Overview

Chasing Down a Dream (Blessings Series #8) by Beverly Jenkins

NAACP nominee and USA Today bestselling author Beverly Jenkins continues her beloved Blessings series with a heartwarming novel about what really makes a family.

There’s never a dull day in Henry Adams, Kansas.

Tamar July has never had a great relationship with certain members of her family. In fact, she’d characterize it as a “hate/hate relationship.” But when her cousin calls her with the news that she’s dying and wants Tamar to plan the funeral, she’s shocked but is willing to drop everything for her.

After a horrendous storm, Gemma finds a young boy and his little sister walking on the side of the road. She takes them in, and quickly falls in love with the orphaned siblings. But when Gemma contacts Social Services to try to become their foster mother, she’s told a white woman cannot foster African-American children.

In the midst of these trials, Jack and Rocky are trying to plan their wedding. The entire town comes together to lend a helping hand.

Though the residents of Henry Adams face seemingly insurmountable obstacles, each of them will discover that family comes in many forms, especially during the most trying of times.

First of all the audio was difficult to listen to,as there was a different narrator. She was lacking in many ways, the storyline was entertaining, until one of the couple's relationship took a mean turn. I found it a turn off as he was supposed to be a man of integrity.Ruined it all for me.

The Blessings series is like visiting home on vacation and catching up on what friends and family a have been up to. Each time a book is released I try to think back over my life since the last book. I ask myself, " have I noticed my blessings?"

Ms. Jenkins' characters draw you into their lives and you feel what each character is going through. They are well defined and run the emotional gambit from joyous to confusion to frustration to anger and back to joyous. Each character, no matter their role is integral to the overall story. Ms. Jenkins is a master craftswoman with storytelling and this installment of the Blessings series is no different. You will truly enjoy this series.

Loved this story. So sad when the book ended. Ms. Jenkins pulls you in and keeps you there making it so real you want to live there and be a part of everyone's lives. Thank you thank you thank you! I hope we don't have to wait long for the next in the series......

Love this town and the people are great. So much happens in a short period of time. Lucas and Jaz come from wealthy family and are the kindest kids. Wyatt is another great kid who had lost his mother and being raised by his grandmother. Then you think you know the adults and they disappoint. I so wanted to be wrong about Mal, maybe there is redemption in the next book for him. Highly recommend this author and this series. Mjw

I loved this book as well as all of the other Blessings series’ texts. Over the years, Ms. Jenkins has managed to help me embrace the memories and history of my small town upbringing which is was also full of love, anger, loss, and redemption. I love fictional books that seamlessly interweave factual historical knowledge, which not often taught in schools. These books push me to continue to grow as a student and educator. I can’t wait to read #9. Thank you, Ms. Jenkins!

As always Beverly Jenkins pulled at my heart strings. This is a wonderful series. From the very first book to this one I've grown fonder and more invested into this world if Henry Adam's. I can't wait for next instalment.

As always Beverly Jenkins knows how to weave a tale. This story gripped my heart from page one. From the Herman children to Tamar to Bernadine, this visit to Henry Adams was a rollercoaster ride. I am just glad Tamar made it through to the end because there were moments when my heart couldn't take it. I loved Henry Adams since reading about this town in Ms. Jenkins' historical novels. Every time I pick up a Blessings novel, I am transported back and sucked in. It's like I am right there experiencing each and every event right along with the characters. This installment did not disappoint. I cannot wait for the next one. If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for??

I wish that the stories were longer. It seems like some things are rushed. I love this series.

What a powerful story. Love is blind and children if left to do the right thing will. It is adults who keep prejudices going, no just race but status also.

This book was really heartfelt. I so wanted the new foster kids to find happiness. I'm hoping that they will be adopted in the end. I was extremely heartbroken for Bernadine. I couldn't believe how Mal betrayed her as if their relationship meant nothing. Definitely curious about how that will survive. Rocky and Jack are quickly becoming my favorite. I'm always a sucker for long and a happy ending. Can't wait until book #9!! Hoping it'll be here by late 2017 or early 2018.
