Ellis by Kathi S. Barton

Dawn Whitfield is on the run, and if her uncle catches her this time she knows he won't just beat her...he'll kill her. Her best bet is to keep moving, and at all cost keep hidden.
Addie Parker finds the shackled young woman and sets her up in an old house hidden from everything. And that's where Dawn stays for eight lonely years.
Ellis Emerson is in a rut. He can't seem to do anything right. He thinks he's found his mate, but can't get close enough to her to be sure... And that's a huge distraction that's turned their construction job from a week ahead of schedule with a huge bonus, to barely three days ahead. And when Addie asks him to assemble a small crew to fix one of her houses, his foreman, Dan, is all for Ellis getting away for a while.
Ellis finds his skittish mate hiding away in Addie's home, but will she let her guard down long enough for him to convince her that their destiny is each other? Or will her Uncle Basil step in and finally take her prisoner again? Find out in the next installment of Emerson Wolves―Ellis.

Dawn is in hiding from an aunt and uncle that want her back. Why wouldn't they? They receive money for taking care of her and she is forced to do everything for them. She has been hiding for years, all alone, but that is about to change. Ellis Emerson is a wolf that has been dreaming of his mate, he just needs to find her. Addie Emerson just happens to own the home and land where Dawn has been staying. She "knows" things and when a storm damages the house Dawn is living in, she sends Ellis and a crew to fix it. Ellis knows Dawn is his mate when they meet, now he just needs to convince her they belong together. Ms. Barton weaves a wonderful story for Ellis and Dawn and I really enjoyed this one.

Ellis finally finds his mystery women only to find out that his sister in law had an idea who she was from the beginning. Sent to help a mysterious women in hiding for his sister in law,Ellis discovers she is his mate. Dawn has been hiding from her past for 8 years, she doesn't do crowds, stays away from people and doesn't trust Ellis when he says he will keep her safe. I really felt sorry for Dawn, she was treated badly and I really can't help but wonder why the state never came to check on her once she was placed with her uncle. I liked Ellis, he was quick to protect Dawn and did not judge her for her peculiarities. I enjoy watching the Emerson family rallying the troops and the female mates are really quite fun. There were several twists thrown into the storyline that I did not see coming and some things that left me with questions. As always, Cash is a great character adding humor and understanding to each new relationship. I like all the new characters that were introduced and found humor in some things I probably should not have. Fast paced, easy to follow and very entertaining

Ellis is the 4th book in the Emerson Wolves Series. Ellis is not himself and it is affecting his business. He thinks he has found his mate but he can't get close enough to her to find out. Dawn was found by Addison shackled and scared. She is hiding from her Uncle and Aunt and if they find her she knows he won't stop at just a beating. Addison hides her in a house and there she stays alone for 8 yrs. Will Ellis get close enough to Dawn to make her his mate? Will Dawn ever truly be happy? This is a definite must read and would recommend to everyone. Congrats Kathi S Barton on another great read.

With each brother that finds his mate, my heart breaks more and more for the trouble the females had to go through. Dawn is a true shifter. She's been abused by her aunt and uncle since she went to live with them as a child. After many attempts of running away, she finally succeeds when she's 21. She's scared of everybody, sure they are working for her uncle to return her to him. Ellis is going crazy. He dreams of the woman meant to be his mate, but has no face or name to go on. When his sister-in-law requests he go fix a house, he knows he has found his mate. Now he just has to show her what she means to him and make her trust him. In a lot of Kathi's books the villians of the story really do make me laugh. They tend to be a bit more on the stupid side LOL! However, I really did feel bad for this one at the end of the story. Never thought I'd say that!
