The New English Standard Version translation is founded on the belief that the words of the Bible are the very words of God. Setting itself apart from other translations by sacrificing neither accuracy nor readability, the ESV is an 'essentially literal' translation that seeks to duplicate the original texts while taking into account the differences between modern English and the original languages. Relying on the work of more than 50 Bible scholars, as well as the input of a 60-member, multi-denominational Advisory Council, the translation committee chaired by J.I. Packer realized its goals of word-for-word precision and accuracy, literary excellence and readability, and depth of meaning. Written in language beautiful enough to be used for public reading, clear enough for preaching and devotions, and trustworthy enough for academic study, the ESV sets a new standard - and is truly a Bible for all people.

I consider this audio Bible narrated by Marquis Laughlin to be the best one available. I've listened to most if not all of the available audio Bibles and in my opinion the narrator's voices are either too high pitched or their diction is no good or whatever. Marquis Laughlin is the best: good deep voice but not too deep, spot-on diction, and his narration speed is perfect. Only drawback? No Old Testament. Hmmmmmm...
Thanks to Macquis' reading of the New Testament in the ESV, I have become far more knowledgeable about the Bible in the past three years than in all the years prior. It is fantastic and brings the word of God alive in such a dramatic way that is easy to understand and enjoy. Why hasn't he done the whole Bible? I can't wait for that.
