Discovering You (Whiskey Creek Series #10) by Brenda Novak

Can she ever trust another "bad boy"?

India Sommers once had the perfect family—until an ex-boyfriend broke in and shot her husband. Not only did that cost her the man she loved, a respected heart surgeon and the father of her child, but she also feels responsible. Charlie died because of the people she hung out with before she had the strength to change her life.

Just after moving to Whiskey Creek with her little girl, Cassia, to start over, she's learned that her ex-boyfriend's trial ended in a hung jury. He's getting out of jail; he could try to find her again. And that's not all that scares her. She's extremely attracted to her next-door neighbor, but Rod Amos is the handsome "bad boy" type that's given her so much trouble in the past. If she got involved with him, her in-laws would sue for custody of Cassia.

India has to keep her distance from Rod—but the more she gets to know him, the more difficult that becomes.

It was the same fascinating story Brenda Novak always seems to manage. It kept me riveted but it seemed rushed in the beginning. I didnt have time to get to know Rod before India was in bed with him. I would have liked to know what distinguished him from his brothers. Overall, another good installment in the Whiskey Creek series.

It was good to read about another of the Amos brothers. As an author wrote on the cover of Discovering You, "Brenda Novak doesn't just write fabulous stories, she writes keepers." A truer statement has not been written. This is a very beautiful story; emotional, suspenseful, romantic. I loved it! LA-TXN

Discovering You by Brenda Novak A Whiskey Creek contemporary romance. Small-town. Supportive family of brothers with some emotional handicaps but also some fearsome resilience and strength. A little heartbreaking and a love so rewarding. I love a "happily ever after" and this book took that extra feel good step. (No spoilers here but it's so nice.) Stands alone without having to read previous series books. Excerpt: "He’d never felt such tenderness. For a minute or two that concerned him. It suggested he could end up with a broken heart, after all—his first since his mother died so long ago. But he didn’t want to dwell on the possibility. Not when he had what he wanted right now." Title: DISCOVERING YOU Series: Whiskey Creek, Book 10 Author: Brenda Novak My thoughts: Brenda Novak’s characters and story line are so well developed that you are pulled in from page 1. Her words flow so easily and capture your attention quickly. Even though this is a series she gives enough detail that you aren’t lost. I fell in love with Brenda Novak’s Whiskey Creek series when I read the novella WHEN WE TOUCH and have loved each book that has come after. Each one became my favorite. This one however I must say is one of my top 3 favorites. Who can’t love a man who gives off a touch guy image but has a marshmallow heart. This book in the series focuses on Rod Amos. He is the 3rd oldest of the five Amos brothers. Just a brief summary of the Amos boys. There is Dylan, who is married to Cheyenne and he raised the other four after his father went to prison, Aaron, who is married to Presley, Grady and the Mac who is the youngest of the five. The other main character of DISCOVERING YOU is India Sommers. She’s a woman running from a nightmare in order to protect herself, her daughter and to start a new life. India’s husband was murdered in front of her by an ex-boyfriend high on dope. Sebastian got off with a hung jury and India wanted nothing but justice for her husband Charlie’s senseless death. India moved to Whiskey Creek right next door to the remaining three bachelor Amos brothers. India and Rod’s first meeting outside of the brief one they had when he helped move her pottery wheel was not one that would show that Rod had a good heart. She drove up on him after he was in a fight. There was an immediate attraction between the two but they both knew they couldn’t act on it. India because she was still in love with her dead husband and Rod because he wasn’t a fancy cardiologist or anything fancy like that. When India wouldn’t open up about her past Rod did his own investigation and when he found out what was really going on he became her knight in shining armor whether she wanted him to be or not. He was determined to help her even though she was a spitfire and determined to handle things on her own. They are able to find the truth with the help of a little boy by the name of Van and this is where you see the gentle heart that Rod has and you just want to reach through the pages hug him. India and Rod have a rocky romance but will they find true happiness? Will India allow Rod into her heart? Will she be allowed to raise Cassia or will her in-laws have other plans? You’ll have to read Discovering You to find out. You won’t be disappointed.

