The second installment of the Texas Justice Series was even better than the first. Detective Juan Acosta is suspicious of his new neighbor as much as he’s drawn to her. Nicki is running scared and a police detective is the last person she’d confide in. I found myself sucked into this story from page one. Great characters with lots of mystery, action, and romance. You’ll be on the edge of your seat till the very end!

This is book 2 in the Texas Justice series but it can absolutely be read as a stand alone and still understand it. This one is about Juan Acosta and Vicki Holloway. Juan see's the daily reminder that he didn't save his wife and child in the scar on his face. He only lives for one thing now, revenge. Until his new neighbor moves in and he knows that something else is going on with her and her daughter. Vicki ran after she believes she saw the man she believes killed her sister, even knowing he is supposed to be dead. And with help she and her niece move to Texas with new identities and are now known as Nikki and Bell becomes her daughter. But when he finds out what they are running from, can he keep them safe and not let his own demons bring him down? Overall, this was a good book. I just had a hard time getting into as it started off very slow for me. It also seemed to be more suspense than romantic suspense which threw me off since I was expecting more of that in there. The characters themselves were great, the story line was good, it was just slow for me to get to where it needed to. I would still read it again though since it was good read, just not my favorite!

This is the second entry in the Texas Justice series and it was just as well written and engaging as the first. This is my favorite of the series so far. I thought that Juan and "Vicki" were amazing together. I'm glad that Juan's story was next since he seemingly had the most heartache of the three cold-case detectives, but I can't wait to see where the series takes us in the future. Great author, and great series!

This is the second book of Christie Craig's Texas Justice series about a cold case division. The story follows Juan, a detective whose pregnant wife was killed because of his undercover work, and Vicki, a woman in hiding with her niece. The writer uses both the good guys' and bad guys' points of view in the story, so there isn't a whole lot of suspense or mystery build-up. The niece is precocious but goes into "are you my new daddy" mode way early. I had a little trouble getting over the romantic/intimate conflict towards the end. I just felt like she wasn't given an opportunity to be hurt by something that clearly would have caused some pain. I enjoyed this book, but think I liked the first one better. I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy through NetGalley.

REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Kelly NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 I didn’t realize when I picked this book up that it was book two in the series. That being said Don’t Breathe A Word easily stands on its own. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything by not reading the first book. I do plan to go back and read book 1 Don’t Close Your Eyes. I enjoyed Don’t Breathe A Word, it started a little slow. It was interesting following Juan’s cold case along with Vicki’s case. I did find that it the story was a little predictable but the journey to the end was good. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a suspense with a dash of romance. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Forever (Grand Central Publishing) in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

This is the first book that I have read by this author but, it definitely won't be the last. From the beginning until the end this thriller pulled me in and kept me on the edge of my seat. This story has action, suspense and danger. Juan and Vicki were endearing characters with great chemistry. I can't wait to read what this talented author writes next.
