Had a chance to read Mykal's & Sarita's love story, as well as Drake's & Lacy's and Saint & Narice's. I love the three half-brothers. After reading 'The Edge of Midnight', had to Google 'blood diamonds', Pygmalion, Professor Higgins, Olmec, Spectrum magazine, Billy Strayhorn, tines, brioche, fukiya, Haile Selassie, bot fly, & Sault Ste. Marie. Learned a lot. Love Beverly Jenkins books!

Unlike the previous books I've read of hers, which are primarily historical fiction, this book deals with the issues of today's society - communities being taken over by gangs, drugs houses and the illegal smuggling of blood diamonds. Jenkins intertwines all of this with romance and wealth making it a book that you can't put down. The very opinioned and sassy Sarita, the main character, is a community activist very much interested in preserving the community in which she has lived all her life. She will give her last penny to save anyone in need. In fact she is willing to do without so that others may have. Because she doesn't want families in her neighborhood to be evicted because they are late in paying their rent, she is blackmailed into doing some illegal activity which throws her into a world of money, power and secrecy. Here's where she meets, Mykal Chambers, a man who is unlike any other man she has known. He's handsome, extremely wealthy, but is living another life he is unwilling to share with her. Her half brother, the mysterious Saint, who is also Mykal's half brother, is part of this other life but his main concern is protecting his sister. Can they really protect her with the help of her community? You just have to read it to find out. I loved this book. It made me feel like dreams really can come true. This is a must read.

The story was well written, bravo B.Jenkins! Myk and Sarita what can you say love finds you and it was proven in this book. The meaning of every detail in Myk's life was very interesting loved the dragons and the use of color, the history and symbolism of where he came from it brought life to Myk's character. Sarita is very simple, stree smart, with a definate edge I like her as the story goes on the layers are peeled and she can let Myk love her. I love Saint and Drake too, the three brothers are very different but have a sure bond or brotherhood. The NIA operation is cool it gives this story a sense of mystery, suspense and purpose for the common good. I will definately read Saint's and Drake's stories, they are still sexy and single I wonder if they will find love!
