Overview

Dragon on Top by G. A. Aiken

Try a little dragon tenderness.

I am Ghleanna the Decimator. I am a warrior. A soldier. I know no fear. No pain. No mercy. I do, however, know acute embarrassment! How could I not after getting dumped by a bastard dragon in front of my own troops? So I tuck tail and return to my cave, drowning my sorrows in ale—as is my family’s way. But instead of leaving me to my misery, I’ve been summoned to the Dragon Queen’s court.

As if my life wasn’t pathetic enough, Her Majesty now has me escorting the highborn Bram the Merciful through dangerous territories—not exactly the best use of my military training. And just so he can negotiate with enemy dragons instead of battling them? Honestly, what has my world come to? Then again…Bram is quite easy on the eyes. And the perfect distraction for what ails me. Perhaps I’m looking at all this the wrong way. Maybe there is a place for a little “mercy” in my life…

Originally from Long Island, New York Times bestselling author G.A. Aiken has resigned herself to West Coast living, which involves healthy food, mostly sunny days, and lots of guys not wearing shirts when they really should be. I love the Dragon Kin series. G.A. Aiken is a powerful storyteller. This book fits perfectly and gives the loved characters more depth. As always, steamy scenes are great but I read her work for the dialogue and interplay of the family. I'm so happy that Ghleanna got her own story!!! Please don't ever stop this series. Most intelligent writing I've ever seen in a romance series.

I loved it. This book is a must read. I laughed from the beginning to end

Bram watches Gilhenna with hopes of catching Gilhenna’s eye. Bram has been in love with Gilhenna forever but doesn’t have the confidence to approach and go after her. Gilhenna had publically been embarrassed by her lover and then the queen told her she was to escort Bram the Merciful on a mission. Bram is a royal negotiator , map maker, and scholar. Bram is also a peacemaker. Gilhenna loves fighting battles, is easily distracted, and bores easily. Gilhenna loves to fight and it doesn’t matter with who. Bram must make sure everything goes smoothly between his queen and the rest of the dragons. So this means Bram has to travel and needs an escort. I liked the story a lot. It was a little confusing but I got through it. It also made me laugh at times. This is a short story but kept my interest. It was nice knowing a female that was the soldier and the male was the smarter more peaceful one. I liked the characters and the ins and outs of the story and I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Whenever I read one of her books people stop by to ask me what has me laughing so hard. Both on the G.A. Aiken books and the Shelly Laurenston series. Hope the next one comes soon as for some reason, the books in both series only last me a day or two at the most.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Dragon on Top is the second book I have read in the Dragon Kin series. It is what I have come to expect from G.A. Aiken...plenty action, playful banter, interesting characters, and steamy love scenes. What a winning combination! Glheanna is known as the Decimator for good reason. She is one fierce dragoness on the battlefront and off...an unrelenting warrior trained since a hatchling. Why then is Glheanna cowering in her cave, drowning her sorrows away? One insignificant dragon will not keep Glheanna down long, especially since Queen Rhiannon has a mission for her. Bram is a quiet dragon who enjoys reading and is well skilled at brokering alliances. He is the exact opposite of Glheanna who kills first and then asks questions. Bram and Glheanna will have to learn to work together to secure a truce for their queen. Will they be able to complete their task? Will they test the theory that opposites do attract? Glheanna loves fighting whether it be the enemy or her family. She knows no other way. Glheanna and her siblings enjoy taunting each other, but in the end they will always protect one another. Bram may be known as the Merciful, but even he has his limits. The good natured teasing between Glheanna, Bram and the other characters is what makes this a fun read. I would definitely recommend it.

I love this series, Dragon Sifters with a very fun slant to the series. Ghleanna was an especially fun heroine and the perfect mate for Bram. Fun!

Reviewed by Annie and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog Get ready for some crazy because G.A. Aiken is back with another installment to the Dragon Kin series. This is one of my favorite series just because of how fun it is. These dragons don’t follow any rules and aren’t regulated by human standards so they are a loony bunch for sure. Paired with Aiken’s epic worldbuilding and politics and you’ve got a fun story with a little bit of sexiness thrown in as well. Glheanna is no stranger to the mayhem that occurs in this book. As she goes around threatening everyone around her and headbutting those who annoy her, you know that this book will undoubtedly be a funny read. When Glheanna has been tasked with escorting the highborn Bram the Merciful, she is a little miffed about it all but she cannot deny that she is a tiny bit attracted to him. I loved this short story. Not only does it capture the light and fun tone of the rest of the series, but Aiken still manages to give her readers something special to look forward to as she takes us down underwater to see the Fins, another breed of dragons that live in the sea. I really loved this touch and thought it added such a great layer to the series. While I was reading, I was going to say that the only complaint I had was that there isn’t much romance until the end. There’s a lot of build-up but it isn’t until 65% that Aiken gives in and gives readers what they want. And while at first I was getting a little frustrated, I found that by the end, I was completely satisfied with how she handled the romance. For a novella, it’s very well done and makes me wish she wrote more of these shorter stories between the long waits of the full length books. If you haven’t read this series and are a fan of Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark, give this one a shot! You’ll fall in love with these crazy dragons!

