Contingencies

The War was long. For sixty years, human fought human. For sixty years, the colonists of the moon watched in dismay as Earth edged ever closer to destruction. It almost happened, and they would have been alone. But somehow, incredibly, it ended without the end of everything. Humanity refused to be destroyed. Somehow, it survived, and once again prospered. And then, once more, humanity turned its eyes to the stars. Because the War was over... Or was it?