As with all other Brenda Novak's books, I absolutely loved seeing Rod and India fall in love. Can't wait for the same for the rest of the Amos brothers!

Sigh. I'm in love with a new Amos Boy. As wonderful as his older brother, Dylan is, I do believe Rod is my favorite. India is new to town and running from her past. Afraid that her husband's murderer will follow her, she keeps everyone at arms' length. Rod is sure that after the heartbreak his mother caused him, he cannot fall in ever-after love. But he takes one look at India and knows that she was meant for him. Fighting many battles - their attraction to each other, the need for her husband's murderer to be brought to justice, and the very real fear that her in-laws are going to fight her for custody of her little girl, these two win your heart. Along with Rod's brother, Mack, who is fighting his feelings for their step-sister, Natasha, who is nine years his junior, your are in for a treat! I love Brenda Novak's books, both her Whiskey Creek series, and her darker books. This one is NO exception!! LOVE IT from start to finish!!

What a novel! The setting was well developed and picturesque. I felt as if I were actually there. The plot was both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. I love how Novak was able to seam the two together to create such an unforgettable tale. I’ll admit, the main characters in this novel surprised me a little. I enjoyed them much more than I’d expect them to. Their quirkiness was precious. At the same time, the tragedy that India lived through completely shattered my heart. I loved that there was more than just chemistry between the main characters. Novak takes the time to develop true friendship and a real relationship between them as well. This is definitely a solid addition to Novak’s Whiskey Creek series. That said, this novel, as with so much of this series, can easily be read on its own so is also great Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

I adore the Amos brothers and this book had me hooked from the very first page. Rod Amos is one of the town "bad boys" but he is so much more than that. He is strong and sweet. India's life hasn't been great lately. Her husband was murdered by her ex and she moves to Whiskey Creek for a fresh start. Rod is her neighbor and they can't fight their attraction to each other. I loved Rod and India's story and it is a great addition to the Whiskey Creek series! Don't miss this one!

I’m going to state up front that I love this series. Unfortunately I don’t remember enough about the remaining (single) Amos brothers to have a preconceived impression of Rod. But here he’s just about perfect - maybe a little too perfect :) We know that the Amos family hasn’t had the easiest time but they’ve stuck together and created a good life for themselves. They’re a little rough but they are truly good men. Rod’s honest, hard-working and not willing to settle for anything less than honest with India. I don’t know that anyone can really imagine what India has gone through, and is still going thru, but it definitely complicates things for her. And meeting someone as sexy and good as Rod seems to be only adds to that. She knows that she shouldn’t get involved but he’s awfully hard to resist. I do think that the whole thing happens a little fast. Not only the time from their meeting to them getting together but how long it has been since India’s husband died. I know it’s the only way it works with the timeline of her troubles with her ex, but it just seems a little soon. I know their somewhat concerned with that as well butt over all as an issue I think it is a minor one. The rest of the story – from the deepening of their relationship to the troubles with her ex – is addictive and so well written that I had trouble putting it down. We also get a little look at the next story in the series and I have to say I’m a little concerned where it is going but I trust Novak to handle it with care, just like all of the others :) (Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review)

Finally, I made it back to Whiskey Creek and got to visit old friends and make new ones. Brenda's characters and stories are like going home to visit family and friends, sharing good and bad news, meeting the latest additions to the town and family. Having grown up in a small town and now living in a small town in those Sierra Nevada foothills, this book is really like going home. I love this series and all of her books.