What do you get when you take amazing, quirky, outrageously funny, annihilating dragon warriors and incredible fantasy world building? Dragon on Top, a marvelous new romantic comedy with a heavy dose of paranormal fantasy, that I absolutely devoured. Bram has watched Glhenna for years with the hope to one day catcher her eye. Well, the queen of the dragons is about to hand him his chance. Glhenna is forlorn, she was embarrassed by a lover in front of her troops, then called on by the queen to escort the diplomat Bram the Merciful on a diplomatic mission. She feels things just can’t get worse…until Bram starts wedeling his way into Glhenna’s heart. Its been a long time coming, well since this is a prequel, I guess I should say its fabulous finally getting the back story. These raucous characters will jump off the pages with humor, love and life. Yes, we are talking about dragon shifters here. It is hard to pin point one thing that makes this series so riveting, but for me, I credit Aiken’s amazing talent to bring life to the written word. A must read series for me, Dragon on Top was another fabulous addition to the Dragon Kin series. My only complaint, I'm greedy and wanted more! I received this ARC copy of Dragon on Top from Kensington Books - Zebra in exchange for a honest review.

Dragon on top is the re-release of the short story that was originally published in the anthology “Supernatural”. It features Ghleanna the Decimator and Bram the Merciful on a journey of fierce fighting, colorful characters, both dragon and human, and wonderfully funny dialogue that always cracks me up. This book is set before the original series and tells how Fearhgus’s Aunt and Uncle met each other and fell in love. I always like how G.A. Aiken breaks stereotypes with a strong female soldier, and a peace loving male. I am a huge fan of all her novels and look forward to reading the next in the series. Be cautioned… You should read these books in order (found at gaaiken.com) or you might be confused by the political intrigue and complex history found in the story. I was given a free copy for an honest review by netgalley.com

~ 4 Dragon On Top Stars ~ ✮ First published and read in the Supernatural anthology. ✮ I am glad the author has published Dragon On Top separately. It’s everything I love about the Dragon Kin series. The story is hilarious, the characters are as snarky as every and the dragons are oh so arrogant. This is one series I love to read over and over. I enjoy the world and characters G.A. Aiken has created. It’s not your typical friendly dragons story/world. It's unique and different. Dragon On Top is the best dragon, unrequited love, slash friends to lovers story I have read. Bram is just too adorable. He is a peach keeper and royal emissary. He works hard to keep the peace amongst the hot-headed dragons and he’s been in love with Ghleanna the Decameter for a very long time. Ghleanna is just utterly clueless about Bram’s feelings for her. She is so focused on her career in the army and also devastated about a very bad love affair that went, so wrong. These two were great. They have absolutely nothing in common, yet they fit perfectly. Bram is a nerd and Ghleanna is a tom-boy. I loved every minute of this story, because the author kept me laughing along with all the action and suspense. When these two finally got together and realized they where meant for each other the passion sparked and was well worth the wait. Then we have the epilogue that adds icing to the cake. Will I be buying this book, yes I will. I own each of G.A Akins Dragon Kin and look forward to more in this series. This is one series I thoroughly enjoy and recommend, especially if you enjoy humor, snarky dialogue, and arrogant dragons. *Disclaimer: ARC provided by Kensington Books via NetGalley with the sole purpose of an honest review. I adore Glheanna. She is a strong female succeeding in a male dominated field. As a warrior she is an unqualified success as a woman well she has suffered a recent slump. Maybe she was just looking for love in the wrong place. Bram the Merciful is a minor royal and a braniac. He has an important job in making treaties to keep the kingdom safe and it’s warriors underutilized. He has also had a crush on Glheanna for years. Now she is tasked with keeping him safe while he travels to make a treaty that will make the Dragon Queen the strongest monarch in centuries. Will traveling together bring them closer? Only time will tell. This story will make you laugh and get you thinking. I love this world and want more, more, and more. Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
