Reuben Nelms worked his entire life to pull away from a family legacy of horror and pain. Returning to his West Texas hometown for the first time in more than a decade, he still finds himself confronted by and fighting ghosts from his past. Treading alongside the remembered fear and regret surrounding him walks a temptation, Brenda Calloway, the woman he left behind.
Will their second chance love take root and grow in the dry deserts of West Texas? What does this mean for his brothers in the Rebel Wayfarers MC? Can Duck put aside the man he’s become, sloughing off the brotherhood and leaving that behind to become Reuben again, or can he pick up the pieces of his teenage love and still continue his life in Chicago as a member of the Rebel Wayfarers MC?
Reuben Nelms has worked hard all his life. First to escape the West Texas town where he grew up, then to negate the legacy of his family. One of his worst regrets was failing to protect a young woman from evil dealt by his blood brother. For years afterwards, he watched and protected her from the shadows, most comfortable in that faceless role.
Now known by his road name, Duck feels he’s finally found redemption in watching that woman blossom and grow, sheltered by her association with his brothers by choice, the Rebel Wayfarers motorcycle club. Things were settled, predictable, until a desperate call from home sets him scrambling and he is back front and center, home again in West Texas, finding himself confronted daily with reminders of his horrific family heritage.
Treading alongside the remembered fear and regret surrounding him walks a temptation, Brenda Calloway, the hometown woman he left behind. The efficient business manager of the cattle company he inherited from his father, his childhood friend is now a widow. More beautiful than ever, she’s a single parent with a secret, unaware of the power she still wields over Reuben’s heart.
Will their second chance love be able to take root and grow in the dry deserts of West Texas? Can Duck put aside the man he’s become, sloughing off the brotherhood and leaving that behind to become Reuben again, or will he be able to pick up the pieces of his teenage love and still continue his life in Chicago as a member of the Rebel Wayfarers MC?

*Please note this book is part of the Rebel Wayfarers MC book series, featuring characters from additional books in the series. If the books are read out of order, you’ll twig to spoilers for the other books, so going back to read the skipped titles won’t have the same angsty reveals. I strongly recommend you read them in order. Available now: Mica (book #1), Slate (book #2), Bear (book #3), Jase (book #4), Gunny (book #5), Mason (book #6), Hoss (book #7), Duck (book #8), Watcher (book #9), and Bones (book #10). Upcoming titles in the series include: Fury (book #11), and Cassie (book #12).
About the Author
Raised in the south, MariaLisa learned about the magic of books at an early age. Every summer, she would spend hours in the local library, devouring books of every genre. Self-described as a book-a-holic, she says "I've always loved to read, but then I discovered writing, and found I adored that, too. For reading...if nothing else is available, I've been known to read the back of the cereal box." Oatmeal is her comfort food. She hates gardening but loves flowers; not cut arrangements, but in the wild, outside. She has a deep and abiding respect for our military. Her dad was career Air Force and parades make her cry. Walking Dead is about the only TV she watches anymore, don't bother her on Walking Dead night, when she's been known to shout, "Go Team Darryl!" Yes, she's still sad about Firefly. She's a hockey fan, like ... a serious hockey fan. She's loyal to the Edmonton Oilers, but asks that we don't judge her about that. She also likes the Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators. The local ECHL team, the Fort Wayne Komets, are a fav of hers, and she has season tickets. She'll also generally try to hit the road games within a hundred-mile radius. She's a wanna-be hiker, working on a "bucket list" of hikes like Knobstone (completed in four days mid-April 2014 - whoooo!), sectioning parts of the AT, and now and then looking west towards PCT. She embraces her inner geek; MariaLisa has been working in the tech field for a couple decades. A sometime PC gamer, she still plays EverQuest after all these years. She says, "What can I say, I'm loyal (see above, I'm an Oilers fan LOL). Yes, I've heard of WoW, and have a coupla toons there, too." On music, she says, "I love music of nearly any genre -- jazz, country, rock, alt rock, metal, classical, bluegrass, rap, hip hop...you name it, I listen to it. I can often be seen dancing through the house in the early mornings. But I really, REALLY love live music. My favorite thing with music is seeing bands in small, dive bars [read: small, intimate venues]. If said bar [venue] has a good selection of premium tequila, then that's a plus!" Her short bio reads, "Plate-spinner / cat herder at work; totally geeked author; single mom in the thick of autism at home; hockey freak; wanna-be hiker; usta-be/on-again EQ gamer."

Great story, what I was able to read anyway. Extremely upset that the last handful of chapters has sections wiped out. Blank line after blank line. Including the epilouge. I hate paying for something I can't read. Hope some reads this and fixes the problem.
5 star I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I was kept interested. The story has laughs, pain, abuse, love, betrayal, kidnapping, secrets, healing, and heartbreak. If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Mica (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #1) Slate (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #2) Bear (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #3) Jase (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #4) Gunny (Rebel Wayfarers MC #5) Mason (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #6) Hoss (Rebel Wayfarers MC #7) Harddrive Holidays (Rebel Wayfarers MC, #7.5) This is Bee and Duck’s story. Years ago Bee and Duck had one night but he left her after that one night thinking she loved another man. Now she summoned him home. His home is surrounded by bad memories that he just wants to forget. But he loves Bee and wants to win her over. Can he win her over or was coming home a mistake? Can Bee handle all that comes with him and the club? Or will he have to choose Bee or the club? Bee is keeping secrets and wonders how angry Duck will be when they come out. Can she tell him and still keep him or will he walk away? When trouble comes to town will Duck be able to protect Bee? Or will he lose her from his life because of enemies of the club? I loved both of these characters. Duck is strong and so faithful. He is protective of Bee and her family. Bee even though she is keeping secrets is strong and protective about her son. As always you get a ton of the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.
