Overview

Dreamspinner (Nine Kingdoms Series #7) by Lynn Kurland

New York Times bestselling author Lynn Kurland’s enthralling Nine Kingdoms saga brings together a weaver’s apprentice and the son of a mage, both fighting to save the Nine Kingdoms from peril.

Aisling of Bruadair has lived a provincial life, heedless of the evil creeping over her land. That ordinary existence changes forever, though, when she is sent to the opposite end of the world to find a master swordsman. If she fails, her life—and her country's safety—will be forfeit. She just never expected that swordsman to be a wounded elven prince masquerading as a simple soldier.

Powerless and scarred from a long-ago conflict, Rùnach of Ceangail has spent years in obscurity, ignoing battles he can no longer fight.  And although he has been drawn back into the world, he fully intends to live an unremarkable life far away from events he knows he cannot change...

Until Rùnach meets Aisling and realizes that she is far more than what she seems, that their alliance has attracted unwelcome notice,  and that some battles must be fought.

While this is not one of my favorite nine kingdom novels it is definitely worth reading. It may take a bit to get involved in the story but once you do, you will find yourself anxiously awaiting the next section of the story!

I love Lynn Kurland books but was disappointed in this one. Story tended to drag and just when it finally seemed to pick up...over! No conclusion or reasonable ending. The other Nine Kingdom books were stories (with a beginning, middle and end) unto themselves that related to a larger story. Ultimately, I felt there was little point to the story except to setup future books.

As always, I enjoy Lynn Kurland's books of the Nine Kingdoms.  I love the characters and it is nice to see the recurring characters from the previous books.  I recommend reading them in order, so that you don't miss out on the story line.  The stories int the previous books are referred to often, as are the characters in those books.

Okay, I really liked this book. It had moments where I was skimming some of the details as it did tend to drag on a bit, but overall, I really liked it. I liked the fact that there seems to be more of a heroine in this series, rather than the last three books where the female character pathetically trailed after her "man" (although the first half does have quite a bit of this). However, the cliffhanger was a letdown. It made The Empire Strikes Back look like a solid conclusion in the life of Luke Skywalker. At least the book was good enough that I will wait the year for the next in the series, but it's always nice when a book in a series has SOME sort of conclusion.

I love each of the stories of the Nine Kingdoms. This one is just as good with similarities to the first one on many accounts. I do agree with others that it ends way to abruptly. I was watching the page count closely and thinking that it can not possibly be finished in the 20 pages I had left. I was right. It did not conclude in any way. It should have ended with (to be continued). It seems that this book was all about set-up. That is the reason I gave it only 4 stars. I like to have some kind of resolution in each book I read. The characters are well developed and I love seeing the old favorites. It kept me reading and wanting more.

Like all of Lynn Kurland's books Dreamspinner is fun and imaginative and impossible to put down. My only criticism is this - I read it in a couple of days and then have to wait a while for the next book.

I have waited anxiously for the book...as It continues off on the other nine kingdom series and the other characters in those books.  Lynn Kurland is one of my most favorite authors...and I liked this book and the story line. EXCEPT it left a HUGE cliffhanger. It seemed like it just ended abruptly...I literally started looking to see if i was missing numerous chapters. More effort should have been made to take the story line further to a more logical conclusion for the book. So, I'll be buying the next one--and hope it comes out sooner than a year from now!
