Cold Hearted Son of a Witch by M. R. Mathias

Praise for The Dragoneers Saga "The action is fast and furious, and the novel has the author's trademark twists on the traditional storyline and keeps one guessing where it will go. It is a fun book that I heartily recommend." -- Fantasy Book Critic

Zahrellion, Rikky, and their dragons, embark on a quest to find the special mushrooms Mysterian needs to save Prince Richard from Gravelbone's poison.

Meanwhile, Jenka and his loveable dragon, Jade, escort the King's Rangers back to Kingsmen's Keep. When Jenka and the half-elvish mute, Lemmy, find a map at the Temple of Dou, they follow it and find more trouble than they bargained for.

Ultimately, the five Dragoneers come together as they are forced to stand and face a terrible threat that is only just revealing itself...

Hold on to your Dragon!

I lreally enjoyed the whole series. Started the first book as a freebie and bought the rest before I was halfway through. Just couldn't put them down.

Cold Hearted Son of a Witch is book II in Mathias' trilogy, and I'm assuming a bridge to book III. Considering the number of characters (okay, who is that guy and what's his background again?) it's helpful to have read book I, The Royal Dragoneers, first. This is a fun read in terms of movement, animation and creativity. In the first book I found the overstimulated, non-stop action sequences a bit of a challenge, and I was hard pressed to find a place where I could catch my breath. That frantic momentum is, thankfully, missing from this book, which means a smoother ride for the reader. The easier pace gave me the opportunity to finally get to know the characters. Knowing their personalities shines a new light on the overall story, which - logically - makes the mental experience more enjoyable. Mathias' sense of humor is more prevalant in this book, and I found it spot on throughout the story. The other reviews give more of the story away than I'd like to see, so on that note I won't give anything else up. I'm not a big fan of fantasy books. Having said that - I'm having fun reading Mathias' work.

M. R. Mathias does a great job continuing the Dragoneers saga with Cold Hearted Son of a Witch. This picks up shortly from where the first one drops off and continues the magnificent journey that was started in book one. There were several plot twists that I did not see coming that kept me guessing. I think that some of the things that should have happened, but did not, and some of the things that happened settled some lingering questions from the first book and balanced out the things I thought were going to be taken care of in this installment. Mathias was able to bring pieces of his other works into this one and I was happy to see them. This is a book that I think you could start the saga here and understand it enough to continue without being completely lost. Once again I am eagerly awaiting the next installment so I can continue the journey Jenka, Jade, Rikky, Silva, Zahrellion, and Crystal.

In this installment of the story of the dragoneers, we get to meet a new member and also a new threat to mankind. The Sarax are a formidable bunch that will be hard to beat. The plus side is that now the dragoneers have met Crimzon and have have an idea on how to defeat them. I love this author’s writing style, because the imagery is so detailed it allows you to “see” what is going on. I am hooked on this series and cannot wait to read the next installment. Each new character just brings that much more to the story. I give this book 5***** stars as it has been awhile since a book has been able to pull me in so deep. I highly recommend that you at least put this book on your TBR list and give it a try. I don’t believe you would regret it.

I'm not sure why this is under M./ Mathias instead of M. R. Mathias but it is fantastic.

Cold hearted son of a witch picks up right where the Royal Dragoneers left off. It's been awhile since I read the first book, but I'm pretty sure that one took me a few days to a week to get through. This one was much shorter and I read the whole thing in one day! I couldn't put it down, I literally read all day! Prince Richard is in a spelled slumber and the Dragoneers must undertake a long journey to get the mushrooms that will heal him. Meanwhile a larger threat is looming and there is a magical force pulling the Dragoneers together. The 3 known Dragoneers meet the final 2. There's an almost instant bond between the 5. The confliction is drawing near and the 5 must fight together against the alien monsters to save all the people. This book is full of action, and you really get to know the characters more in depth. As always, I highly recommend M.R. Mathias as an author and this book is just as great as all the others!

Zah and Ricky have to find the magic mushrooms or Prince Richard will die. While they are on their quest Jenka and Jade must safely escort the King’s Rangers, but the map they find on their journey will lead them to the temple of Dou, and a revelation of a new threat that could be the one they cannot defeat. Son of a Witch is book 2 of the Dragoneers Saga and in typical Mathias fashion picks up right where book 2 left off. Mathias works in characters from previous books and even novellas or prequel series to wind the story along in a blossoming fantasy universe. While this certainly is the “bridge” of the trilogy, it doesn’t lack for action or plot, and does a great job of what middle books are supposed to do - character development. I really enjoyed the maturation and the revelations behind several of the main characters, as well as the villains. Looking forward to the final book!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I love books about magic and dragons and this book did not disappoint. I finished this book in one day, I absolutely could not put it down! This book had me neglecting my household duties as I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I was riveted from the very first sentence. Dragons Druids Magic awesome fight scenes this book has it all. I did feel a little lost at first as I didnt realize it was the second book in a series. I caught on very quickly and was drawn into such a vivid world. I felt I know the characters and was emotionally invested in what happened to them. The writer definitely understands how to grab your imagination and take it on a wild ride. Buckle up! This book will not disappoint you in your quest to find a new and enchanting world.

