Corn LIkker & Daffodils

Corn Likker & Daffodils explores the intersection of history and Eve Hoffman's life as a white, southern, Jewish woman. Seeing the KKK for the first time at seven years old, dreaming they would come and take her family away Years later the Klan bombs her synagogue -four hours after she becomes president of the Youth Group. She takes the reader to bottomland acres of corn sileage and fields of alfalfa carved into suburban streets. To a hillside clear cut and twenty foot roots of Georgia red dirt torn from the earth. To the Chattahoochee River flooding and Buck Creek a passageway for corn likker to avoid the revenuers. To the carousel at the state fair and a 4-H sewing award. To a climate of deniers and a granddaughter making medicine of grass and stones in a dented galvanized bucket. It will heal everything. Eve Hoffman brings the DNA of a revolutionary war lieutenant, a suffragette leader and recognition by her alma mater Smith College as a Remarkable Woman.

About the Author

Storyteller and poet Eve Hoffman grew up on a Georgia dairy farm. Still seeks dirt roads and Guernsey cream. Her lineage includes a Revolutionary War soldier, a mill owner "hung near to death" by Yankees, a suffragette leader and a grandfather who helped shape the south as chairman of the regional Federal Reserve Bank. She's been named a provocateur-her personal and political stories not tidily separated. Honored as a Remarkable Woman by her alma mater Smith College. Full-length Memory & Complicity published by Mercer University Press nominated for Georgia Author of the Year. Red Clay and SHE chapbooks and an art/narrative book A Celebration of Healing -twenty-one lives impacted by breast cancer. evehoffmanpoet.com
