The sizzling HOT novella that introduces USA Today Bestselling author Carole Mortimer’s all new series, ALPHA, contemporary romance with an added dash of suspense.

Stories of dark and compelling ALPHA men, who are used to taking what they want when they want it, and the strong and determined women who have no intention of being taken. Unless it’s on their own terms...

Finn Devlin is being stalked by his ex-girlfriend, and the last thing he wants or needs is to find himself stranded in a blizzard, four days before Christmas, with a woman he’s only just met but already knows he wants in his bed. Underneath him. On top of him. Any way he can get her!

Eva Shaw has no idea why Finn Devlin would choose to live alone in such a remote place miles from his nearest neighbors. One thing she does know, however—she isn’t the woman he’s mistaken her for. The woman he ‘hired’ from an ‘agency’...

While the blizzard continues to rage fiercely outside, the passion inside the house becomes even hotter and unstoppable. Taking Finn and Eva to new and undeniable heights of raw sensuality and desire.

While someone outside watches. And waits...

Author’s Note: The novellas and full-length novels in the ALPHA series have sexier situations and more adult language than my other books.

After a brutal break up, internationally famous Finn Devlin retreats to a remote estate in the wilds of Wales to escape his ex-girlfriend whose behavior has taken a violent and dangerous turn. Finn's life takes a surprising turn when the courier delivering a package to him ends up marooned with him by a blizzard. Finn feels passion for the fiery woman unlike anything he has felt in a long time, if ever. But the package she delivers sends ice through his veins, because it signals to him that his ex has found out where he has been hiding. In fact, she is likely watching the house even as Finn and his new love fan the flames between them. Just what is his crazy ex capable of doing in a jealous rage? Can Finn prevent a tragedy so far from help with the snow further isolating them? This novella was a quick read with hot, explicit sex, but for some reason, it lacked a lot of the eroticism needed to make it truly steamy. I think perhaps the shorter format necessitated that much of the build up be left out, so the heat just wasn't there. For the same reason, the characters lacked depth and dimension, and the the progression of the plot felt forced at key points. However, the writing style was fluid and showed promise, so I am open to trying a longer format work from this author in the future.

This is a new venture for the author who writes contemporary and historical romance for HM&B. The Alpha series is billed to be more explicit with stronger language and a smidgeon of suspense. It's becoming increasingly common to introduce a new series with a novella, a taster to get you started. Christmas Alpha is the story of Eva, who we meet on arrival at an isolated cottage delivering a parcel. The cute meet has a high level of sexual impact, giving us a fair indication that this is warmer than the average romance from this author. So far we are meeting expectations. The hero is Finn Devlin, sexy alpha, with a nasty secret that is going to make things a teensy bit uncomfortable down the track, for both of them. Having delivered her parcel, Eva is not going anywhere because a blizzard is now raging. Yes we are only a few days before Christmas. The story is simple, hero and heroine trapped together while the temperature outside drops and the temperature inside rises. The smexy is definitely more explicit as is the language but not really stepping into erotic territory. The suspense elements were also fairly simple which is fair enough with the short novella format. The ending seemed a little disjointed but the HEA was satisfactory. The mentions of the next hero in the series and the appearance of another potential hero have whetted my appetite for more.