Cold Hearted Son of a Witchis Book Two in the Dragoneers Saga by M.R. Mathias, another stunning work that features Jenka and his dragon, Jade and other compelling characters and creatures. Accompanied by the half-elf, Lemmy, Jenka is escorting the king to Kingsmens Keep and the journey is as treacherous and it is adventurous. Will they be able to weave themselves through the dangers and come out alive and in intact? On another front, the dragoneers Zahrellion and Rikky are on an equally dangerous mission to save the life of the Prince Richard from a very deadly poison. They must locate a special mushroom that can cure him and they have to do it before its too late. Will they be able to triumph over the multiple challenges and find the cure before the prince dies? The good guys still have many battles to fight and an enemy who doesnt seem to relent. M.R. Mathias, as usual, has delivered another highly entertaining work that will have readers reading into the late hours of the night. Youll have the same fast-paced that has characterized his earlier works, characters that evolve in ways that will surprise and wow readers. This one is the work of genius, a must read for fans of fantasy.

After the first book, I was really hoping this would continue in the same vein and keep the excitement and drama as high. There is no doubt that Mathias is getting better and better with each book. I'm a latecomer to the fantasy genre but now I'm a full convert and look forward to each of his new releases. Never has a dragon seemed more real. Loved it, well done and keep more coming.

As we continue on to the second in The Dragoneers saga, fans will not be disappointed as we take the plunge once again into Mathias' imaginative and wicked mind. Just like the first, readers will find this addition to the series almost impossible to put down. New and exciting characters are introduced and will keep fantasy fans glued to their seats until the explosive ending. And, let's not forget the mighty dragons who seem to take center stage more often than our two-legged heroes. Twists and turns at every corner will keep readers' interest and have them highly anticipating the third novel by this intensely gifted author. Even though this book is shorter than number one, it still packs a mighty punch.

This was the second installment in the Young Adult Fantasy thriller series. The story continues on from where the first book left it, Gravelbone has been defeated but the Prince to the Kingdom had been infected with a horrible affliction, the only solution is to fetch rare mushrooms from a far off distant island. Yet, due to the young age of Jenka's dragon Jade, they cannot hope to attempt such a long distance over the sea. Jenka, now totally inlove with Zah, wants to let her know how he feels yet she still remains reluctant and leaves with Rikky out across the sea without a decent goodbye. Jenka with his heart confusing his thoughts is assigned the job to escort the King's Rangers back to the Kingsmen's Keep. Yet all of this seems futile when more Dragoneers appear onto the scene and it becomes very clear that the confliction will arrive soon, bringing with it horrors worse than Gravelbone. The imagery of this well descripted world has been expanded into the world beyond the single kingdom as the Dragoneers gather from afar, and now the Temple of Dou will play a pivitol role in the story as just beyond it in the mountains is a castle custom made for the Dragoneers. Yet more than that, there is also the hidden danger lurking. Hidden deep within a cavern, frozen for centuries and nearing escape are the horrorible creatures which the Dragoneers will now see as their new enemy. Worries of the Kingdom start to seem insignificant as this new threat could destroy both man and creature, and the darkness of some men seek to move to control this danger rather than to halt it. Can the Five Dragoneers with their dragons halt the alien evil beasts? Will Jenka ever hear words of love from Zah? Will the prince live, and whatsmore, has the corruption from Gravelbone upon his mind lingered? It was great to read this second book of The Dragoneers Saga as I really enjoyed the first one, it was great to see the individual charachters move on in their stories and I enjoyed how the two new Dragoneers are introduced. Once again the story finishes at an interesting point, the five have now met and bonded yet where will fate lead them from here? Only the next book will tell!! I know my favorite charachter in this book has definately been Rikky and his peg leg, his deep connection with his dragon, his strength and determination in this book continues to increase, to the point of possible attracting the attention of an admirer, also his magical knowledge and ability has increased greatly with the aquisition of a dragon tear. I just wished the book was longer !!!
