten long years of hell at Wayne's hands, she's emerged smarter and tougher. Left with a heart as battered as her body had been, Layla isn't expecting to find love again, but Cole shows her that sometimes the best things are worth waiting - and fighting - for. "They stared at each other, into each other, until the years and the awkwardness fell away, and for a moment, it was the way it used to be, back when they'd spent hours together, talking and laughing, with only comfortable silences falling between them." Jessie Evans is one of my go-to authors. She delivers angst, passion, sadness, and joy in equal measure with every book, and I look forward to each one with anticipation. I cannot wait to read Ropes and Revenge, John Lawson's book, and to continue my love affair with Lonesome Point. 5+ 'I love a cowboy' stars for Jessie and this gem of a book.

Jessie Evans has an amazing ability to pack a wide variety of emotion in a very well written book. Each new book of hers I read is better than the last. Cole and Layla's story is packed with serious, funny, ugly tears, fear and love. This one you will not be able to put down. Lonesome Point, Texas sounds like an amazing place to be. Looking forward to the next book in the series and my happy reader self can name several more characters I'd like to see get a happily ever after.

(Reviewer's Note: This story deals with domestic abuse, and is addressed (somewhat) in this review. Please take this into consideration before reading further and/or purchasing this book.) This story opens up to heartache, tragedy and sadness. I was blindsided by the depth of emotion in it and the power it had over me. I cried and I couldn't stop. It might've been minutes, maybe an hour. I don't know. But the pull was so strong and left me drained. There is, I think, nothing worse than feeling helpless and hopeless in a place where neither of those should exist. Yes, marriage is work. Yes, couples encounter problems. You'll go through periods of liking and not liking each other, yet the love you have should always be there. It should be what pulls you through those tough moments. It should be a reminder of what you have now and what you want later together. It should not be part of an apology meant to cover the damage done by words or fists. Never. When love is spoken after an argument, it's a spoken reminder of that feeling you both share. It's a reinforcement of why you agreed to disagree, why you compromised. It's not meant to cover your ass when you lose your temper. Like other women of abuse that I've come to know in books, Layla found the strength to leave it behind. The damage was done though. She wasn't the Layla of ten years ago. Smiles were hard to come by, laughter even more so. Rebuilding her self-esteem was essential and she did it slowly, carefully. She learned to be strong for herself, to see her self-worth. She also learned to open her heart again to the one man she maybe should have taken a chance on years ago. Cole was a man worth taking a chance on. With him, she found a reason to really smile and laugh and love. And Cole... I wouldn't call him disillusioned. He knew she was different than before, could see it in her eyes and in her body language but he loved her anyway. Because that is what love is. Its rock steady and unconditional. It doesn't sway because a meal is cooked wrong, something wasn't put where it was supposed to be, or a too-short dress was worn in public. It forgives. It forgets. It heals. It helps you move forward. Despite what comes, despite what others say, that kind of love is unwavering and true. I wouldn't have believed that any of these would be possible to see in this story if I hadn't seen how Layla grew from fearful of a man's touch to anticipating her man's touch. In one way or another, they were always making love. When two people were as close as they were, lovemaking didn't stop when you left the bedroom. It was there in every touch, every conversation, every moment of shared happiness that made a relationship into a union that nothing could break. (Kindle, ARC, Loc 2734) Ms. Evans, I swear you'll have me in tears with every book you write but I don't mind at all. Thank you for creating a world where I feel so much and come away with my heart full and content with the outcome you write for your characters. You make them real, make me want to like them, hate them, love them, sympathize with them, want better for them (or not, lol). So despite the emotional upheaval I experience reading your books, thank you. I wouldn't trade that kind of upheaval for anything. 4.5* (Received from author for an honest review)

Jessie Evans has this way of making words flow from the page and into your heart. They just taste good. Delicious and heartwarming. Chaps and Chance is the newest addition to the Lonesome Point, TX series and hot damn is it great! Cole is Bubba's brother and Layla is the girl he always has a crush on. We've met them before and I'm so happy that they got their story. There was always something about Cole that was intriguing. Now I know what it was. He's hot, sexy, silly, dirty and did I say hot? He still has feelings for Layla and he's not going to miss out on another opportunity to let her know. Layla is trying to recover from leaving her abusive husband, but she can't seem to stay away from Cole. Something about his body and soul call out to her. She's done being afraid and she wants Cole, so she's going to have him. Cole is more than willing, but when tragedy hits too close to home, Cole is torn between going after what he wants or possibly losing Layla forever. This book has everything: love, heat, angst, sadness, humor, grief, and suspense. Let's not forget the hot sex and the shocker moment! I'm already impatient for John story! I’ll take a double scoop of rainbow sprinkles now. The way he filled out a tee shirt and jeans was borderline obscene, showcasing more muscles than one make body should be allowed to possess. "And if you stay with me, I can show you all the fun things I've learned since we were kids." "I think I already know a little about that." Heat crept into her cool blue gaze, making his pulse leap. "I was talking about my culinary skills," Cole said, his voice husky. "But I'd love to show you more of the other, too." "Rainbow sprinkles," she sighed, catching her breath as she floated back to earth. "Curse word I haven't head of?" Cole asked, "or my new nickname?" "Both." This kiss was a drink of water in the desert, a hand up out of the quicksand. This kiss was a promise that, even though the world was full of darkness, he would always find light in this woman's arms.

I don't know where to start there is so much that I loved about this book. I'll start with Cole, where can myself one of those? The man can cook and he has a great sense of humor then throw in how fiercely he loves, man oh man. The chemistry between him and Kayla whew hot!! Layla, what she has endured and still is makes you feel for her and you want her to get that HEA.This book pulls everything out of you, laughs, tears, and sighs. The build up at the climax of the book holy cow keeps you on the edge of you seat. Plus there was a twist that I didn't see coming that makes me anticipate the next book. I can't say how much I recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.

I adore this series and this is one of the best so far. This story will have you turning page after page, never able to put it down. The emotions that jump from the pages are a real roller coaster and will leaving you gasping, laughing, and crying at times. It's a great story of a woman finding her inner strength and trying to live life on her terms. Reconnecting with a lost love is the one thing that really shows her how life should be lived. I highly recommend this one!