Discovering You was another satisfying installment in the Whiskey Creek series. I quite enjoyed getting Rod Amos' story with a side of Mack Amos' story. (I can't wait for the rest of that one!) All of the Amos brothers have wild child reputations and Rod earned his early. But you know the old adage "don't judge a book by its cover"? Well, there's certainly more to Rod than his tattoos and troubled youth would have you believe. Underneath all that, and the walls he's built to protect himself from heartbreak, is a kind, loyal, hardworking man. And once he meets his new neighbor, India, the true Rod really begins to shine through. India's been through so much in the last year. She's working hard at rebuilding a life for her and her daughter and has come to Whiskey Creek for that fresh start. India's resilience is amazing and says a lot about her spirit. She's endured a lot of tragedy and loss and yet she's still such a bright spirit. Her immediate attraction to Rod concerns her because she's had some questionable judgement with men in her past but spending time with him - especially seeing him stand up for her in a difficult situation proves she's outgrown her had choices - Rod fits her perfectly. The suspense element created around India's husband's killer gave Discovering You an edge. With the exception of a few decisions India and Rod made which I felt were a little too far-fetched, Novak made it all so real. One thing that bothered me though was India's lack of contact with her daughter. I understood everything she was thinking and feeling with regards to her in-laws but I felt I would have fought them harder. The side story between Mack and Natasha also added depth to the story overall. I felt for them both and the position they were in - I'm not sure I agree with Mack's thinking but I admire his commitment to making sure Natasha's future is bright - keeping all her options open. Overall, Discovering You was a great read. I did miss my friends from Whiskey Creek since this story focused solely on the Amos' but I know I'll catch up with them soon. Getting to see Rod fall hard was wroth not spending time with them. I look forward to visiting Whiskey Creek again soon. **I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.**

Discovering You is another great addition to the Whiskey Creek series. Even though this book is part of a series (I highly recommend reading all of them!) it can be read as a standalone or out of order. It was great revisiting old friends in the sweet little town of Whiskey Creek. Having already met Rod Amos in some of the earlier novels, I couldn't wait for his story. Ms. Novak definitely did not disappoint. I loved watching Rod and India become friends and their relationship grow into so much more. There were definitely some heart breaking/tear jerker scenes throughout. All in all, it was a great story and I look forward to the next one. ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

I love going back to Whiskey Creek. I'm happy to get to know more about the Amos brothers in this book and look forward to knowing more. Rod may seem like a bad boy, but his truly a great guy! He is a protector and it made for a great story. India's past made it difficult for her to trust anyone and outward appearances made Rod an extremely high risk for her. I loved how she grew to trust herself in this story. I truly recommend any Brenda Novak story, I'm rarely disappointed!

Oh my gosh, best book yet!!! I couldn't wait for a book about another Amos brother. Rod didn't disappoint at all! Rod and India have an immediate connection and I found myself pulling for their relationship from the very beginning. Rod is known as the bad boy and a man that stands up for himself. Tattoos cover a lot of his body and that is what draws India in from the very start. India has just escaped a very abusive relationship and tells herself that she needs to stay away from this man that is all to similar to what she just got away from. The pull is to strong though and Rod makes India feel safe and happy again. Rod and India go through a lot together. I found myself nervous for what was going to happen next. The story is one that will keep you on the edge of your seat and you will not want to put it down. This is a great story and addition to the series!

Like making a trip back home to visit family. That's how I feel each time I read a Whiskey Creek story! I love Ms. Novak's writing and fell in love with characters ages ago! I love the Amos brothers so much and I think India was a perfect match for Rod! Opposites do attract and somehow work perfectly together! This story had the usual small town charm and a little edge of the seat suspense thrown in! I loved it!!!

Hard to Put Down! Rod Ames and India Sommers are immediately attracted to one another, but circumstances are making them tread carefully. India’s former boyfriend, Sebastian murdered India’s husband Charlie. He was just released from jail without charges and India no longer feels safe to bring her daughter to her new home in Whiskey Creek. Fearing that her in-laws are trying to keep her daughter permanently, India decides she needs to take some action to prove Sebastian is guilty of the murder. Once India had everything - a loving family and a happy life. That was before an ex-boyfriend murdered her husband and held her and her little girl hostage. After the trial, she had to get away from the gossips condemning her and the negative press. She moved to Whiskey River to start over, but living next door to the Amos family is a challenge. She meets Rod Amos, a sexy bad boy and attraction flairs. She's living in fear and he's a refuge. Will he be her rock? My heart broke for India. Her life has been destroyed. She wants her daughter with her but she's afraid to challenge her in-laws. She's a strong woman who won't give up her fight for justice. Rod is a good man who cares for India and wants to keep her safe from the killer obsessed with her. He understood what she was going through. His family had endured similar heartbreak. I was sad that India's friends and in-laws were only to happy to believe the worst of Her. Where was their compassion? Brenda Novak had me in tears. I couldn't put down Discovering You. It's a powerful and emotional story that kept me on the edge of my seat. This book is a keeper.

