If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of magic wielders — the Adept — was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it. That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you — a completely skewed sense of reality. Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth.
This 68,000 word urban fantasy is the first book of the Dowser Series by author Meghan Ciana Doidge.

I really enjoyed this. There's a ton of tweeny crap floating around right now and when I saw the vampire and werewolf thing I almost passed this over. I'm glad I didn't. This author did a great job of writing a very enjoyable fantasy without the Twighlight b.s. No flippant, self centered, female character pining over some hunky but, kind of a dick hole, abusive dude. You still grt some steamy stuff without being crude. I think the sister relationship could have used more depth to really enhance the story line but it was still a great free read. I would consider buying more from this author.

Just finished this freebie book and just bought the other two.  Fun, easy to read.  Well edited. This is a different approach to the paranormal world.

This book is very well written and avoids many of the typical paranormal cliches.  Also well-edited, it moves quickly through plot twists and turns.  The characters are well-developed and believable.  I want to read the rest of the series.

A decent story line and a likeable enough main character. Certainly a better book than a lot of the free books I've read, especially in this genre. And while the book ended with a "what happens next?" tone it's the right kind, the kind that doesn't leave you feeling ripped off, the kind that doesn't make you think all the author is trying do is get you to spend more money.

I don't normally write a review but I'm very impressed by Meghan Ciana Doidge.  Her world of vamps, werewolves, witches and others fit in with other great authors of urban magic, such as Kelley Armstrong,  Faith Hunter and Patricia Briggs. I highly recommend this  series. I've read the first two and just bought the last 2. I won't go into detail, I leave that for those who write better than I, but don't pass these books by. They are worth every penny plus some.

This book has it all - drama, humor, mystery, vampires, hot werewolves and CHOCOLATE! Jade is quirky, sarcastic, clutzy and powerful. This book made me laugh out loud at times and hold my breath through other parts. Well developed characters, completely realistic and easy to read. Great book!

This is the first book by Doidge that I have read, and it totally sucked me in. The characters are great, the world-building is detailed, and the narrative moves along at a good pace. Plus, the relationship between Desmond and Kett is great, and I can't wait to see what develops between Jade and Desmond. Highly recommended to fans of Devon Monk, Gail Carriger, and Annie Bellet. -- lyradora

Plot is ok but the only reason I finished this was because I wanted to find out what happened. I like paranormal books but these characters weren't very likable -- I've read about likable werewolves & vampires. At least this was free!

I can't wait to read the rest in the series, great books.

This series (and the related series) are my new favorite books. You'll fall in love with the characters and their distinct, relatable personalities. The story itself is full of twists and and you're always wondering what unpredictable turn is coming next! Excellent.
