Reviewed by Lit Amri for Readers' Favorite Eighteen-year-old Brie O’Mara moves out from her parents’ home to a two-bedroom apartment for the sake of being independent from her family, especially her nosy mother. Working two jobs to save for college, Brie places an ad for a roommate to share the rent. The secretive and rich Sarah McIntyre moves in, and Brie’s life would never be the same again. A first installment of its series, Dead Dreams is a YA psychological mystery thriller by Emma Right. Emma Right’s clear-cut prose is easy to read. I also like the comfortable short length of each chapter. It makes the pacing fairly swift from start to finish. Brie’s roommate is a mystery indeed and Right definitely knows how to build the plot with tension and suspense that would easily put any reader on edge. Every chapter ending cliffhanger makes me anxious for the next to begin. This is the main strength of Right’s gripping story. She manages her story line with deft assurance, winding up a skein of a mystery that’s rich with secrets, unpredictable twists, a surprising love affair, and murder. The characters, main and secondary, gain significant depth as the story proceeds. I find protagonist Brie’s inquisitive mind endearing, not forgetting her premonitory dreams. There is also a subtle religious tone, mainly from Brie’s mother and another character, Pastor Perry. All in all, Dead Dreams is every bit exciting. It is an intricately crafted YA mystery thriller that will also delight mature readers. The ending left me with so many questions, making the anticipation for Book 2 high and intriguing.

'Dead Dreams' is a fast paced and thrilling first novel in what promises to be an exciting YA mystery series. We meet the main character, Brie, at the beginning of the book after everything has gone terribly wrong. The main story is Brie recounting what led up to and eventually happened that got her in the predicament she was in. Brie was a great main character - strong, kind, full of hope and ambition, determined, loving. And yet, she had flaws along with her strengths, which made her all the more realistic to me and easier to identify with right from the start of the book. The plot of the novel is a gripping mix of psychological thriller and mystery with tons of twists and turns that kept my head spinning. I'm a huge fan of the genre and I always love to try and figure out what's really happening or who's behind it all before the characters do. This book left me confused, puzzled, and astonished by the end - which I consider a mark of exceptional mystery writing. The book was fast paced and flowed so smoothly that I flew through the pages. The author made everything in the book accessible to the reader, so it seemed like I was immersed in Brie's world right from the beginning. There's a lot of interesting story lines and tidbits throughout the story that added a unique edge to the book and sets it apart from most others in the genre. After reading this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down, I'm definitely going to be reading the next book in the series. Very highly recommended for fans of YA mystery and thrillers! Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This story is about 18 year old Brie O’Mara. She is trying to find her place in the world. Her dream is to go to New York and become an actress. In order to assert her independence and try to make her dreams come true, she moves into her own apartment and works 2 jobs. Her mother is the usual type of mother hen, always worrying and fussing over her. To help with the rent, she takes on a roommate, Sarah McIntyre. She’s comes from money and pays Brie upfront. However, she is full of secrets and apparently her brother and uncle are out to get her because of her money and upcoming inheritance.  Brie is very naïve. I understand that she wants to be independent, but I think she takes it too far. When the plot thickens, she not only goes against her morals, but also her gut feelings. To an 18 year Old’s eyes, I suppose her mother is over bearing and nosy. However, to me, she is not. She is just a mother who worries for her child that has just moved out. I would think that if she were so unbearable, she would be constantly coming over unannounced and always calling. However, this just isn’t the case. There are a few phone calls, and except her bringing Brie food once, I just didn’t see it. Sarah concocts a plan to get her out of her brother and uncle’s radar, but she is going to need Brie’s help. She knows just how to play Brie and all the right buttons to push. This is where all of Brie’s common sense seems to go out the window. There are so many red flags that she just chooses to ignore. I was frustrated with her so many times. With all that Brie has going for her, I’m a bit confused as to why she would go along with this plan. Money it seems can get to the best of us, as it did to Brie. As the plot thickens, the author definitely keeps us on our toes. There are several revelations in this story, and I found myself quickly reading the pages so I could find out what happens. However, there is a shocking event at the end, which I totally didn’t see coming. We have to read book 2 in order to find out what happens, and I will definitely be picking it up!

I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!!! I’ve read a lot of books my whole life, but to be honest, I didn’t love them all. It’s hard and rare to find a book that you really love from top to bottom, to say so. This is one of the books I love. I started reading at work, in my lunch break and I couldn’t stop. The time passed right by me, and I didn’t care, I wanted to read! Anyway… Emma Right managed to steal my heart and make me fall in love with her writing. The story starts with Brie O’Mara, a young woman who has learned what hard life means and how hard it’s to keep up with it. Brie decides to move out of her parents’ house, and she gets two part time jobs to keep up with the bills and everything, especially to have a chance at becoming an actress. She has a brother Keith, but for a time now, he has been out of the picture. Life it’s hard, but Brie it’s committed to succeed. After a while, she realizes that she needs a roommate to help around with everything, so she posts on Craiglist that she is looking for someone. She didn’t think hard enough about the consequences. Brie finds a roommate, kind of strange but she has a lot of money, her name is Sarah. She didn’t think to find out more about her, about her life and what is she hiding. Sarah it’s a strange person, you can see it from the start, but Brie doesn’t think a lot about it, even if she has the sense that something it’s wrong, she just wants a roommate so she can save up some money for her. From that point, everything it’s strange, you don’t know what to believe or what it’s going to happen. Dead Dreams it’s filled with surprising twists and turns keeping you on your tip toes, and making you second guess yourself. I loved the characters, but now I want to read more. Unfortunately for me, the book has a cliffhanger and it’s killing me. Can’t wait to read book two, to understand better the story, and especially Brie. She is on interesting story, same as her brother Keith and the crazy girl Sarah. So, go give this book a try, you won’t regret it! I highly recommend this book to anyone who adores thriller stories and mystery! You will have both in this book, and many other things.