I Love, Love Love Whiskey Creek! Each time I read an installment of the Whiskey Creek series, I swear it is the best. That is, until Brenda Novak writes another one! She is a brilliant author who writes stories with very strong female characters, a little bit of suspense, and a reunion of past characters. Discovering You was an incredible installment that you just can't put down. Rod and India's story was very suspenseful, right from the beginning. I love Brenda's descriptions of the characters. I can just picture them in my head, which makes it easy to read. Rod and the entire Amos family would do anything they need to in order to help people out when they are in trouble. This time, it is their beautiful neighbor India who is in need. She doesn't want to get anyone else involved or hurt so she tries to do it on her own. Rod doesn't even ask, just shows up to help. Without giving anything away, he helps her in more ways than one. Do yourself a favor and read this Amazing book- You won't be sorry! I look forward to more wonderful installments from Brenda!

Whiskey Creek's Bad Boy with a Heart of Gold Once I started, I couldn't put it down. India Sommers made some bad choices in her younger years, especially when it came to the men in her life. That all changed when her ex committed a crime. She got her life on track, met and married a good man, and had a wonderful daughter. When her ex comes looking for help, good person she is doesn't hesitate. Unfortunately, her good intentions have a bad result. India moves to Whiskey Creek looking for a fresh start for herself and her daughter, only to realize that until her ex can be brought to justice, she isn't safe anywhere. When she meets her next door neighbor, Rodney Amos, the last thing she needs or wants is to get involved with another bad boy. She does need a friend. India is like no one Rodney has met before and hopes to be more than friends, but if not, he will do what he can to help her, there is no way he could walk away from someone that needs help. This is a wonderful story of two people who haven't had it easy, but are battling to make the right choices, despite having their past mistakes brought back up. The story isn't always pretty, neither character had an easy life and they weren't angels in response, but they have grown up and deserve a chance to put the past behind them and be the people they have become with the life they have worked for. I love that India, despite being terrified, takes control of her future and her happiness. I also love that Rod, despite his bad boy reputation, is such a good person, he won't let her go it alone, whether they have a future or not. He definitely has a heart of gold. This story will draw you in, and, if it is your first visit to Whiskey Creek, it probably won't be your last. Once you visit, you will want to go back and meet everyone else in town. **I received an Advanced Copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 10th book in the Whiskey Creek series by Brenda Novak. Right of the bat Brenda did a great job developing India and Rod's characters. She gave you enough of a backstory on India so that you could understand why India acted the way that she did but did not go too overboard where you got bored. She also gave you more backstory on Rod so that you could understand how he had turned out the way he did. In addition to the well developed characters Brenda did a great job of setting the scenes in the book. As the reader reads the story you are really able to picture yourself in the Amos household or on the porch where India is creating her master pieces. Something that I have always enjoyed about Brenda's books is how she incorporates suspense in romance books. For instance in one of her previous books it was the crazy ex girlfriend. In this book it was the crazy ex boyfriend. I think this suspense helps keep the audience interested in the book all the way through as you want to find out what is going to happen in addition to seeing the romance build between the two main characters. It a great mix of suspense and romance. I don't think that there was anything that I would have changed about the book. I am interested to see who the next character will be that will have a love interest. Can wait to read more books by Brenda Novak and I interested to see where she is going to take the series in the future.

Wow!!!! I was so excited to return to Whiskey Creek and visit with the Amos family and friends. This book focuses around India, new to Whiskey Creek after witnessing the murder of her husband, wanting to put the past behind her and find a safe place for her and her daughter. Bad boy, Rod Amos, not looking for a serious relationship but finds a mutual attraction with India. They both have pasts that the need to put behind them. Now they work together to help find the murderer of her husband that was released after a hung jury. This is fast paced book that hooks you in immediately. Loved the characters!! Plenty of suspense, that will keep you turning the pages. Loved the family dynamics from both India and Rod's family. This book is part of series but can be read completely as a stand alone. Highly recommend!!!!
